Yeah, that was weird comparison. According to wikipedia Sweden has a war time reserve of 64 000 person, and a peace time reserve of 32 900. The combined military personnel of Sweden wouldn't even be half of the Finnish wartime reserve, let alone peace time reserves.
Sweden have never counted those who done military training. More or less all men over 45 years have done military training. On the question of monarchy, I really think more people should take into consideration what our beloved Stephen Fry once said. He said that (specifically in GB): "having a higher absolut regent, that the prime minister must visit every end of the week, explaining his actions and work, humbles and forces politicians to think another round before making rash decisions, because they know they are servants of the nation/queen/king - not the untouchable rulers". Not exact word for word, but I think he had a good point.
Hasn't humbled the British politicians much, now has it? They got used to knowing that the Queen would never say anything that hadn't been approved by government, so why worry? There was a time when Charlie looked like he might turn into a bit of a loose cannon, but seems to have calmed down now that he actually has the job. If it can be called that.

I believe "cars" imported and exported include trucks, dumpers, and excavators from Volvo and Scania, which are huge exports from Sweden. I might be wrong though.
What does per capita mean in? Per capita is a Latin phrase literally meaning "by heads" or "for each head", and idiomatically used to mean "per person". The term is used in a wide variety of social sciences and statistical research contexts, including government statistics, economic indicators, and built environment studies.
I would say the main reason why top export product in Sweden is cars is because of electrical vehicles and that Norway for a long time has bought electric cars from Sweden because they are subsidized by the Swedish government. So a Swedish car company buy 10 Tesla cars, gets the subsidence and therefore pays less for them and then exports them to Norway and sell them a bit cheaper but still earns money. (Its possible that the rules have changed now, because this was not what the Swedish government intended when they subsidized electric cars.)
These clips usually have quickly googled information. This video has multiple missleading facts. I wouldn't say Suomenlinna is the landmark number one but that castle in picture is actually Olavinlinna. Hockey is number one in both countries.
Turning Torso is not the tallest building in Sweden, that title has been overtaken by Karlatornet in Gothenburg, Sweden it is 247 meters high, with 74 floors above ground.
Same with the Majakka ( it literally means light house), it's not the tallest building, when ever the video has been made. Tallest building before 2024 was Näsinneula 168 meters ( it's a restaurant/ viewing platform in Särkänniemi amusement park). The tallest building in 2024 is a newly built chapel tower in Kirkkonummi and it is 185 meters tall.
The median age is because we aren't reproducing here in Finland. It's nice how you put a positive twist into it by saying it's because of air quality and such, but in reality the air quality is probably not much different (even though I believe we were deemed as having the best air in the world in Finland). Birth rates are alarmingly low in both countries, but Sweden has many more immigrants and they tend to reproduce more than the natives. Also about the Olympic medals, if I remember correctly Finland has the most medals per capita in the world.

It's highly debatable whether Football or Ice Hockey is Sweden's biggest sport. Both Sweden and Finland are ranked at above Top 5 in Ice Hockey in the world, at least in Collage/Junior Ice Hockey

About The Tallest Scyscraper. Atleast Sweden has a lot of regulations on height of buildings in the bigger cities! So those BIG skyscrapers are built outside the cities mostly, thus hard to justify bigger too. The rules are about keeping the City Skyline historical, and low as Stockholm has always been, no super ugly skyscrapers you can see for Miles upon miles away. A small detail about meatballs, The ikea ones are.. Authentic, but also like the cheapest least good version of it, like you can go to a resturant and get SO much better plate of Swedish meatballs and so on.
Some of these things has to do with immigration, good and bad. Sweden has accepted more assylum seekers, so the demographics are changed by that, neither country produce enough children to fill up the gap, but by accepting in children and young couples who are keen to make babies, it makes the median age a bit lower. However by not having particularly good Swedish education for new Swedes, and a bit of racism, and stuffing most of them in the same areas, it's not strange that some of them turn to crime. Add to that PTSD, they may have watched when their mother and sister were raped.
Yes, and they may even have seen their family brutality KILLED! And other horrible stuff that wars get. 😢 It’s not hard to understand that probably all of the immigrants have PTSD!

Neither of us are terribly flat. We just let our mountains be the tallest things around. Poor Denmark is pretty much a pancake in comparison. 😂
The military top allies: Sweden & UK have a lot of Weapon development R&D together, some companies CO:Owned. Finland & Sweden was always eachothers closest allies prior to Nato, and most likely past Nato join too, even though technically Sweden having been Neutral for 200+ years, we still did have lots of military plans together with Finland for all sorts of situations, and did train together. But when it comes to R&D for military equipment, UK & Sweden are big time allies, if I remember Sweden was UK's biggest R&D companion when it comes to military equipment too, so goes both ways. A prime example of somethings thats used a lot in Ukraine: N-Law, it's a UK & Swedish made anti tank weapon system, aimed at competing with Javalin and such at better price point. I would argue Javalin is a better weapon compared 1 on 1, but you get like a 6 N-laws for 1 Javalin, the Javalin is too expensive for most armies around the world, including Europe. And it's too expensive for America to use as their primery infantry antitank weapon too, only deployed sparingly within their forces. Meanwhile the N-Law is ment to be the primery anti tank / IFV / Enemy combat viencles, weapon, while you still have other even cheaper options like AT4/Carlgustav to take out transport Viencles, Bumkers, buildings or what have you, where even the N-law will seem exessivly expensive. (both of those, AT4 & Carlgustav beeing swedish made and used by US & UK). Meanwhile Finlands biggest military R&D companion is Sweden, but France not far behind.
10:57 That is not picture of Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) in Helsinki but Olavinlinna in Savonlinna (Eastern Finland). Suomenlinna has no towers but bastions.
Something to point out about the religion statistic(atleast in Sweden) is that that percentage of “Christianity” is the percentage of people who are registered to the church of Sweden not “active believers”, When polls have gone around about people’s personal beliefs it’s very clear that a huge chunk of those registered aren’t actually “believers”. Many non believing Swedes will register because they want to baptize their children or go through the confirmation process in their teens but what drives *many* to go through these processes is actually *tradition* rather than actual belief, and very few “bother” to “unsubscribe” from the church when they’re older since it’s such an afterthought.
We had a referendum on the Euro and the popular vote was to stay out of it. We now avoid joining the euro-collaboration on a technicality (because unlike UK and Denmark, we don't have a legal exception).
11:23 is technically wrong, probably since the video is from 1 year ago, the tallest building in Sweden is Karlatornet, in Gothenburg, they are still finishing the inside but the outside and lower floors are done. So you could classify it "under construction" but wikipedia pages about tallest buildings do not classify it as Under construction, it is said to be fully done some time in spring. Its 246m tall compared to the Turning Torso which is 190m, for a quick comparison. Swedens new tallest building is Karlatornet with 246m and Finlands tallest building is Majakka with 134m. Turning Torso was already the tallest building in the Nordics but Karlatornet made it even harder for the other Nordics to beat it. Its also the 27th tallest in Europe. Karlatornet's design was made by the same people who made the One World Trade Center.
I'm a Brit living in Finland and a British organisation asked my for my signature recently. I tried to provide one and realized that a) it has changed and b) none of my attempts to sign were consistent with each other. REASON i haven't signed anything in years because we now authenticate everything electronically here in Finland using secure apps. Even my bank's computers don't have my password. They haven't issued cheque books to customers for more than 30 years. But the British organization is unable to accept my elecronic credentials 😢
Long time ago my signature was neat and easily readable. Then I worked in warehouse where I had to sign all the forms for incoming and outgoing materials. Not so clear anymore. In fact it might be messier than doctor's signature.
The per capita number for Sweden is wrong it's around 64,000. 660 billion divided by 10,2 million and for Finland 315 billion divided by 5,5 million around 57,000.
In Sweden we are pretty proud to have a royal family I’d say, but we don’t take them as “serious” u can say. More like just icons, we tend to joke about them a lot and they tend to play along with it pretty well. We just have it for tradition sake but everyone knows that they are taken with a grain of salt and we don’t care too much, even they know.
You are so right on point on a bunch of stuff. Finns are not happy at all. We just accept what life gives us 😅. Nature gives a lot of happiness, even when you are poor. 8:43 Did they forget to write something in the AREA-area? Also, they had to write that "Puolustusvoimat" was Finnish? If it was not that, what would it have been? It is a bit strange that it is Swedish Armed Forces and Finnish Defence Forces. When I looked up "Puolustusvoimat" you could read Försvarsmakten on Swedish speaking Finnish Defence Forces webpages. Försvar = Defence.
per capita means per person as Finland has less people even though GDP is less but people on average have more money "capita" = citizen. = One persons impact on GDP. It's average happiness, Finland doesn't have a lot of desperate people and has a lot of happy people. You can't go broke, you can't loose your home, you can't run out of money, (government saves you, becomes your parent, says what you do and gives you money while you're building your life up again) free healthcare, free education etc. Same reason why crime is low in Finland because almost nobody is broke so they don't steal.

No idea what "pocket" they find Iceland and especially France. I am Finn. I feel allies are now in Nato countries mainly, (reasons). Sweden (neighbour, especially air and ocean forces, including submarines, Finland help with air forces), Estonia (neighbour, Finland help with air forces), Norway (neighbour, all forces, Finland maybe help with air forces ) ... later comes Denmark (naval forces, and air forces, it have ocean route to Finland) and UK (naval and air forces) ... Yes, we eat moose. Dry meat with no fat in the muscles make it a little special to cook. Stefan Persson (with family) is the "owner" and former CEO of H&M.
15:40 "That might be the highest in Europe" Czechia: 😳 Lol no clue about our non-religious %, but I've never met a religious person yet here, all churches we have are historical, it's kind of our stereotype 😅. I always saw Swedes as very religious so that was funny to me as well.
In both Finland and Sweden most people are written into a church, but most aren't actually that religious. I'd say most are so called "Cultural Christians" who celebrate for example Easter, Christmas etc. not because of their religious faith, but because it has become a tradition.
Steffan Persson has inherited that money tho. Also he might be richest individual. But Wallenbergs (family of generaional wealth) in Sweden have a fund that owns about half of the whole Sweish stock market. So yeah if you work hard and all that, but generational wealth is usually the case when it comes to bilioners. Also the way Wallenbergs got that money in the first pace is bit immoral (ww2 things). You should check the a documenary on how Wallnbergs got that wealth.
In terms of religiosity there is that same factor of people who culturally identify as christian, but there are two other factors. First is that before 1991 and for a long time in Swedish history it was the responsibility of the church, likely because they were everywhere, to keep track of citizen registration. This meant that every child born before 1991 was automatically entered as a member of the Swedish Church. I am, despite being non-religious, simply because it's a pain in the ass to unregister. I really should get around to it though. Secondly there are a lot of people, even born after 91, who voluntarily become members despite being non-religious because they want a church wedding, a church burial service, or just want to help pay for maintenance on what they consider historical cultural buildings, like churches and their grounds. I would estimate the percentage of people who don't believe in gods to be much higher in reality, probably closer to 85-90%. It would probably be accurate with 60% religiosity though if you consider believing in other supernatural things to be religion. There's a joke we say here that the national religion of Sweden is "I don't believe in god, but I believe in something". You'll have a much easier time finding a person who believes in ghosts than god here.
wrong, Russia stole Finland from sweden and made it a Puppet state: Duchy of Finland, a semi autonomous country within the russian empire, and then after the 2nd world war Finns payed with blood to try and get their freedom, they managed to stop a full Soviet invasion but was a satalite state in the coldwar to Soviet and in the Warza packt hemosphare wich they manage to leave after the break of Soviet 1990

Our crime index has sky rocked due to how badly we handled immigration, leading to lots of young people not feeling their basic fulfillment having a hard time in school and poorer parents, meaning a hard time to find free time activities. Criminal gangs can be very attractive then for those people who see no way forward in life. Crime index is also hard to accurately track due to some crimes not being reported all the time. Finland for example have problems with domestic abuse if I remember correctly, while Sweden has problems with gang criminality and one is way more likely to get reported than the other. GDP per capita is way of. Sweden has 61,000 dollars and Finland 53,000 dollars. Estonia used to belong to Sweden during its great power era and has stayed close since that time.
I mean they never said it was the tallest building
The median age is because we aren't reproducing here in Finland. It's nice how you put a positive twist into it by saying it's because of air quality and such, but in reality the air quality is probably not much different (even though I believe we were deemed as having the best air in the world in Finland). Birth rates are alarmingly low in both countries, but Sweden has many more immigrants and they tend to reproduce more than the natives.
Also about the Olympic medals, if I remember correctly Finland has the most medals per capita in the world.
Finnish Wärtsilä Maritime diesel engines moves the worlds biggest container ships, its also the worlds largest diesel engine, its a size of a house. Its a moose, not an elk
Per capita GDP is simply GDP divided by population.
It doesn't say much about spending power as it doesn't take account of costs, taxation etc.
But then Sweden would have a GDP per capita of 59 000 dollars, so the video is wrong about that...
@@polytaur The video is very wrong, Sweden's GDP per capita in 2024 is 61,000 USD. In the year 2022 when the video was posted, Sweden had a GDP per capita of 55,000 USD.
@@polytaurI think they maybe made a silly mistake of doing one nominal and the other PPP but might be wrong.
The Finnish drink/drunk cykle 4-5 hours :
1 be angry and quiet..drink again and again and..again
2 u still angry but now u open ur mouth and say something random- drink!!
3 get sad and start arguing about small things - drink more
4 get angry again swear and look for someone to fight with - drink more
5 get nostalgic and sad and start singing with tears in your eyes - drink even more
6 become unconscious with your forehead against the table and your hand around the glass
Oh i love my Finnish Suomi brothers ..but i never drink with them, i learnt my lesson =)
I've seen boomers do this, but never younger generations. Don't know weather it is bc I found better company than the background I'm coming from, or if there's an actual change
And the Finnish Sniper Simo Häyhä. Sweden is larger, but did deconstruct their defences after the cold war ended. While Finland did continue to construct theirs during the same time. Finns are not as naive as swedes.
I disagree with that. There is a very simple explaination; sharing a giant border with Russia.
finland was actually about to have a german king in 1918 but since germany were about to loose he decided to abdicate before he became a king

Median age doesn't say anything about life expectancy. It is about the distribution of people at different ages.
Its much less religuis people in sweden its about 18% but every body was bapticed before and most are people moving to sweden😊
When a state gives up their currency, it also gives up their ability to influence the unemployment rate, interest rate, inflation, and such.

(Although in 2019, the tallest point in Sweden switched because the tallest mountain peak is topped with perma frost and ice, but that's been melting. Little less perma, a lot less ice. Yikes.) Poor Denmark is pretty much a pancake in comparison. 😂
The military top allies:
Sweden & UK have a lot of Weapon development R&D together, some companies CO:Owned.
Unemployment is not that low anymore in Finland. Now it's 10,8 %.
per capita is from latin and basically means per person.
You are correct.
Something to point out about the religion statistic(atleast in Sweden) is that that percentage of “Christianity” is the percentage of people who are registered to the church of Sweden not “active believers”,
When polls have gone around about people’s personal beliefs it’s very clear that a huge chunk of those registered aren’t actually “believers”.
Many non believing Swedes will register because they want to baptize their children or go through the confirmation process in their teens but what drives *many* to go through these processes is actually *tradition* rather than actual belief, and very few “bother” to “unsubscribe” from the church when they’re older since it’s such an afterthought.
Exactly the same in Finland.
"Karlatornet" is 74 floors and have a view Floor for every one to go upp to at floor 69
Sweden have more water based electricity power. Electricity market is at least Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, maybe other countries too.
And you know that your children will be poor, you know that they will have nature nearby giving them strenght to fight for happyness. Money is shit. Family is everyrhing
But accepting what life gives you, i.e. being content with what you have...isn't that really the definition of happiness? Greetings 🇸🇪

Iceland (USA base, naval forces defence against Russian navy, oceans surround Norway, air forces and submarines too).

The term "happiness" is kind of incorrectly used in this instance, I think what they mean is really happiness as in being happy with your life, your living situation, feeling safe and so on, not happiness as in smiling all day long 😅

In both Finland and Sweden most people are written into a church, but most aren't actually that religious. I'd say most are so called "Cultural Christians" who celebrate for example Easter, Christmas etc. not because of their religious faith, but because it has become a tradition.

Per capita means 10% people in Sweden and 10% people in Finland. So it means the prosentual, doesnt matter how many people are there.
I am from Finland and I felt really sad when I heard that Elisabeth died. I don't know why but she really was the Queen.
For some time Finland was under Swedish kingdom rule. But the Fins needed to be free and have been for little bit more than 100 years now.
