This is a follow-up review to our first video about it with some additional thoughts and information. I'll tell you that the eco smart customer service is great I had a problem with one after several years and they sent me the parts I needed and a couple other things that were replaceable just in case. I ended up buying another one for my off grid place
This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

Do you have suggestions on what to use to power hot water for shower? I’m looking at a 4-8 gal mini hot water tank from Bosch. This unit may not work well for shower?

As a professional plumber, it's illegal for me to set a residential or public use water heater to more than 110°F. 110 is perfectly fine for anything short of commercial cleaning. 140°F is max temperature for a commercial dishwasher or mop basin. Plus you will be tempering with cold water which brings up your gpm from the faucet. I can't take a shower at 110°F. That would kill some people.
I’m surprised you don’t set it to 120F because of the risk of that pathogen that can grow. Does it not survive at 110F?

I've had over 4 Ecosmarts and around the 11th to the 14th month they have failed. Don't believe the directions supplied. You can't just wash out the filter every year. You need a tankless water heater descaler system and a pump to clean it with. If you have hard water you must clean it two to three times per year. I also have a whole house water filter with a scale inhibitor.
ya just make a bypass so you can pump vinegar thru in for an hour 1 or 2 times a year

@@lionintu yup all kinds,, just install a 2 inlet valve at the inlet of the heater and 1 on the outlet,,, use a bucket with vinegar and a pump on the inlet and a hose on the outlet to go back into the bucket and let it run for a hour or so and all clean ,, then turn the valves back on to normal water flow

I'm wondering if you leave a couple of aquarium pads under the tank to warm up the water if that would help

Yesterday my water didn't go up to 70'. I can't shower in my rv. Water is like warm. Its so frustrating. Any ideas what's going on?

The way you tested the water heating up was extremely inaccurate. The hot water going into the cup needs to warm all the colder water currently in the cup. A more accurate measurement would have been to just put the end of the thermometer into the water stream or use a very small cup, like a shot glass.
Hi, is it 110v? And do you think it would be good enough for an rv? 2 sink 1 shower. I never run both faucets at once and the shower once a day. Just your opinion if you have second. Thanks for your time.
I live in a RV in Texas. Gets pretty hot during the Summer and sometimes we have some good freezes during the winter. Right now I have a 6 gallon HWH. It is electric and gas. The only time I use hot water is to take a shower. I have a dishwasher that has its own heating element. Would an electric on demand work good for me? And how long can you shower with one?

I rent a town house from a friend under the agreement that he is not fixing anything. Needs everything. Hot water heater went out in Mar '20 and it's in the attic. Many many complications in changing it and the plumbing delivered hot water like 2 minutes later to the master shower. So I was reluctant to replace it especially in the summer the attic never cooled in Southern Louisiana. I just bought a couple ecosmart but my second one an ebay order makes as a 110v was not, it was a 240v. I finally got a cheap 110v for the shower and rigged up the shower and finally after hundreds of cold showers I'm finally having some warm showers. I love the idea of these tankless point of use heaters. I'm building a shipping container home, literally, have the container. Land, well, etc and im looking forward to the ecosmarts ! That cheap 110v and a fine stream shower head work great for a nice warm shower.

Hi, I too am thinking of using one for shower. Might I ask what amperage was the 110v one? Also, is the temperature warm but bordering cold shower temp, or is it decently warm (like maybe decent for a senior)?
@@lanceuppercut6168 it's pretty high amps. If you use it too many minutes it will trip a circuit. But I've got 200 plus uses out of it and it keeps on working. It sucks some 110 energy when plugged in. It has a water flow switch too. You have to have a good spray shower head and flow limited water and it gets pretty hot. You add more water flow and it cools down a bit.
Can that unit be used infant of a washer? I'm hoping to put our washer and dryer in a place I don't have any hot water. Thanks
Impressive a tankless electric water heater that small can get water so hot so fast.
Our thoughts exactly. May not produce huge amounts of hot water, but for what we need it works great.
Slow it down a touch more. Add a tea bag and bang. No tea kettle needed and a boiling hot cup of tea. 😀 Very impressive how well and quick it heats that water. Think how long it would take to heat that quantity of water on the stove top.

We are looking at the thought of one in the greenhouse to rinse greens and need warm water which will be sourced from our well.

That water hit 140 sooner than you made it out to be. You had the thermometer in a cup of water that was basically recycling an average temp. You should have just put the thermometer directly under the faucet for a more accurate temp reading.

Wow that max flow is unbelievably weak. Definitely wouldn’t work for anything other than a bathroom sink
Thanks for the review. I live in Northern New England so inlet temp is going to be very different eight months of the year from where you are. Your video stated that 140 degrees was max but then you showed it getting up to 166 degrees. That seems like a big, and very quick, fluctuation is temps. I'm think about having to keep adjusting water flow in the shower so as to not get burned. I'm glad it worked out for you but I think I'll go with a tank. Thanks again.

I'm sold on this idea to supplement our master bath sinks - as we need to run our sink faucets for a LONG time before our gas fired, tankless system on the opposite side of our house reaches the faucets. This EcoSmart 8 (hopefully) will provide sufficient instant hot water and then turn off when our hot water reaches the facet from the main hot water heater Kevin - Greensboro, NC
Thanks! I do wonder about this, especially once your other water heater kicks in and starts sending hot water. I wonder if the Ecosmart would kick off the water was already up to temperature. You might want to call them and ask. That said, I think it's a great little water heater.

I thought it was kinda sus tbh, BUT when I noticed the steam coming up from the sink I knew it was legit. How he managed to hold it for that long is beyond me 😂
140 is too hot. Period. 120 is normal. And if you were running it full blast it would still maintain 120.
140 is the max an Eco will go. You will quickly cook the single element running it that hot. If it needs to be that hot to get where its going you under sized. Should have moved up to an Eco 18 that uses 2 elements and uses Two 240 breakers that's 4 hots to that eco. Yours is only one 240 breaker .
I'm thinking about buying one of these to run the water to my whole house will that work? I have two toilet to sink and a shower
Not sure if there's a spot where you back up with the camera and do a complete finished wide views and walk around but I couldn't find anything. Would like to see the whole thing since completing if possible. Thanks

It can depending on how piping is oriented
This is the smallest one on the market intended for a small half bath like this. You'd want the $300-$350 model range where they can heat enough for a shower

Here it is 2 years later!!! I had to put my Vintage Tiny Travel Trailer (VT3) on hold to finish a huge Class A RV... Now I"m ready to put the tankless water heater in VT3

Given that it heats continuously, I guess that depends on how long you can stand in a shower. God bless!

Which one would you suggest for home? sink, dishwasher, shower? (Electric or propane are my options and what wattage? same brand name?
Can this system be used for temporarily heating a homes water for just showers? In process of replacing my homes oil furnace and we have water just not hot water till we have the boiler replaced. Any and all input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

This type of heater uses a tremendous amount of electricity while running. Make sure your electrical system can handle running both at the same time.
You are measuring outflow temp, you are measuring the mixed temp in the glass
How did that unit get the water up to 166°? The setting won't go that high.
These come for full house use like bathrooms kitchens and laundry rooms.

Hope it works as well for you. Makes me nervous that so many folks say they have had issues, but ours is still going strong.

Water runs hot Indefinitely.
If you increase the flow rate the water temperature decreases.
It's hard to shower with a low flow rate.

Would a 20 gallon storage tank help? Not heated of course and only coming up to room temp.
That's a really interesting idea. Honestly, we've not had issues with it producing hot water, more just a matter of volume of hot water. So that would be possible solution.
St. Isidore's Farm or even two in tandem. Or just a small electric tank before the tankless one.

I have two titan tankless units in parallel and it not only helps not get the wiring hot it compensates for cold inlet temps....also you are not out of hot water if one of them fails.
I have had an eco stupid 27 for more than three years, bought from the jerks at Amazon who are a band of common cheats (another long story). For 3 years and 3 hot flushes with distilled vinegar to remove collected metal salts, it worked fine. But the last flush took us longer to get the scale out. Every plumber's checklist we followed to the letter, including getting all the air out of the pipes before turning the electricity back on. Then I noticed water hammering going on even when the unit had no water running through it. It would sit there and go BANG! BANG! BANG! even though it was not in use. We could also feel the heat emanating from the idle Eco Stupid. My installer and plumber are both dead, one from covid and the other from old age. I am an aircraft mechanic so I turned off the unit at the breaker box, hoping I was qualified to do at least that. I took off the cover and the second, or middle, of 3 heating units is extremely darkened and heat-discolored. The third, or last, copper heating unit is also discolored but not as much as the second unit. I am going to put photos of this Rube Goldberg mess on my blog, so as soon as I do, I'll post here again with a link. And yes, our plumber also had trouble getting the screw-on connectors to seal at the Eco Stupid unit because he said the Eco Stupid fittings were apparently designed for goofy compression fittings. Not bad for about 3 years of warm, not hot, 110 deg. water: $500+ for the unit plus another $1500 for the installation and plumbing parts, and then also a lot of worry because of Eco Stupidity imported from commie China. Caveat emptor!
Here’s a great suggestion, reuse an old water heater just to keep water at room temperature inside your house and then use this Instant water device
That is a very good idea, but you would have to remove all the water tank's insulation or your water would be underground temp for a long time.
