@@mattgroom5179 With the strength you have now and your best sport grade being 7a+ there's an argument you could jump straight to 8a+ or 8b for chuckles. 8c sport should just about be in range for you if you continue as you are!

Thanks for this insight on your training programme Matt. I'm kinda struggling to progress at the moment (the infamous plateau), and was looking at methods to break it. I didn't know Lattice was doing those, so I'm following you with great interest to get a good feedback on this training programme.
Keep it up (for your personal goals and with Climbing Daily) and I wish you a happy new year !

I think having a bad day with the hangs is due to the pullups before. At least in the video it looks like it's mainly your left shoulder, not your fingers that give in?

How long are the wood screws for your hangboards? I’ve always wanted to drill into a wooden beam.

So with all the rucksacks you own, you still used one of the bags from the Epic TV Shop with the labels still attached to do the max hangs? Sneaky!

Pretty interested by the numbers you've scored, I've been testing and training this stuff for a while (just not paying for an assessment). My current 7s max hang (strict half crimp) is 56.25kg and 2 rep max pullup is around 45kg with a bodyweight of ~65kg and height of 181cm. It seems I need to up that 2 rep max! I struggle through 5x5's at ~26kg, not sure how so many guys like you smash 30kg+. I might try the 60% of max repeaters and see what I can manage, didn't realise that was how lattice measured power endurance. Thanks for making lattice seem less mysterious!

    Dude Matt honestly, two things:
    1) You are sick so be happy with what you get cause that is what you are gonna get.
    2) You did your max pull ups before your max hangs so it was obvious you were gonna suffer on your max hangs, don't be so pissed about it but also be careful as you can get injured. You could have maybe recovered if you rested a couple hours that day and ate (rest doesn't mean sleep in this case just don't do any physical activity for that period of the day until you come back to the max hangs.) I am assuming you have the time to do that, but if you didn't have the time then you'd have to do it right away as you did in this session then you will suffer haha, happy new years, feel better soon and goodluck with your program.

Should be ok to 'auto regulate' weights for these session, right? (adding or removing weight to make sure you hit rep/time goals)

@@mattgroom5179 It's not a bad habit to get into, realising that not all days are created equal. Some days you might be undershooting with x weight as you feel strong, some days you need to remove a little. Have a strong 2020, and thanks for all the cool content!

Hey Matt, thanks for the great vlogs, the honesty realness is amazing and inspiring to see. Check out Eric Hörst’s training for climbing podcast episode 38, question 3 at 16mins for chat about combining different max strength exercises in one session. Short answer is it’s fine as long as they are different muscle groups. So flexors and shoulder are ok to combine.
