I like what Kelly said about giving grace to our parents and that once we become parents, it is possible that we do things unintentionally that our kids would disagree with. No one is perfect. It is important to be gracious and forgive.

My mom was killed on my 5th or 6th b day over 47 years ago and I could never find forgiveness for her because of the lifestyle that I thought she lived, but after watching this video it feels like a lightbulb just switched on reiterating to me that she was only 27 and she was being taken advantage of by men. Thank you for helping me to release her from this blame and for helping me to free my mind of this burden.
Best wishes to Kelly and her father.

As Kelly said, your father is your foundation and identity… Mothers are hurt when their relationship does not work out with the baby daddy, some are hurt to the point where they poison their children heart about their father which is so wrong… My mom was always speaking negatively about my father. I was in my 30s married with 3 children when I finally got the opportunity to have a sit down with my father.. I basically just listened to his story… As Kelly said, her dad had a story and a history and he always loved us kids, we were denied that connection, but Grace won! My mon is now gone, my dad still here, just celebrated his 106 bday in September! Very witty and happy, plays chess and dominoes everyday, living a good life surrounded by his family… 🤷🏽‍♀️💕🙏🏽

We formed a great relationship and were there for each other as needed over the years. He has since remarried, so the liberty to see him is not as it was. However, I am thankful for the time we had and that I forgave him. So, proud of Kelly and her Dad. They were an added bonus to each other's life now. I’m happy for Kelly and her peace. And I’m also always suspicious of parents that abandon their children then comeback once they’re successful. It makes me angry that parents can abandon their children like that. I haven’t reached that point yet of forgiveness. My father wasn’t present in my life either and he’s now deceased. I’m working through that pain in therapy but it angers me that people create children and aren’t around to raise them. No one could keep me from my kids. Not the father, mother whomever. People fight for what they want. I am happy they got through this but good for Kelly for making him wait outside the gate. He made her wait her whole life. Serves him right. But now that’s in the past and they can move on ❤

I agree with many of the things you said in your comment.
My father was a womanizer who sponged off my mom before they got married and after. He left the family without telling her.
He was physically abusive to all his children to the point where he caused injury.
When I became an adult, he called me wanting to see me; he was quite emotional. I booked a flight and went to visit him.
He was now old and not in good health. During the visit, he never once apologized for deserting us. Instead, he blamed her parents, who, when he walked out on my mom, helped her raised us.
I knew then that he had not changed, but was just too old to continue in that lifestyle. In a short time after I stopped communicating with him.
I'm also suspicious when they want to reconcile once their child becomes successful and/or are now old and need someone to take care of them.

Kelly said " just know that you are loved ", and yes she's right you are loved , matter fact that person is Jesus himself. He loved you unconditionally, so much that he gave his life for you on that cross, so you can have relationship with him and recieved him as your person Lord and savior and also be with him for eternity one day.
God love you , John 3:16 " For God love the world so much that whoever believe in him will not perish but have everlasting life".
just remember you do have a spiritual father that you can always count on. He is there for you and he have his arm open waiting for you to talk to him or to lean on him.

This was beautiful! I lived this and allowing my dad back into my life was one of the best decisions I ever made! He brought so much completion and understanding. Like Kelly, I got only my mom’s side… as he shared his side a much fuller and accurate narrative emerged. The moms mean no harm but they often speak through the lens of their own pain from the failed relationship. And because they give you a steady diet of their own bitterness and discontentment..One feels like you are betraying the one who was always there, if/when dad shows up. It’s so damaging to the child.
    Such a good show!!!!

I have an abandonnement issue for not having my father in my life. I had a good mother who did her best but she never told me about her relationship with him. I just assumed he didnt want me. My mother told me he broke his promise to pick me up so she cut ties with him. She didnt want him in her life but actually cut him from mine. I forgave her for that. I feel like she didnt know how to share me. He called a couple of times when I was studying. He was angry. We argued. And we stayed in no contact for years until I heard he was dead. I eventually was abandonned by my husband and my lover because I felt abandonned by my father. I have forgave him as I now know he didnt know how to affirm himself as a father. He had children with many different women : he probably tried each time to build a relationship but had other women in his ear. I forgave him. I learned I was lovable and I am loved. He didnt abandonned me persay: je just had so much to deal with he could balance his life to fit me in it and he probable thought he would do it later. He tried but I was hurt. I am still hurt but I am healing. I am growing and releasing the feeling of abandonment to realise he did the best that he could. My mother was very strong. They couldnot learn balance and love for each other but they chose to separate when I was a baby. They were "friends". I was happy that my mother had a boyfriend before she died. I hope my father was not alone either. He lived fully, he loved women and I forgive him for letting me go so he could try focusing on other things. I had to let my daughter go for a while to focused on my mental health and healing from my mother's sudden death. So I went through karma and learn the lesson. I'm thankful for understanding.

I’m so glad the way Kelly’s story worked out. I on the other hand had both father and mother. My mother did everything for us, whereas my father was absent in the lives of my brothers and I even though we lived in the same house hold. He was never involved in my life as a child or teen, nor was he involved in my life all through my 20’s, 30’s & 40’s. Now I am in my 50’s & he is battling dementia, & he expects me to move back home & take care of him & my mother. For my mother, I would move heaven & earth if I could, but if I do this for my father, it will take the grace of God. So for those of you who complain & are upset & gutted that you didn’t have a father growing up…neither did I. My mother was a registered nurse with a degree in nursing. We could have survived without him.🇨🇦

I think what is most important here is not the forgiveness per se but the ability to summon courage to listen to both sides of the stories and establish the truth, because it is wrong to reach a conclusion based solely on one person's account. Very many times, people do not really see what is wrong about themselves and whomever dare attempt to point it to them is a potential enemy.

O, my childhood was a rough go-round so I get it. I, too, had an absentee father, but decades later when he was at a more mellow, evolved and grounded stage of his life, we reconnected. We sat down at a kitchen table and both wept. He said he was sorry. What else could I say after that? It was good enough for me. It wasn't a perfect road going forward but we tried. Years later, his mind slipped away and he ultimately succumbed to Alzheimer's. We laid him to rest with heavy hearts and so many unanswered questions. Yet these days, when my thoughts turn to him, I remember him saying, through uncontrollable tears, "I'm sorry." At least we had that.

I appreciate her lovely advice. My father turned out to be a nightmare. After knowing him I learned that he was as evil as they get. In fact, I met him for the first time when I was 18 and he made himself known then because he knew that at 18 he had no responsibilities to me. I then disappeared from him the same year and 30 years later I got in contact with him again and the more he spoke, the more I saw what a liar and evil man he was. Then the penny dropped, and I realized that Yah was protecting me from him. It was good in some ways that I never knew him.

I’m happy for you Kelly. I found a plaque that read “Daughter’s first love is her father” and I believe it! As Kelly said that’s the foundation for healthy romantic relationsh. In my case, my father was a loving father and his life was cut short when I was just 13 years of age. The pain of losing him and the trauma of his untimely death left me unhealthy emotionally. Kelly, congratulations for taking the steps to reconcile with your father. It would have been nice if your mother was alive to witness it. She probably would have forgiven him if there’re resentments. People who are no longer with us cannot speak for themselves if they’re no longer here with us. Again, congratulations!

It's very important to listen to the other side of the story before one makes a decision. In most cases, some people suffer from 'beef' that was not theirs and end up making wrong decisions or having hate that was uncalled for.

This is what I needed this morning and I say this holding back tears as there is a very important relationship in my life that I haven't been able to heal because I haven't been able to get the forgiveness that I need to do and I don't think I need to look for an apology any longer because I've come to realize that certain people who hurt you even if you tell them they hurt you they won't acknowledge that and that right there was hurting me enough so I think that I might need to either see someone or step away from this very important relationship in my life
