    2 of the BEST tractors I've ever run on a bigger /steep terrain heavy duty cattle ranch lifting gaurd rail, pipe, 2000lb plus roles of hay etc, has been a older 5420 with bigger tires and a 5100e literally pulled the equivalent Massey out of over the bank in a slick spot pulling a load of wood, pulled them both when the Massey wouldn't pull itself,. Took a 5x5 roll of hay on the front but the 5420 has been an absolute warrior and I will swear by John Deere due to that tractor and , it is 1.7 miles to our corral from the hardtop and when a pickup can't pull a load of hay in to our farm due to snow, I will meet them at the road with the 5420 with a heavy duty homade hitch on it and pull the gooseneck all the way in myself! Absolute tank of a tractor, can't flip it kill it or hurt it, has had fuel problems but I have it rigged to shut it off when not in use

    Personally, I own a Massey 2607H and love it... BUT I think anyone who has struggled with some expensive but relatively light weight compacts would feel like they made a great choice to step up into a utility class for the power/weight/ruggedness of the bigger tractors. I don't look for a Cadillac in a tractor, so the JD 5E open station was definitely on my comparison list. Good video!

      Yes, it can. You just want to make sure your tractor is properly ballasted. Rear wheel weights or a rear ballast box would be a good option.

    The buying public doesn’t need four JD model choices in the 5E three cylinders series, and another four models in the four cylinder series, not including M and R trim levels.
    Here my recipe for the perfect JD 5 series tractors. Redesign to include all the features that come with the Four Series M Trim Heavy Duty including four cylinder engine, LED light package, motion/speed/throttle/roll controls right hand fender. Add snail accelerator, SCV controls on fender, fuel tank by step, three point hitch Telescopic draft links, reverse ball cat 1&2, two rear SCVs, three forward SCVs, deluxe open station, premier seat with arm rests, and mechanical suspension, rear view mirror, power reverser transmission, fender extensions with added lighting. Eliminate E Series and have you entry level as M and loaded as R.

    I've been researching tractors for several weeks now and this is one of the most informative videos I've seen. I have been looking at the 5075E but today found out about the 5090EL/5075GL. Is there any reason that I would *not* want the smaller form factor? I have the normal hay field type paddocks on my property but I also have some woods that I would like to selectively thin for silvopasture and the smaller frame seems nice. Is there a downside?

    • @WesternEquipment

      We do not generally deal much with the "L" tractors just due to the openness and lack of application in our area, the only issue i could see would maybe be ground clearance. I would definitely have a conversation with your local dealer if these are a common tractor in your area! But we would love to hear about your experience if you decide to go with one! • @WesternEquipment

      Very true! I should have explained better. In general I higher lift capacity correlates with higher HP due to higher HP leading up to a bigger tractor with more hydraulic capacity!

      This depends on what exactly you will be doing with it. For loader work I would definitely suggest a power reverser. What is the biggest finish mower you can run on a 5 series 55 or 65e?

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  3 года назад

      so this really depends on the mower itself and the PTO HP that it requires. A 5055E averages around 40 PTO HP and a 5065E averages around 50 PTO HP. So on the John Deere/Frontier brand finish mowers you could pull up to a 20 ft. flex wing mower. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      My 5075E (no cab) pulls a Bushhog 2010 (10' wide, pull type, 2" brush rating) pretty well in average grass but if I'm in heavy matted grass or brushy CRP ground I'll still run out of power a bit earlier than I want. I'll gear down and continue mowing, but I do run short of power. When using my MX-7 mower (7' medium duty, 3 point mounted) I don't run out of power but I can tell it's about all the tractor can comfortably lift. I had a 6' wide, 3 point hitch Bushhog that I replaced with the MX-7. I think if I was doing it all over, I'd get the MX-6 for the 5075E. My farm is steeper ground so that certainly makes a difference. I don't think a person would be happy with a 5055E pulling a 10' mower, especially if you have a cab and the AC is sucking power like they do. My opinion, anyway. Thanks.

    !!!FALSE INFORMATION!!! This idiot says E stands for Economy base level tractor that is INCORRECT! The base model tractor will not have any letters behind the first 4 digits of the model. E designates if the tractor has an overdrive economy mode PTO which is a 1800 dollar upgrade. The economy mode PTO let's you turn your implements at 540 rpm while the engine RPM is 1400 instead of 2300 saves a lot of fuel and stress on your engine. Please correct your video.

      It all depends on the HP requirements for the mower.
