See? I like how Kev walking through the REAL process of beat making! Alot of cats act like it's a magical process...man, it just takes time, having a good ear for knowing what happens as you're chopping and where the beat is going once you got it chopped....that's all a process! hit em off Kev! Lemme spit on onna your tracks...DC/MD!
I love watching videos like this right before starting work on a song...so inspiring (not in a "lemme copy this" kind of way, but it gives me confidence that "I can do something hot, too")
fantastic producer. I didn't know him until I found his songs on youtube today. But from what I heard now, to me, he's on the same level as Pete Rock and Premier!!! Peace from Germany~
I watched this vid like 2 yrs ago and didn't really pay attention what he did with the sample( was just thinking it was another beat video)..crazy how he filtered the strings to make the bass..and then layered it with those same strings from the sample!!! AMAZING!
definately has talent.. mad props.. i haven't seen anybody rock any mpc as fast as you did especially with the turntable?? what!? this dude just took wave editors to school with this video! wish he would've let the beat ride at the end though.. i was about to bop to it & it cut =(
what i love about Kev Brown is his music makes it ok to be a REGULAR guy. Everyone is a pimp, hustler, gangsta, etc. He makes music for us regular men who are fathers, workers, and just living life without millions in the bank.
he sampled every sound he wanted one by one, all assigned to pads then pitched them down manually when he wanted, like he said. nothing automatic about it. it takes patience and is no different then any other sampler with pads. the only thing you don't see him do is assign everything. he rearranged the sounds how he wanted piece by piece and thats what's called chopping.
i see some people are leaving comments like Kev is a novice or something! this dude is a hip hop legend. i hold him in the same respect that i held Dilla. Kev is one of the most underrated producers in the game... Her Infinite Power Helping Oppressed People...lives!
i chop samples in sony acid. i make the beat in reason 4.0. it works for me. alot of people look down at beat software but its how u use it. talent is the key. i like midi keyboards.
Man I was in the 8th grade when this video was uploaded lol. I only started making beats two years ago. I wished that I was making beats back then lol. I would've been much better then I am right now.

Typical white boy. Dry-hating on greatness.
No it is a magical process it’s definitely needing some soul and can’t nobody take that from you or create that it’s born from the aethers
I still consider it magic
