The Believers Aint gonna like this one... sorry... I'm here to share science.
I respect everybody and anyone in their beliefs. if you can prove wrong, open for all science based theories! ✌🏼
Ghosts, spirits, and souls are arguably outside the province of established science. So are dark matter, cosmic inflation, baryogenesis, dark energy, and quantum gravity. Science suspects these things exist, based on observations more reproducible than the things mentioned above. But they remain far from explained.
While some people speak of seeing ghosts, others speak of being unable to see them. To suppose they must interact with electromagnetism in the same way as other forms of matter is at best a straw-man argument.
interesting
Please turn the music down. It over runs your video and it makes it difficult to understand Brian.
*_MUSIC IS TOO LOUD_*
“ consciousness is not the little voice in your head, it’s the thing that recognizes the voice”
majority of people dont have a voice in the head. Guess they're fucked :D
that’s still the voice. you can take a brain scan. being hungry is a neurological signal, and being aware of the voice telling you that you’re hungry is also (proven through examination) an electrical circuit signal in the brain. people who believe in magic are either 1) indoctrinated into it by upbringing/culture or 2) they WANT it to be some magic ball of light that’s the “true” us, so they just deny basic neuroscience because it makes them feel better.

The so-called music made it very difficult to hear and the jumpiness made it hard to follow. Or is that the point so we comment and watch it twice 🤔
He is so elegant, and he threads his argument so beautifully. No stops, no uh, eh, um. What a marvelous and intelligent man.
What's elegant is how he dodges the hard question, the question that none of those scientists have been able to touch on.
@@ericcricket4877don’t disrespect Brian Cox you egotistic degenerate 😂
@@ericcricket4877he doesn't dodge a question, the title of the short is just unrelated to what he is talking about. And plenty of scientists have spoken about consciousness extensively... I don't understand how you can say no scientist has been able to touch on consciousness unless you're just ignoring it intentionally
@@poo934 Conscious correlates etc. aren't about solving the hard problem, but the easy ones.
yeah there's no stops because the video is edited 😂 but i agree with you
As in all science ,many times we think we know right up until the moment we are proven wrong.
Very true, but seldom it’s the random internet guru correcting mainstream science, but instead another scientist.
And yet its the prerogative of science to show that magic isn't real and doesn't explain anything.
We continue to find physical (matter, energy, forces, fields, etc.) explanations for everything we research. Will that method of finding explanations ever fail to be fruitful? Will physicalism-materialism-science end up short of how everything works? You might say, "It doesn't explain consciousness yet," or maybe the origin of life or pre/peri-Big Bang or maybe other interesting things. Will it explain these things in the near future? I guess we must wait a bit longer and see what happens. I'd give scientific advancement another couple of centuries. It's only been a few centuries that we've barely begun to understand the theory and apply the techniques of modern (electromagnetism, weak & strong force, gravity, quantum mechanics, computers, and more) science. It has barely matured. Give it another couple hundred years, and I bet its explanatory power will be even more absurd than ever. What's more, only in the past few years have we built powerful, narrow AI that can fold vast amounts of complicated proteins, explore many possible models of our universe in a short time, explore vastly complicated fluid dynamics, explore vastly complicated math structures, and so on. Give us more time to build these AI, and continue exploring the profound structure of our universe. Besides, wouldn't Spinoza think we're studying the mind & physiology of god when we diligently study the universe?
I guess more directly to your comment: yes, science evolves and continues to refine itself and come closer to explaining full reality. When will it end? What are the limits to this method? How will we know when it's finished? Do we want to continue the process until everything is explained?
Faith is by definition the opposite of the scientific method.
Even if we were somehow able to measure every particle and every bit of energy at every point in time across the entire universe, and none of it showed any evidence of the existence of a soul or God…. If you have true faith, you will still believe in them anyways.
Religion is fundamentally incompatible with science. One is faith based while the other is based on available observations and experimentation.
Which is not by a way an insult to religion, just pointing out if if you are a true believer and have faith, then the scientific method and scientific discovery should have absolutely no bearing on your beliefs. It shouldn’t matter whether or not we can prove anything if you truly believe.
Just because you dont currently have the ability to measure something doesn't mean that thing can't be measured nor does it mean it doesnt exist.
Yeah, for a person to claim he doesn't believe there's anything else going on in his head, he'd have to be soulless. You could even say he was quite close-minded
hi
@@rockymarse-zt1th Then you missed the joke
It means that we can treat it as if it doesn't exist.
Why though
C.S. Lewis had a clever thought experiment that I heard and seemed to make sense of something complex.
Imagine we are living in 2D on a plane surface, and a 3D sphere was to pass through our 2D plane. To our perception, when the sphere first touches the plane it will only look like a dot to us at first, and getting bigger and bigger until it gets to the equator of the sphere.
Then when the sphere passes through the plane to the other side it will appear to be getting smaller until it turns back into a dot and it's gone.
We don't see the sphere above or below us because we are 2D we can only see the 3D sphere as a 2D circle as it passes through our 2D space.
So what C.S. Lewis was saying is that we can't really see or explain a spiritual world but sometimes get glimpses of the supernatural and are naturally drawn to an existence of God.
That's a great thought experiment for envisioning a 4th spatial dimension from our three-dimensional perspective. It, however, lends absolutely no credibility to a soul/spiritual-world/god. In C.S. Lewis' experiment, the 2D creatures are not 3D creatures living in a 2D world, they are still 2D themselves. They have no mass/information/energy in the third dimension even though other creatures and objects might. This would be something similar to the Mona Lisa coming to life and seeing you, a higher dimensional being, staring at her. You are not her creator, you are not her god, you are not even a superior being, you just exist with an extra spatial dimension to your name. Good for you.
And what is his evidence for that claim?
@@DrinkWater713 it's not a claim it's a thought experiment. That's a nonsensical question. It's not claiming an existence of God it's an experiment on how to think outside of 3D and into 4D and what it might look like from our perspective.
@@rjvalentini "get glimpses of the supernatural and are naturally drawn to an existence of God." It's not a claim. It's actually TWO claims. The number of evidence is still ZERO though.
@@DrinkWater713 still I don't see where I'm making a claim. It's a thought experiment for the supernatural. How can a 2D figure prove that a sphere exists? See what I'm saying? And more people believe in ghost than God and I didn't make a claim that either exists. People in general are drawn to the supernatural and spiritual things that doesn't mean they exist but it's strange that humans search for its existence.
I absolutely cannot understand why so many scientists willfully ignore the mountains of evidence that we have for an existence of consciousness after the death of the physical body.

The problem is, that he just applies all laws of material world to the spiritual world, which may not work (like the laws of classical physics do not work in quantum world).
It's hard to listen what's being said and not focusing on music.
Consciousness doesn't have to be a "5th force". The Orchestrated Objective Reduction (Orch OR) model of Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff posits that proto-consciousness is quantum collapse that the brain orchestrates into the kind of everyday consciousness that we experience. Hameroff speculates that this quantum information (or soul if you like) may persist in spacetime geometry after the death of the brain/body.
Dark Energy? The Universe was “thought” by “something” akin to a mind perhaps?
Maybe, Consciousness is unfolding itself every moment in time which can be translated as movement. "Conscious" possibly is a stream shared by all humans, The source is "thought". The medium to store it is memory. Light in it's full spectrum is the result of thought and memory, which we call energy. the ultra violet part which we perceive forms reality. Maybe we are a pattern in someone's brain?
Consciousness is a quality. How people are still so confused over this concept is beyond me
@@HakaiKaiencan you please explain ,and describe/ define what or who is the 'Me' or 'I' in your statement?
@@ramakrishnanpanchapakesan299 There are 4 processes in the brain that are intertwined but still different processes that create the self. And those are consciousness, sentience, awareness, and memory. Combine those with the unique subjective perspective as a single unit in time and space and you get "I".
my definition of consciousness- - the universe started with something blooming into existence- this something traveled in time and space and morphed into slightly different other things over time, due to entropy, each thing then residing in its own unique space and time. Now,we observe these things as the matter of the entire universe - but in essence the whole of creation and matter is just that one single thing that is blooming - albeit in different locales of time and space. Hence, our so called consciousness is a field with intricate connections between all matter in space and through time and also all matter and time that is quantum entangled
You nailed it, bravo!
Consciousness is a quality of the brain and it encompases various levels of mental activity. How people still hallucinate nonsense about this concept is beyond me

1. Erwin Schrödinger
Schrödinger was an atheist and a pioneering physicist known for his work in quantum mechanics. He believed in a single, unified consciousness rather than individual, separate minds. His ideas suggest that the division between individuals is an illusion.
Key Belief: Schrödinger's view of a unified consciousness doesn't rely on the existence of God, but rather on a deep understanding of how consciousness could be a fundamental aspect of reality.
Quote: "Consciousness is a singular of which the plural is unknown; there is only one thing, and that is consciousness."
He could have quit with "There is nothing going on in my head"

So what about Consciousness (measurement / Observation) collapsing the Wave function in Quantum physics? There could be nothing more but physical things but till all is clear...it's fun to think that there might be something more to it.
I don't think we are supposed to be able to have all of the answers. I feel like some things just can't be explained through science.
Exactly. We don’t know how the universe was created so how do we expect to know ab the creator 😂

That’s the thing. Consciousness can’t be explained through science for example, or why there’s something instead of nothing
Since we hallucinate the world, the idea that the pattern of someone's disembodied essence can be perceived in another, unrecognized way than by photon interpretation (standard vision) is still a possibility. A goofy possibility, but, still one.

@@eerohughes agreed
"Consciousness is a dynamic and self-organizing neurological field, comprising two primary components: the unconscious (subconscious) active field and the conscious active field. The unconscious field operates below awareness, managing automatic processes and pre-conscious activities, while the conscious field is aware of itself, selectively focusing on certain inputs, and engaging in deliberate thought and action. Both fields interact to continuously restructure and grow the subconscious mind, integrating new information and experiences, ultimately shaping the individual's perception, behavior, and self-awareness."
Michio Kaku and Leonard suskind said that the units of consciousness can not be measured
Exactly!! Brian Cox is pretending to be philosophically illiterate and is prevaricating as his arguments are decades behind current developments regarding the HARD PROBLEM OF CONSCIOUSNESS!!
Buddha figured it out. The way Buddhism understands consciousness and all of it's aspects and layers, the modern science has a LONG way to recognize and comprehend all of that.

Just because we don't see something now doesn't mean we can be sure that nothing of that sort exists. There are some new observations that suggests it's possible consciousness happens at a quantum level inside the brain. We only know brain and consciousness are related. That doesn't necessarily mean the brain creates it. The brain could be just channelling or extracting consciousness and consciousness is a fundamental thing that's everywhere. According to the brilliant linguist and cognitive scientist Noam Chomsky…
“There are only two ways of looking at eliminative materialism (the idea that all things reduce to solid substance). One is that it is total gibberish until someone tells us what matter is. Until someone tells us what eliminative materialism is there can’t be such a thing as eliminative materialism and no one can tell us what matter is”. (Noam Chomsky).
Furthermore, the irony and the absurdity is that no one has ever empirically observed “matter” outside and independent of MIND and CONSCIOUSNESS, for we are forever locked in the fundamental primitive, that is we are forever locked in MIND and CONSCIOUSNESS. That is the self/soul. All we can observe are the contents of perception, which are inherently mental events. Even the output of measurement instruments is only accessible to us insofar as it is mentally and consciously perceived!!
