Hard to decide, but can't believe cost difference is more than 5k between both. If it's the same price, I would go for E-Class without any doubt. The 5 series tail light still feels like Camry.
I have looked at both the new e class and BMW- have owned a Mercedes 350. My belief is that the BMW is a better car- more reliable , better gas mileage and is overall better quality vehicle. The 3 years maintenance is also a plus. Bought the BMW!
I think the e class looks better even though the 5 has grown on me. I would take the 5 series though, I just don’t like how Mercedes has all touch buttons on the interior that can be really annoying to use. It just feels like you get more for your money with the BMW to me.
I thought MB offered an optional Hands Free “Driver Assistance Package” for 1950.00 extra?? Please explain any differences between the 5 and the E’s drivers Assist pkg..
I would go with the 5 series. BMW have been on a roll with both reliability and owner satisfaction. Consumer Reports have named BMW the best brand for the past two years. The same can not be said for MB. They are near the bottom for reliability keeping Land Rover and Jaguar company. Their owner satisfaction is also near the bottom. MB are not what they used to be, and sadly they don't seem to care.
yeah you're bang on... the bmw has the nicest interior, the build quality is way better than any mercedes can ever be and this is the only channel that says otherwise proving that they dont know what they're talking about ahahah . if you watch our european channels like carwow, autogefule and many other all say that bmw is the best in every category. the m cars beat any amg or rs from audi..the 7 series is the best luxury sedan.. the m5 cs destroys supercars on so on.. so bmw is the best
I have NOT driven either, but I'm more inclined towards the Benz simply because it looks much more styled and elegant "Professional" than the BMW... the size increase in the BMW is a big disadvantage, makes it look like an old buick!
How big was discount? In Germany bmw discount is enormous. You can order basically any BEV I model with 25-30% off. New 5 series BEV or hybrid discount is at least 20%. Bmw never gave that big discounts, but new 5 series, 7 series, XM are very hard to sale. People don't like the design in Europe. I just sat in 5 series and was disappointed by the cheap interior. Even the older A6 feels better built
I really like the previous 5 Series better than the new one. Currently own a 2021 M550i and plan on keeping it for a few more years. BMW took a step back on their new design.
Its difficult because honestly theyre both genuinely sweet cars. I personally like the interior of the bmw a bit more, especially the steering wheel. But the mercedes def has a wow factor to its radically defined character and uniqueness. I also really like the fact u get more tech and the vent seats, i live in arizona. If it was between the eqe and i5, ev variants, id go i5 but here i might actually go w the e class. The exterior just generally looks really nice and the interior feels like youre in something unique still
both have waaay to much screen realestate (the Merc "super screen" is just dumb) - wouldn't buy either - need some gauges and physical buttons for the most common features
After having seen both in person, I just have to wonder what was BMW thinking with their current styling direction? The 5er looks so pedestrian in contrast to its predecessor and the new E-Class. Not my cup of tea, for sure. The tall, slab-sided styling removed most of the character, the overhangs are uncharacteristic of a Bimmer. The MB is leaving nothing but size to the S-Class these days. They're not playing it safe anymore.
Well honestly I do see the 5 and 7 series in person, the 5 series made the 7 series look elegant, and the E class looks better than the S class, my mechanics have been very frustrated repairing the w223 because it’s catastrophic reliability, as most Mercedes owners want reliabilities like a Toyota owner, as a BMW guy I would take E class>5 series and 7 series>S class
I would pick the 5 series but the tack on screens no hard buttons and lil shifter is a deal breaker for me..e class is no better but overall more solid and modern depreciation hit on both is also a deal breaker with maintenance
Now we need the 540i vs E450 comparison. Also when you mentioned the seats which had the first impression of just being overall more comfortable? I realize this could be subjective but besides control & feature comparison I want to hear which you thought was more comfortable when you first sat in them.
bmw is the best in every category.. the interior is built way better than mercedes or any other car in the segment... the biggest car channels here in europe all say that bmw is the best in every category and i dont get how you say that mercedes is built better, that's just not true. mercedes squeks bmw doesnt... the driving experience is unmatched and the reliability is the best from bmw and NOT from mercedes. here in europe mercedes is having a lot of problems with their engines and its unreliable as hell. even audi is doing better considering it's all volkswagen
While the Mercedes does seem to have more tech, the tech is more useful and easier to use in the BMW in the real world in everyday use, in my personal opinion. I think it is really useful that you can use your phone or a key card to operate the BMW with the BMW app. Also no points should be given for fake exhaust openings 😂 But honestly they are both great cars and these two companies have been battling for years for the top spot. Each does its own thing better than the other. I like them both.
Imma pick the E-Class Benz and then the BMW. Imma send this video to my boo Shyam so he can get me one of these cars!!! And he best get it for me if he wants a taste of this hot chocolate fudge donk!!!!!
As a MB owner I can confidently say that while the newer MB's look really cool if you're standing back 5 or 7 feet, the fit-and-finish are very, very sub-par these days. Many MB dealership also sell BMW. So make sure you look at this before you buy. I can't speak to the new E-Class but other models (the outgoing E-Class) are really poor. The trim lines don't line up cleanly, the quality of the materials (they've gone to "metal-looking" plastic rather than SS/aluminum), the "leather" seats are atrocious, and many of the little things (clips, clamps, fittings, covers, etc.) have gone to plastic to save money. And yet, the A, B, and C annual services that you *have to* do with an authorized MB dealer have increased 20% - 40% in price. I spent ~$600 for a new valve stem last year...not new tire and wheel, not a set of valve stems...only one valve stem. Yikes!!
Merc all day. Mostly because the interior and luxury is far superior. Exterior styling is also better. I used to love the design of BMWs but they lost me about 10 years ago. Finally I don’t agree BMW has sportier handling dynamics. They did once, but I think that’s an old reputation thing nowadays.
As a former bmw/Audi owner, i wouldn’t buy either. Would take a Honda every time. Yes I’ve been traumatized! $1,500 every 3-6 months when something went wrong with the bmw, very expensive preventative maintenance for the Audi never had anything happen with that one. Wiped my hands clean with the vehicles and went with Honda. On my 5th Honda, trade them in every 1-2 years. Only paid registration 2-3 times out of 10 cars I’ve owned in the last 8-9 years, maybe less than.
I looked at both vehicles and at 60 years old, I want a car with refinement, power, and not a computer lab. These 2024 vehicles have lost the plot and are playing on tech over quality of materials. I will be purchasing a 2022-2023 CPO BMW 540i or 550i. I am a technical professional but do not want my technology to be overwhelming and ever-present in my vehicle.
Great video but I feel that they didn't give Bmw the correct acknowledgment in some areas, For example Bmw has various ways to control the infotainment, with buttons and nobs which makes it much easier to interact with, especially while driving. The gesture controls on Bmw is another way to control the infotainment. Cars are getting harder to deal with when everything is on a screen and they barely have buttons. so if we are going to give points for extra screens (Merc) and such we should give points to ease of use of these systems and other tech. Now to my opinion: I love E-class' Interior but the 5's exterior. Also Mercedes digital display is much more configurable than Bmw's. Its a Hard choice but just depends on what you like and your personal use. If you care about comfort over drivability get the E-class if you wanna have fun and look/feel good doing so, get BMW.
And my Mercedes is E 180 with 1.5 litre engine and 170 hp. It is unique for Turkish market because of tax issues. And guess what is the price I paid. 170.000$ can you believe that
That is crazy. I just paid $89,500 for a new E450 4Matic. It’s a beautiful car with the maple wood/aluminum strips dash and console and macchiato beige/black leather.
Light Mercedes and BMW but for my choice I'm going to have to go for a BMW because all the sporty driving Dynamics Mercedes is nice but BMW is beautiful and Mercedes SUV. Perhaps the GLS that need to be redesigned them BMW X7 is already redesigned and the Mercedes GLS just need to be redesigned. So anyway, for the sedan part I'm going to have to go for BMW because all the luxury and sporty Dynamics
It is a shame the Mercedes lacks reliability. It reminds me of of my friend calling me to pick her up after she came out of a mall to her one month old E Series and the car failed to start. Who needs this kind of grief?
I'd "rather" the Mercedes out of these two but I think the head & taillights are TERRIBLE compared to the W212 which I owned. I'll wait until there's an 8 cylinder version! 🥴

A mid size sedan that isn't even top of the range.
Opt out of the hyperscreen and 4D Burmester and its cheaper than BMW.
Mercedes E class👍
