Hip Hop in NY just suffered a massive heart attack with this news...it wasn't just a record store, it was the epicenter of underground rap...i've met many artists at Fat Beats and seen several free live performances...they'll never be another store like this ever again...R.I.P.

Flew in from the U.K twice - once in 2003 and again in 2007 - DJ Eclipse behind the till. Picked up Style Wars DVD, Just Ice and BDP classics and that camo record bag. Sad to hear it shut down. NY really needs places like that. 🎧
Ventured to the legendary FatBeats during the summer of '99 during a family trip to NYC. I was looking for some newer scratch records and some rare groove mixes and left with DJ Eclipse's Fractured Breaks and Kon & Amir's On Track Vol. 1-3 on cassette. That was the one and only time I ever visited a FatBeats store. A shame I never got to make a return trip nor can I in the future.
My goodness. Dilated People's joint in the beginning. This joint was on every underground station. And they had like 3 remixes to that track too!!!! Long live the Halftime Show on WNYU 89.1FM!!!!!!!
if you wanna find high quality hip hop you can go to amoeba on 6400 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA or Record Surplus on 12436 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles, CA they still got real raw rare NEW and OLD cds and vinyls.
Ive been coping viynl herd scince 98,even tho now the hiphop scene has changed,i still shop here,to take my records back to England! Please support this shop
fuck... i cant believe it closed... the worst part about it is that i only got to go the day it closed... i mean it was great seing preemo but it seemed like a place i would love to just go and chill listen to same great music ugh.... there needs to be a new place for underground heads to just chill get some records, make connections etc
My nephew and I went to Fatbeats yesterday. We went to see Vinny Paz, her was signing his new CD. While we were talking to Vinny, Jus Allah showed up, another GREAT artist. We took a few photos with them outside, they were very personable. We then went up for the signing and i have to say it was like 105 degrees in there. They had no airconditioning. It was way too hot. My nephew finally got his CD signed by Vinny, took a few more photos with Vinny and Jus.

I'm from Stamford CT just for me to take metro north to grand central and take I think take the 4 to Astor pl , I'm around Bleeker st and I past the big metal cube , and look for 1 n 2 st , I wasn't scared of the white pitbull they had in the basement , I'm a part of hip hop culture and Mike Zulu that was one of the producer for big pun is from Stamford CT , Mike Zulu CT .
