    Zoe, Kathleen's Video Series is soo awesome!!! Thank you. I especially love how she touched on 75% of designers she knows didn't go to school and are successful. I've been learning how to do this on my own forever now and only started to produce work in the last 2ish years.

    Totally relate to Kathleen's love of getting lost in a pattern. It's a great feeling to see the puzzle you've been working on come to life exactly as imagined.Terrible for the back though once you realize you haven't moved in a long time because you've been staring at a computer screen for so long! Hahaha
    There are alot of people who come into the industry not willing to put in the time or work. I have had so many people saying that they want to learn a certain technique from me, but when I tell them exactly how to find the information to learn they never do. Of course, they always come back asking the same question without having done their homework and just want a free tutor who is going to hold their hand through the whole process. Um no thankssssss

      Zoe Hong Pattern making is my favorite part of designing. Even though I'm not taking pattern classes until next semester, I started snooping other students' pattern making porfolio. I already made my first pair of pants, which turned out pretty great. I want to keep making more challenging patterns to practice.

    I really learned a lot about what things to consider in apparel manufacturing. It is very sad that we do not have enough people to do factory jobs anymore. I suppose we will need to import people who can operate a sewing machine and manage production. Would love to go to apparel boot camp at some point. Thanks for sharing and teaching.

    She is such a fascinating person, I could listen to her on repeat because she holds so much valuable information and explains everything right to the point. I wish I could find such a mentor here in Canada:) Since I started watching your channel,I realized that I definitely don't have what it takes to be a great fashion designer but in the meantime I got really passionate about the business side of the fashion and issues present in the apparel industry. I'm so grateful for your interviews that made me realize this.You are the best!😊🐘

    Yet again, thank you Zoe for an amazing inteview! Kathleen is awesome, I really appreciate that she spent her time for the interview and even a tutorial that's coming up! I have learnt a lot from this interview. Also, this encouraged me to study patternmaking after I'm done with my fashion studies. I loooove patternmaking and this part was always one of my most favorite parts in design schools that I went to. For a few years now I found this part more interesting to me than designing (but I love that as well) and for a while I was thinking I should study patternmaking for MA. This really helped me to decide I really want to do this!

    27:40..... YES! I graduated from Fashion Design School in 2007. And halfway through.... I knew I didn't want to be a "Fashion Designer". And I came out and went back into retail. I felt defeated.... But I wasn't ready. I needed to grow up, Network, and develop clarity on who I AM. After battling Drug addiction and Depression, I am re-entering this world. Knowing my limits is KEY!

Love her attitude and when she showed her leather vest and jackets and basically talked leather it brought back old memories and I remembered a lot of things I thought I had lost when I had kids that sucked the smart out of me for the last 5 years but low and behold I've retained more than I thought. What part of Mathematics is important to learn for the fashion industry? Some obvious subjects are arithmetic, percentages, ratios, measurements, fractions, geometry, , calculus, trigonometry, temperature, heating & cooling, did I miss something ?
    Also, what software is used for design ? StyleCad ?

  • @melanietruth
    @melanietruth 7 лет назад

    Heck, I don't want to be an artist maybe I should be designer (just kidding) - but I always wonder how clothes can be designed - I like basic shapes - an A-line skirt is an A-line skirt and aside from colors and fabric and length and whether or not they have pockets or whether it zips up the front, the side or the back or has buttons..... - it seems to me the actual pattern is the same. Or given the structural elements as far as pockets and seams the pattern might vary - but by now hasn't the A-line skirt been done every way imaginable to the point an brand new original pattern for an A-line skirt isn't something any designer can "copyright" for lack of a better word. Needless to say, my experience with patterns and sewing is just enough to barely follow the conversation here! But the nuts and bolts of the unlovely process are interesting. Great video - thanks!
