I learned recently in my nuzloche that Exeggcute is a decent counter to Miktank as well, with access to Leech Seed and high defense which can be boosted higher with Reflect. To my knowledge this is the only Pokemon with access to Leech Seed before the level cap of 19, and due to Miltanks naturally high HP stat you will be recovering off a lot of the damage she inflicts every turn. Exeggcute can be found headbutting trees on Route 34, 35, and 36 to name a few, so you can guarantee it as well before Whitney with similar planning.
@@TwoBsTwoTs One NPC on Route 34 (Picnicker Gina) can sometimes call you telling you that she found a Leaf Stone, and once you talk to her, you’ll get one. Plus, there’s also the Pokéathlon.
You can poison Heracross very easily by just fighting wild nidoran in the patch of grass right outside the south entrance to the national park. They can have poison point and will likely poison you after a few contact moves. Edit: just remember to bring plenty of potions so it doesn’t die on the way back to the gym

Depends on the game you play. Black 2 is notorious for having a very tough early game because Cheren's team can wipe the floor with you if you get a little unlucky with encounters.
It depends, I know in Oras if you do low level caps wattson is very difficult as you have to face a level 21 magneton with only level 19 pokemon, you miss out on a lot of key evos, and you can't rely on ground types because of confusion
In vanilla games, absolutely not. If you try your hand at romhacks, they are. But even then, after gym 3 or 4, most of the games are still a breeze if you keep a lot of pokemon alive; the E4 is the only threatening thing there.
In my HG Nuzlocke, the Clefairy's metronome turned into Blast Burn... but luckily, my Nidoran survived with 1 HP. For Miltank, I sent out Gastly and used Curse, but forgot about Scrappy, so it died to Miltank's next attack. It took Heracross and Croconaw together to take it down.
In normal Game Play Bayleef is surprisingly useful (it's very weak to unwanted Crit(. Especially if it's a female one, since it allows to negate Attract. Bayleef has two amazing moves by that point: Reflect and Growl. They can also heal themselves with Synthesis. Reflect simply cut all physical damage by two, and Growl diminish Miltank's Attack even further. So eventually, excluding a Crit, it will eventually do barely any damage. Sadly Bayleef can't do much damage, the best option would be to try to hit two Poison Powder (since it has a Lum Berry on the Remake). But switching on your team powerhouse is a better option. Clearly not as efficient, but since it's one of the rare time Chikorita really can shine, it's worth noting.

Thanks for the video. I'm doing a hardcore Nuzlockes of HG rn and wish I used this strat for Heracross. I used the Machop to beat her, but it took some luck!
I’m on my fifth attempt of my first nuzlocke right now and Whitney has taken me from 0 or 1 deaths to restarting four times in a row already. My only other deaths so far have been one intentional sacrifice and one crit Ember from the Magmars right outside the city. I was only able to get the trade Machop twice thanks to bad encounter luck-the first time she flinched every single turn she was out, and the second time she got to attack once before being crit by Stomp. Two of my starters have been OHKO’d by Stomp crits (one of them on turn 1 😭). On my best attempt I had a Nidorino that got two defense drops off with Rock Smash but the Miltank just heals and it’s all for nothing. I’ve written out pages and pages of strategy ideas using Static, wasting her Lum Berry as early as possible, Flash, Leer, Synthesis, Encore, having multiple high crit chance moves on the team, defense drops-but none of it means _anything_ when I’m going 4, 5, 5+ turns in a row without being able to move at all. And Miltank seems to crit with stomp a LOT. 3 times in an 8 turn battle where my Razor Leaf hasn’t crit once yet? 😬 I’m incredibly frustrated and now I just don’t think I’m attempting this battle again without the Heracross encounter. I haven’t gotten it yet but maybe if I start using dupes clause something will change. Thank you sm for this!
Whitney is the reason that I have a "No more than two mons" policy before I beat her gym. Any more than 2 and you spread the exp you can get a little too thin, but with two you should be nice and properly leveled in a casual playthrough. I have a similar process when trying to make Firered easier, but its more for clean progression when working my way towards the elite four than for Misty or Serge.
Here's a really easy way to beat Whitney: Dunsparce. The only other two pokemon that you can get in Dark Cave is Geodude and Zubat which are really common in places like Union Cave, Slowpoke well and Route 46. And, while setting up on Clefairy is risky, it's not at all hard to get 6 defense curls on Clefairy (especially if you put Clefairy to Sleep with any mon with Sleep Powder from Ilex or Gastly's Hypnosis), use Glare, use Rage to get a few attack buffs, glare Whitey's Miltank twice (once to get rid of Lum Berry) and she's yours for the taking
The thing is, Ubers isn't formed like regular tiers. Regular tiers are formed through usage and BL is formed through bans from lower tiers, so an UUBL for example means "not used enough to be OU but too strong for UU". Ubers on the other hand is defined as "too strong for OU". To be in a BL a mon has to be too strong for its lower tier but not enough usage for the next higher usage based tier, but since there is no usage based tier over OU, that means that Ubers essentially is OUBL.
most recently i would just use a graveler with magnitude and rock polish in the face of clefairy it pretty much beats miltank clean at +2 speed Edit: i guess it still depends on metronome rng but even then if clefairy has to use metronome to counter the strategy i dont see that as a true menace plus clefairy isnt super particularly bulky
I just made an attempt of this battle today and while my Bayleef was out, Clefairy got Heat Wave, then Heal Order, then Icicle Spear with Metronome. It’s dicey even for non-speedrunners 😭😂
I know I don't do nuzlockes as there not much harder than normal runs to me, but if it counts I just use the gift spearow, It can beat whinty alone around 90% of the time with any support to cover its set up
Idk about HG or SS but in the original G/S I never had an issue with her Miltank. I played it for the first time like 10 years ago so knew all the memes, was expecting it to be very hard and then it was super simple
Paralysis is useless compared to poison or burn. It halves the speed of the Pokémon and has the chance to make them unable to move. Those traits are undesirable compared to the damage from poison and burn. For Pokémon with abilities like Guts, Quick Feet and Magic Guard (which utilize status conditions) burn and poison is infinitely better solely because the don’t hinder their speed and they are guaranteed to move.
Could you do a video on how to play voltorb flip? I legit have no idea how to play it and the videos I’ve seen on it have not been helpful. This was a sick video!
No matter how much I strategize for Whitney her RNG always prevails 😭 often times I can beat her but always at the cost of one or two Pokemon which is really unfortunate. One effective strategy I’ve found is you can guarantee Geodude and usually a bellsprout which you can trade for onix, geodude is obv good but onix is really key… He lvls quick which is convenient since early game grinding sucks but he also learns screech which is really nice since mil tank is extremelyyyy bulky early on. She often times can take 3 karate chops from machap but he can’t take 2 of her stomps lol
Dunsparce can also beat this fight if you do glare and serene grace headbutt strats, especially if you give it sub and roost and beat clefairy with a sub up
He even talked about that option and why it can be risky. Makes me wonder if you just like to repeat stuff or didn't watch the entire video before posting this
I had Sand Attack and Flash on all 4 of my attempts of this so far and it really hasn’t helped much yet. Once she lands one Attract, it’s over whether or not you risk switching out into a Stomp. On the attempts where I got a little luckier with her missing she still just heals if you get any decent damage off. Lowering accuracy _can_ help but it doesn’t make this fight exactly manageable!
Dunno of you'd be interested but I think videos analyzing the pvp scenes of other games like Pokemon GO/Unite would be interesting. Like for instance, in Pokemon GO there are three main leagues, Great, Ultra, and Master League divided by the total CP of a Pokemon. Due to how pvp works sites like Pvpoke can determine how overall useful things can be. For example in Ultra League, Registeel is ranked as a #1 overall Pokemon due to the sheer amounts of 1v1s it can win.
if you feel like Reseting a ton I find a female Chikorita has a good matchup vs Milktank. Guaranteed encounter and depending on your Nuzlocke rules can even get setup moves from the game corner. Kinda overkill vs one mon but its a reliable option.
I haven’t struggled with Whitney and in my last two Johto nuzlockes got lucky because in one I had a Fearow and the other a Dunsparce and clafairy used metronome and both times it was swagger, and both times I broke through confusion immediately. I can’t remember what Fearow used to one shot Miltank but Dunsparce was building up Rage and two shot it
My main strat is get a Geodude and use rock smash. It never failed, and even if it got attracted I could just use protect on it's replacement to stunt the Miltank's rollout and abuse it's lowered defenses for an easy ko.
@@stellarknight04 I am implying I either swapped or let it die, "I could use protect on it's REPLACEMENT". I never had to use the backup strategy though. Personally I don't value Geodude much, it's kinda dead weight after Whitney in HeartGold. So if it died to win the battle, I would be fine with that.
@@hunterotte9555 I did 2 runs one of which is what we were talking about, and the other one was the Normal Only run. Certain encounters in monotypes can be life savers like the 50% Water Absorb Wooper I got (because I let the rival pick Totodile) and Sandshrew, which in my opinion can probably Solo the entire game if you're patient enough to give Atk and Sp investment, and access to Swords Dance and Substitute in Goldenrod. Set up against Clefairy and sweep with Dig or Fight-Type Natural Gift, Shadow Claw Morty's team, Aerial Ace Chuck's team and by this point you probably get Yawn Quagsire which helps immensely. The Normal Type run was decent, a lot mid niche Pokemon except Taurus and Miltank. And then some real powerhouses Post-Game like Snorlax and the Togekiss you'd be able to evolve.
I don't remember for sure but I thought I disabled milk tanks rollout as my strategy edit: yeah you can get drowzee on route 34 and then use disable to prevent a rollout sweep. this was my strat as a kid not for nuzlocke
my Strat right now is beat clefairy with female geodude, then swap to ghastly to hopefully avoid stomp, sac it for curse and then stall with geodude. Edit: never mind it has scrappy.
For anyone who didn't know, geodude easily destroys Whitney by itself without set up. Just spam magnitude or rock throw and you win. Whitney can still get lucky with stomp flinch, but I basically carries the gym
In the original Gold, Silver and Crystal I just used the Fury Cutter TM that Bugsy gives you. It gets stronger against the Cleffairy, and then OHKOs the Miltank. In the remakes, yeah... It was a bad time.
Which is funnily enough the same strat speedrunners use, since they need fury cutter for Bayleef anyways and is more reliable than rage.
In the original ghastly was an automatic win v.s miltank as no scrappy and curse will kill miltank since they have to rollout to hit ghastly, slight less reliable in hardcore as ghastly might die to rollout but not super likely dont think.

Great breakdown but it’s the second one for HGSS. I *_love_* these games but others like Platinum and the Gen 5 one also have cool strats like this.
Idk about HG or SS but in the original G/S I never had an issue with her Miltank. I played it for the first time like 10 years ago so knew all the memes, was expecting it to be very hard and then it was super simple
How it would be if there was an object like flame/toxic orb, that instead of burning/poisoning, it paralyzes the user?
why would anyone use that
Paralysis is useless compared to poison or burn.
@@ReintGerts It wouldn't even be used for Fling because Light Ball can do that.
Have you seen LuckySevenDX's HeartGold Nuzlocke? Clefairy OHKO'd his Croagunk with Psycho Boost.
Dunsparce can also beat this fight if you do glare and serene grace headbutt strats, especially if you give it sub and roost and beat clefairy with a sub up
Tbf I just used the baby pokemon with charm that THE GAME GIVES YOU
Man I never struggled with Whitney cuz I'd always buy the Fire Blast tm from the mall and just kill that thing in 2 hits.
I just ran through Emerald version and use the repel trick to guarantee a Skarmory
Also route 34/35 you can catch a nidoran, both learn double kick and they beat Whitney
Freezai and Pokemon Challenges Nuzlocke collab when
I would get a Machop from trading with a NPC in Goldenrod City if i wanted to beat Whitney lol
He even talked about that option and why it can be risky.
Makes me wonder if you just like to repeat stuff or didn't watch the entire video before posting this
@@mdt56789 es he did say its risky but i would just do it in a normal run
If you took cyndaquil smokescreen is your best friend against miltank
Man loved it thanks
if you feel like Reseting a ton I find a female Chikorita has a good matchup vs Milktank. Guaranteed encounter and depending on your Nuzlocke rules can even get setup moves from the game corner. Kinda overkill vs one mon but its a reliable option.
In a casual playthrough you can just trade machop and click revenge
I haven’t struggled with Whitney and in my last two Johto nuzlockes got lucky because in one I had a Fearow and the other a Dunsparce and clafairy used metronome and both times it was swagger, and both times I broke through confusion immediately. I can’t remember what Fearow used to one shot Miltank but Dunsparce was building up Rage and two shot it
Fearow is above level cap though, so it isn’t viable in a hardcore nuzlocke
@@spegasparce1389 true, but Dunsparce I believe was level 18 so that’s justified
My main strat is get a Geodude and use rock smash. It never failed, and even if it got attracted I could just use protect on it's replacement to stunt the Miltank's rollout and abuse it's lowered defenses for an easy ko.
You can get infatuated even if you use Protect
@@stellarknight04 I am implying I either swapped or let it die, "I could use protect on it's REPLACEMENT". I never had to use the backup strategy though. Personally I don't value Geodude much, it's kinda dead weight after Whitney in HeartGold. So if it died to win the battle, I would be fine with that.
@@hunterotte9555 unless if you're not doing a Ground Only Nuzlocke, you can just sac it
@@stellarknight04 never tried a monotype run, so I wouldn't really know.
Good video! btw spearow is definitely not pronounced exactly like sparrow the animal, like what would be the point...
I went through Fire Red, Emerald, Platinum 1 run each and for some damn reason ive wiped twice in heartgold (Will & Whitney)
I don't remember for sure but I thought I disabled milk tanks rollout as my strategy
edit: yeah you can get drowzee on route 34 and then use disable to prevent a rollout sweep. this was my strat as a kid not for nuzlocke
my Strat right now is beat clefairy with female geodude, then swap to ghastly to hopefully avoid stomp, sac it for curse and then stall with geodude. Edit: never mind it has scrappy.
For anyone who didn't know, geodude easily destroys Whitney by itself without set up. Just spam magnitude or rock throw and you win.
Whitney can still get lucky with stomp flinch, but I basically carries the gym
Onix setup Defense Reduction via Screech (both in gen 2 and gen 4). Then The Ace (Physical Atk) comes in and clear that pink cow...
50k soon!!!
Heracross is such a goat
My favorite Pokémon is heracross so this pleases me
