- Full power overlay and race on-board footage from the Expert race, at Round 3 of the British National Points Series Cross Country Mountain Bike Race at Matterley Basin, in Winchester.
The course was local to me and one I had raced earlier in the year, but the wet and muddy conditions made for some tough racing. The course had some steep and brutal climbs, with fast muddy singletrack. Being my first National Race as an 'Expert' it was a big jump up, with no let up throughout. It was full gas from start to finish and big power needed to hold the wheel up the climbs. Mistakes were made, but it's all a massive learning curve.

love your video 😂👍I am 50 this year, racing MTB 15 year and still getting stronger......just never give up 💪💪💪💪
🙌🙌
Clicked for the racing, stayed for the commentary.
🙌🙌
Love the self critique, well done, looks like a very tough race, really enjoyed your commentary! New sub here from Philadelphia, Pa. USA
Thanks appreciate it 🙌
Great commentary 👌 “G’wan - foot out flat out, love ittttt!!”
Thanks gravel granny 🙌 haha got to love it!
This is just the peak of my weekend.
A full weekend of DYI Dave. And you drop this beauty of a vid 😍
Great job mate!
Haha hope the diy is going well 😬 thanks mate more in the tank for sure as well 👌
Giorgi, Keep thinking... "flow like water"..."light as a butterfly" through corners and over roots. Make up seconds by big gearing it downhill. You're doing great in these difficult conditions!! BTW good watt-power numbers. Try working 110% 3-5 min intervals. You're welcome for the unsolicited coaching LOL.
That’s reminds me of what my dad shouts at me “float the bike” and thanks for the tips all advice is appreciated 👌
This is awesome! Thank you for this. I was wondering about the power required to have to XC race. This gives me a good idea for training.
The guy at 0:55 bought largest giant gravel frame and put flat bars on it. I like it.
That’s a great spot I never noticed that 👀
Lovely course and great commentary!
Nice one Giorgio. Mud? Where😂! Seriously, top job, see you at Checkendon. I'll be one on the poor man's rollers warming up around the car park😊
It was super muddy 😜 see you at checkendon… just reminded me to enter 🙌
These videos are really fun and good to watch as an aspiring xc racer who haven't even done my first race yet. I enjoy the technique and strategy part of the xc races, not just motoring through as you talk about somewhere in the beginning. As well as keeping pedaling wherever you can, downhill for me means just coasting haha. Keep it up!
Thank you 🙌 I hope you do give racing a try it’s a great challenge and very fun… let me know how you get on if you do race 🙌
Solid racing mate and great video, if only we could combine your legs and my single-track skills 😂
😂 that would be the dream combo for Woodys… great racing with you and hopefully I will see you in a couple of weeks on the start line 💪
Great video, thanks. And Red Bull TV need to hire you for your commentary skills asap!
Thanks and haha maybe one day 👀😂
love these race vids and commentary G, well done on the race position, big effort on the power - dial in the flow and get to that single track first! great result mate
Thanks mate 🙌 still a lot to work on… I thought I was getting better in the singletrack but looks like some more work is needed 😂
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling dude you're smashing it on the power so just go loose on the techy bits and as your old man said -float the bike!! it'll all come together soon, fingers crossed for a yeh-ha soon :) great videos G, you've got this!
Cracking result Georgey boy! Great climbing. Keep working on the skills, youre improving every race!
Thanks mate 🙌 more technical practice and hopefully I can put it all together and get a good result 👌
Seems like there is no more empty shell man, you can recover in race and still have some berries left ! Well done 🙂 Thanks for cleaning the GoPro while racing, that's so much dedication 😆 Perfect commentary too 👌🏻
Yep the fitness is starting to increase, I’m doing some harder efforts in training which has helped and I managed to get my fuelling right this time 😅
Got to keep the camera clean for you 😜 although I do only do it on flat sections as the last thing I need to do is take my hands off the bars during the singletrack 😂
Superb effort there, G. It's all coming together for you. Keep it up. The results will reflect.
Thanks mate… a bit more work to do on the downhills but it will come I’m sure 🤞
You are so fun to watch and listen to - keep going!!!
Good one Giorgio, hopefully dry for next week!
I do hope so… the weather is looking promising which is good 🤞
Great result I'd say! It's good that you have the video to identify areas that you can improve in. Keep it going 👍
Really helpful being able to watch it back and I know where I can make big improvements which is good 🙌
Well done, your video’s are so funny 😂
🙌 thanks mate
I’m 64 and racing 30 mile mtb!!
Race commentary and self piss take beyond anything! You need to replace Sean Kelly on Eurosport! Thanks for th honest (hilarious) insight into all this. You are cycling
brilliantly as well. You keep swinging that chopper of yours!
😂 thanks not sure I would be PG enough for Eurosport’s 😬😂 this it’s what it’s all about push the limits and swing the chopper 😂
Well done 👍
Great video , well done xx
Thank you 🙌
Great commentary/critical review. I could criticise a lot more on your first few mtb races, now you're becoming a legend 😊
🙌 still a lot to work on so always good to watch it back and see all the mistakes I’m making 😂
Single track training camp coming your way! Great effort mate we’ll raced
100% needed… I need an idiots guide to getting downhill fast 😜😂
You're bloody strong George, but your analysis is perfect I think.. gotta get better on the single track.
For sure a lot to work on it’s nice knowing the fitness is there… most people find it easier to go downhill 😂
@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling nah kick em while they're down. I subscribe to that but don't have the power to back it up
What is your camera setup for the races? Love your content.
This was filmed on a GoPro hero 8 but I use a 9 now 👌
I just started watching you and I also race xc but I just wanted to know what bike your riding
I have a S-works epic EVO but in this race I was on my hard tail which is a Four4th lights mtb frame 👌
Accent was so unbearably british I had to stop watching one minute in.
😂
