I have a love for the Twin Snakes, even more so than the original Metal Gear Solid 1. Though I must admit, I didn't grow up with Metal Gear Solid, or PlayStation for that matter. I mostly stuck with Nintendo consoles and PC until 2007, when I got an Xbox 360 Elite. After playing Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and playing as Solid Snake, it motivated me to buy Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and finally dip my toes in the Metal Gear franchise back in 2010. Though I did see my younger brother play MGS4 back in 2009 when it was relatively new, our first foray into the franchise didn't start until at least three months later.

Someone once suggested that MGS:TTS was a retelling of the events from Otacon's perspective, as a 'tall tale'. So the over the top action was Otacon's way of describing Snake's antics to be like 'one of his animes'.

    • @carlosaugusto9821

Theorist babble nonsense. The reason is: Kojima directly authorized the director (who was suggested by himself iirc) to go all out with the cutscenes and make it totally in his own style, instead of respecting too much the line of the original. And that is an over the top guy. So that's the natural result. The end. Simple.

Idk why but I get the feeling collection 2 & even a 3 will have fewer games than C1 due to them requiring more work done as well as taking up more space on a disc.

Maybe they will have it, a lot of people are saying they will put 5 in it, but that won’t make sense, since that game is the most easy game to get platform wise. I don't think it'll ever happen. Basically a rule in the industry. Ignore specific versions of a game in compilations and/or remakes. Heck just look at Onimusha. When they remastered it, they used the PS2 version instead of the infinitely superior Xbox version with better balance, better game mechanics, more difficulty and an extra dungeon (called Genma Onimusha). There's tons of examples of these types of things throughout the years. There was a point in time when these niche versions of games did get attention and were included in compilations or used for remakes, but these days publishers/developers just pretend they never happened.
Also, this MGS collection is about as effortless as it gets in terms of actual games. It's okay on the bonuses front, but for the games themselves they put in the bare minimum of effort. Getting Twin Snakes running would require far more effort than they put into all of the games in the collection put together, so that's not gonna happen.

Twin snakes was a broken mess with all the heart and effort to atmosphere and tension removed. On paper it sounds great, but in reality all the new features brought over from mgs2 made no sense to have. They broke the level design so entire sections could be cut out by just jumping over a railing. Bosses could be cheesed with the mgs2 first person and movement. The tranq gun made no sense to have or use as it had no impact on the story whatsoever ever (it still killed people) and not to mention atmospheric stuff like the colour palet swap and sound track changes which were key design choices that made the original a genius masterpiece. Sorry bro, but this game is a derpy mess 😂

    • @carlosaugusto9821
      @carlosaugusto9821 4 месяца назад

@@robertcleminson9939 It could have worked but with gameplay adjustments, like careful selection of which mgs2 features to keep and which ones to leave out for the sake of balance. And changing the level design was also necessary. Which would take some of the nostalgia magic away of course... But it would be nothing but a safety measure to keep the game from breaking in a remake.

They completely destroyed a classic by copy and pasting game mechanics from a newer title without thinking of how it would impact level design and gutted all atmosphere the original cultivated by adding over the top cheesy cutscenes, changing the colour palet for no good reason and changing the soundtrack (the original sound track was more strategically designed than people realise)

There existed a set of cutscenes for this game, done by film director Ryuhei Kitamura, that match the original game with more dramatic and cinematic feeling. Hideo Kojima had them canned, he'd brought Kitamura on because he was a fan of his pulp action films and wanted that style of over the top action in the cutscenes. With those instructions, Kitamura went back into the project and went full ham, Kojima immediately loved and approved these new cutscenes and that's what we got in the final game.
Also, if you feel these cutscenes were over the top, you haven't seen anything, his own films are ridiculous. He's directed the live action 'Lupin the 3rd', 'Godzilla: Final Wars' (yes its the one that has Godzilla kill the 1998 American movie Godzilla in a curb-stomp battle) and my personal favorite 'Versus', which is about zombie vampire samurais with guns fighting over a girl, amongst many other films. Back in the mid-2000's, I'd always hoped he'd get picked up to do a live action version of 'S-cry-ed', as in his style with it's insane battle junkie main character, would have been a perfect fit.

So i hope they add it, in the Master Collection Vol 2. All the Metal Gear Games, are just amazing and i enjoy it a lot.

Maybe they could add Metal Gear Soild 4, Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2 or Metal Gear Rising: Revengance with all the DLC.

I'll keep shouting this out as I am a fan of both creators: I faintly remember reading somewhere (or it was rumored possibly) that Hideo Kojima had the cutscene direction of the Twin Snakes go to Ryuhei Kitamura, famously-known for directing the 2000 indie film "Versus" whom Hideo Kojima played an extra for. The film, is the closest thing to a live-action Devil May Cry that I've ever seen. And I adore the completely over-the-top presentations of the Twin Snakes as it had a special style to its own throughout the game. My thoughts on why it's not part-of the collection is because several MGS fans don't care for it, and the licensing through Nintendo may have had some entanglements to contend-with. An homage to Mario, Yoshi and a Gamecube dare not go without proper licensing, because Nintendo. Much like how there were licensing issues that delayed the reveal/release of the Master Collection as well as some parts were omitted from the collection because Konami was not able to obtain the licensing, depending if it was images of former programers as "ghosts" in the game or wartime footage. But yeah, I think we'd have a much better chance for Metal Gear Rising next-to Vol 2 than Twin Snakes.

Could definitely say the same for the Resident Evil games. And if they just like the remakes cause they look the best and play the best for them, that’s cool too, right?

But if you don't like Twin Snakes you definitely aren't a fan. As it is an MGS game. And Kojimas true vision for MGS1. They messed up his vision in the translation and dub for the Western release of the original MGS. So for Twin Snakes he fixed that. So Twin Snakes whether you like it or not, is the true vision of MGS1. And if you don't like it. How are you a MGS fan. Especially with how many people have actually played it. There's a lot of problems preventing Twin Snakes from seeing a rerelease. Not because we, Konami or Nintendo don't want to. But because Silicon Knights went bankrupt in 2014, and it's widely believed that the source code and development assets were lost in the process. Konami wasn't involved in its development, so they're not likely to have a copy of the source code and assets with them. Which means unless someone can reverse-engineer the game, the only other way to play it is to emulate the GameCube version.

I love Twin Snakes. But I gotta say, the PS1 version have waaaay superior voice acting. In the TS edition they had to re-record the voice acting. Eventhough almost everyone where back for the recording, the true feeling wasn't really there. You can easily hear the difference when doing a comparison. PS1 have much more depth and feeling in the acting and gives a much more emotional tone to the game. So whenever I want to re-experience the games I have to make a difficult choice, play for the feeling or feel like I am in control.

  • @ElricSowrd
    @ElricSowrd 5 месяцев назад +1

Yeah, I remember the poll. The original MGS1 was the only version of MGS1 available in Volume 1 and that's why I voted that's the Metal Gear I will be playing first.
I just wish that Master Collection would give us an option to play MGS1 in HD Resolution though. I've been clamoring for an HD Version of MGS1 since the PS3 era and now I've been robbed of this feature in the Master Collection. 😩
I like The Twin Snakes, I like the Remake having MGS2 Gameplay, but I have personal issues with the game: My BIGGEST GRIPE is that the visual looks dark compared to the Original and MGS2 that I can barely see, it doesn't look good. 😩
Some of the glitches kill the game: The camera near the stairs in the tank hangar always spot you no matter what you do, except if you use Chaff and if you get spotted even once you always get Alert 3 times, even if you Reset the game or die and exit.
And some of the cutscenes are ruined: the Original cutscene with the tower bridge was dramatic. After the bridge gets destroyed the Hind appears and Snake runs toward the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, but in Twin Snakes after the bridged is destroyed a metal debris flies towards Snake, Snake chucks a Grenade at it, WALK TOWARDS the handrail where you're supposed to use the Rope, the Hind appears and there's NO MORE DRAMATIC RUNNING!
And in the cutscene where Gray Fox dies, why does Snake scream his name before he gets crush?
Apparently the reason for the rerecording was not only for better recording quality because when the original MGS1 voice recording was imported to Gamecube, cars passing by could be heard in the background, but Kojima demanded that the dialogue be redone to be more close to his original work due to Jeremy Blaustein's fault for changing it. Especially Psycho Mantis's last words during his death. He intended to be "This is the first time I've ever used my power to help someone... It's strange... Such a nostalgic feeling..." due to the nostalgia of his mother giving birth to him.

It always confused me why the original HD Collection/Legacy Collection never featured that game in particular. I will admit I'm slightly biased for it because Ryuhei Kitamura (The director of Versus 2000/Ultimate Versus) did the CG cutscenes because I love his movies and had no idea that him and Kojima were actually friends.

To the smooth-brains in this thread that hate the cutscenes in Twin Snakes:
Hideo Kojima INSTRUCTED Silicon Knights to make the Cutscenes more crazy and action packed.
Literally, ANYONE that complains about over the top cutscenes in Twin Snakes is a fake fan. You're telling me that driving a motorcycle up Ocelot's face, doing a midair gun-slinging backflip off him, and peeling out up a staircase over the roof of a crumbling ruin and into the NON-EXISTENT RUSSIAN JUNGLE wasn't over the top? I mean, have you even played these games? Electrified bisexual Muscle-Man with a Boyfriend the spitting image of Raiden like 25 years before he's born, who can identify him by package squeeze, launches a HAND HELD NUKE INTO THE FOREST!?
Anybody pretending Hideo Kojima himself wouldn't have made MGS1 that absurd if the PS1 had the power to do it, is literally lying to themselves, LMAO! As if this guy has that kind of restraint!
Complain about the music being inferior, complain about some voice actors phoning in the new performances. Complain about the MGS2 mechanics neutering the challenge completely when applied to MGS1, with no other alterations to accommodate that. These are valid critiques. But the cutscenes? How media illiterate can people be?
    Good video Python!

  • @isntchrisl

I think this is probably a messy situation. Twin Snakes was developed by Silicon Knights, which was a 2nd party Nintendo developer at the time. Konami would want to get it on every port of Vol. 2 to avoid hurting the value proposition by only having it on the Switch/Switch 2 port. I'm guessing this would require a lot of cooperation from Nintendo to happen.

  • @spongebobfan78

3:28 They won't mind, but Nintendo definitely will. They don't allow any of their stuff appear in other platforms kinda like Rocket League's exclusive skins not appearing in other platforms. I think the only game where they missed is the JP version of Phantasy Star Online 2 where the BoTW stuff can be played on other platforms. If Twin Snakes was planned to be in a multi-platform collection, they would probably have to alter the Nintendo references outside the Switch version (or probably including that too so it'll be easier) to have it appear, and I doubt Konami will not take the lazy route and just exclude it entirely.

I'm afraid the video is missing one crucial detail: "The Twin Snakes" was partially produced by Nintendo.
This goes WAY beyond just an paid exclusive, being distributed by them, or even having plushies of Mario and Yoshi inside the game. It means that actual Nintendo employees WORKED DIRECTLY ON IT. Meaning that Konami would need to ask Nintendo for permission for re-releasing the game at all. Otherwise they would get in trouble. And there is no way in hell Nintendo is going to allow that game to be released on other platforms. And likewise, Konami is not gonna make a collection with an extra game that others platforms won't have, in order to avoid problems with Sony and Microsoft.
That having been said, that doesn't mean that a TTS remaster is completely out of the question. They could make it as a stand-alone remaster (as in, not part of any collection) exclusive to Nintendo platforms, which it would be the Switch successor at this point.

I think because silicon knights where the ones who made the game, they only made exclusive games for Nintendo, very few actually, eternal darkness and metal gear twin snakes. So the copyright is divided between the both companies, even when probably Nintendo must has a small piece of the copyright of this twin snakes games. So this means konami would had to pay to this company owners of the copyright, so probably Nintendo would want this game exclusive to the Nintendo switch, but konami probably want this game in all consoles, so it is impossible to release this game, because konami doesn’t want an exclusivity. Or at least that’s what I think, so it is just more easy to include the original PlayStation 1 version that they have the complete copyright and can do whaterever they want with that game.

I suspect the reason we haven’t seen Twin Snakes rereleased on other platforms is not because it was a Nintendo exclusive at the time, but rather the fact that it was a Nintendo co-production with Konami. Nintendo was actively involved in the making of this game with Konami. The developer of this game, Silicon Knights, were at the time a second party developer of Nintendo. That makes me wonder if that doesn’t affect the legalities behind rereleasing the game on other platforms. I believe the credits are loaded with Nintendo staff and Shigeru Miyamoto is listed as Executive Producer. Maybe it has no affect at all, but is unusual to me that this game has never gotten any kind of rerelease.

I could come up with six reasons.
    1) silicon knights were given the keys to the IP for this entry.
    2) Konami. They probably saw the numbers and were like "Clearly people like the original more so let's stick with that".
    3) Its source code may not have been preserved so the game may have been lost to time or good portions of it may still be gone.
    4) Missile jump.
    5) It wouldn't have fit on the game card for Switch. But in fairness the download file after putting the cartridge in was over 30 gigs.
    6) You think Konami not enhancing the PS1 original was bad? Imagine what treatment this would get. It would be a straight up conversion for modern consoles and you'd have the internet whipping out their pitchforks and torches for 60 fps and resolution options on a console.

I just finished playing through both MGS and TTS. Ryuhei Kitamura was the one contracted to direct the action scenes in TTS. I was familiar with with some of his films such as Versus and Azumi (Hideo Kojima actually had a cameo appearance in Azumi.) So i was excited about TTS. Bought a gamecube specifically for this one game. I rather enjoyed the over the top actions sequences. My biggest complaint was changing some of the dialogue. I realize the changes were supposed to be more like a direct translation from the Japanese script, and Kojima took offense to Jeremy Blaustein changing the dialogue to better suit western audiences. In my opinion, in the original, Snake delivers one of the greatest lines in video game history after finding the parachute in the snow field. "He'd be sliced up faster than an onion on an infomercial." I really missed that in TTS. I also found Jennifer Hale's performance subpar and Kim Mai Guest not having an accent was jarring at the time. They are still my favorite games, though! Combine both versions, I've completed them over 100 times.
