- After 1 1/2 years of not having a car I finally bought one!
I decided to go with a 1992 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 SportLine to make a 190 Evo II Cosworth replica as I think it’s the coolest car I can build for my budget of $20,000.
The goal is to finish the car before May 4th so I can take it across Canada for Driven Show interviewing car enthusiasts & showcasing their builds along the way.

@@magnacars The 190 E Elektro was a limited series of fully electric variants of the Mercedes-Benz W201. Back in May 1990, Mercedes revealed a fully electric 190 E at the Hannover Fair.

Yes, I started paying it back when I moved to Canada they forgave the loan. Which was incredibly kind of them.

I'm rocking a well maintanied 190E 2.0 in Denmark, and its been my daily for 3 years now. Before that I had a 190E 2.6 for 2 years, and I still have it, and are about to swap the engine and drivetrain, together with the airride i bourght for the 2.6.

As a mercedes owner myself i can assure you this isnt gonna be your only one. i really want to get a w124 at some point. Ive owned 3 mercedes now, my first one being a 1977 mercedes 300d that i traded a 1985 toyota van for, second being a parts car and third ended up being a 82 300sd that i got running and driving for 700usd. unfortunately i wrecked my 300d so that's why i bought my 300sd. cant wait to see how this build turns out.

my dad back in the day had an evo 2, he told me it had so many problems and had to get it to shop a lot but it was a still a really cool and fun car

Had a Hass Motorsport 2.3 16v back in the 80s had the Evo type kit as part of the conversion, was featured in several magazines in England at the time of my ownership

Oh man. Now you have got me. A few years ago, i bought a w201 with the 2,3 machine. And i began to restore it. It was full of rust. And in the meantime my son was born. With the down syndrome. And yesterday i was nearly about to quit restoring this cool Mercedes. And then you told me not ro quit. And maybe its the best thing i can do. Because my son loves this old car. 😀 So i will keep on welding! 👍

Great buy! I also got one. The rust spot beneath the washer fluid tank is super common.
I’ve been told I will need to box the fenders anyways for the evo II kit to turn.

Youre gonna spend way more then you think, most of the work will be teadious, it will take much longer than you think....but it will be worth it. Youre gonna learn a ton. Love the project!

Never give up
The evo2 has larger front wheel wells to fit the bigger brakes, wheels, tyres + the lower suspension. If you are going to fix the rusty front wheel well you may as well make it bigger to accommodate things down the track.
That’s what I’ve been told. Not sure how to make it larger and mount the coolant reservoir

Buy EU headlights for them if you can. They are much better looking and will make the car shine again 🥰 amazing car brother! I own a w124 E200 1990. ATM never driven a w201 before but I'm going to pick one up soon as a second car 😊

Im from Stuttgart and not even here you can find a 190 that cheap anymore. A few years ago everybody wanted to get rid of their diesels because of new city regulations. Was the best time to buy back then

You sound a lot like me I saved for a year and spent all of it on my 2nd car an SLK32 AMG. Maintenance sucks but it's all worth it!

damn a 190e with airbag, electric windows, cruise control and aircon is pretty high spec, maybe the highest u could get. hope u keep all that in it because their arent that many left.
I plan on keeping the interior close to stock as it doesn’t fit in my budget, however we’ll see…
My friend have one authentic mercedes 190E EVO2 his is 247/501 and that car is crazy he rev up to 7-8k stock and his is old timer still with all original parts and he drive it daily and he have iconic racing wrap 😂 7:20

You have to cut the inner Fender anyway. You can‘t go that low with the Stock ones.

@@magnacars unfortunately not. I could send you some Pictures auf my Evo1 Replika inner fender that has been already changed. I could also Show you a 190E Evo 2 Replika on 17 Inch that is already lowered but Looks strange in the front. Because it uses the Stock inner fender. The Evo 2 wheel arch is slightly higher than the Stock one.

i have a 190e, they all rust in the same spots, yours probably needs all 4 jacking points and sils welded, rear subframe mounts welded and front inner arches welded. Thats a lot of work to get done in 6 months, not including everything else. good luck lol

Did he get the 8V or the 16V model? I think he got 8V. There might not be as much tuning potential compared tot the 16V model but if the bodykit makes him happy, I'm happy
