    [ONEPLUS WATCH 2 REVIEW]
“If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it."
But seriously: I respect anyone who comes back to the plate after striking out, and the OnePlus Watch 2 is such an improvement over the original that I'd have forgiven the company for dropping the "2" from the name entirely, and pretending the first generation never existed. This is a solid smartwatch driven by some great ideas, at a price point that makes sense.
Thing is: some of those great ideas came from Google (which means we’ll soon see them on other watches) and there are enough app oddities - and compelling competition - to give me a little bit of pause when it comes to this Wear OS watch.

I'm glad a reviewer finally said what I was thinking about the non-functional spinning button. As soon as I heard that it didn't do anything, and the excuse was "it makes it more durable," I was calling BS. Why does it have the knurling which is standard on any digital crown for easier spinning? They definitely had bigger plans for that thing.

They definitely could have paired some features to the spinning. However a spinning crown would be more lenient to accidental bumps and scrapes, as it doesn't put as much stress on the component.

Cost comparisons are so tricky. Not only are they outdated within weeks (the TicWatch Pro 5 has fluctuated by as much as £100 in the last few days), but often you can get these devices for far less, if you're smart about it. I had to return my £229 TicWatch and was able to buy the OPW2 with free OP Buds 3 using coupons and such with preordering, and STILL had change left over.
I've had mine for a few days now and in my use case, it's just pipping the TicWatch Pro 5 for battery life. I guess if you don't use it all the time, the benefits of the second processor outweigh not having to turn on an OLED screen. Generally is just a nicer watch all round than the TWP5 too, minus the rotating crown of course.

4:14 The charger that you can plugg in a USB-C is what we need.
Cut back on separate cables and just use your one existing USB-C cable.
(Even better smart swatches to have USB-C ports either on the watch or the wrist band so nothing else is needed)

Yes, Meister Mobile, Michael, you are the king of narration... Another well-written video, or was it off the cuff? Great review. The OnePlus Watch 2.0 is on my left wrist now. Without AOD enabled I'm at 52% battery life, with 2 days & 3 hours left. Yeah, it was charged to 100% last night at 18:49. Okay, I did use the GPS for two workouts today for nearly two hours. I still need to give the "Power Saver" mode more testing. I was shocked to learn that O-Heath is not backing up my data in March 2024. Thanks for the entertaining, and information review.

The point of battery saving on a smartwatch is A) To tell the time for longer, and B) having a backup cellular device should yours die. Very useful for outdoorsy types.

My previous smartwatch was a Fitbit sense. I loved Fitbits until the sense started burning my wrist while sleeping (or sweating). The burn came from the charging ports. After that incident, wireless charging on smart watch is a must have for me when choosing one.

Very cool. I was intrigued when this watch was announced. I like what Google is doing with wearOS to get more battery life out of these devices. It's just hard for me to justify moving away from the Samsung offerings. All my health tracking data is in there since I've had Galaxy Watches for a couple generations now. And my Watch5 Pro gets close to 3 days of battery life for me already anyway (usually 2 days, 10 hr).
I think if I were to switch away from Samsung today, it'd be to move over to Garmin. Their health and sleep tracking is better. And since they've started to put AMOLED touch screens in their newer watches, they seem to feel more like actual smart watches today than the general fitness trackers they used to feel like. I have a Forerunner 945 that I like well enough but I only ever put it on when running. No touch screen and the watch feeling so damn light on my wrist make it a non-starter for a daily wear for me.

I guess if you require Wear OS, the battery life of 3-5 days is "good". My $35 Amazfit can do most of what these watches can do and lasts 2 weeks (and it's predecessor, which used a TFT display, lasted about 9 weeks when new, only reducing to about 5 weeks 4 years later). The price and battery life has spoiled me, forever precluding me to spend hundreds for watches that only last a few days.

From what I've heard, they can last for similarly as long on a single charge, but the oneplus watch has promised 2 years of OS softwares, and you can't be that sure with tickwatch from what I've heard. You are not completely right that ideas came from Google. The idea is from Oppo to include messages on low power chip and Google added it to WearOS working closely with them. Apart from messages other things running on low power chip are available to other OEMs but they choose not to use them because it is easier for Samsung to release almost the same watch every year instead of innovating by creating a better and more efficient OS. The problem I feel with using the touchscreen is I would likely accidentally click on a notification I didn't want to click on. With the TicWatch 5 Pro I can scroll through without accidentally clicking on anything. I'm tempted to jump ship from TicWatch and get a OnePlus Open and OnePlus Watch 2 but...there are compromises with both of those over the Samsung counterparts. Rotating crown does nothing on OnePlus Watch 2, and OnePlus doesn't really have a Dex counterpart.

@@kingzach74 The screen is large enough. Scrolling comfortably is not an issue at all and I have big hands. On a small screen like the Pixel watch, a rotating crown is a must. 👍

I'm getting 3-4 days out of this watch regularly WITH AOD ON. It's pretty remarkable. Thankfully my wrists are big enough for it cause, well, it's a beast. Anyone else find the haptics pretty weak? I find I miss a good deal of notifications due to weak haptics. Otherwise though, pretty steller timepiece.

Its still WearOS so no matter what they do - it will be meh. Yeah, it may be better then its used to be, but Google dropped the ball years ago. Smartwatches are generally not usefull as they were thought to be - and WearOS make the few things its actually usefull for even more complicated then they needed to be. I will wear my applewatch, till the day it dies(while my other smartwatches gather dust), but i am not so sure about buying an real replacement afterwards. Cheap fitness tracker have majority of functions one actually uses on smartwatch, but for small part of the price. But yeah, they look not as good as full size watches.

The argument that its more durable is actully true because you do not need to have something to fix the position which could wear out over time or get stuck and its cheaper to make it that way

For what it does and I use, I'm very pleased with this watch........more so than the Classic 6 I got and likely I'll be selling the Classic 6 and buy another OnePlus for work, so if I bet it up, it won't hurt. For $249 is a bargain and fits better on the wrist than the Classic 6 47mm.

As someone who prefers Apple's smartwatch hardware design (I mean seriously, why would you even want a *smart* watch of all things to be anything other than a square display? A round display just wastes space for anything that isn't in the exact center of the display. Plus, a square display just looks better imo)
But even so, I can still appreciate this hardware, it *looks* utterly gorgeous! My only issue is idk if this is anything I'd buy, I've never had a smart watch so maybe I don't know what I'm missing out on, but I just want a smartwatch for basically keeping track of my exercising, and maybe listening to music to display to the watch instead of constantly pulling out my phone to switch tracks.
That's it. It's one of those things where I think I need to buy into a cheapo smartwatch, see what other functionality there is, and maybe I will find the hook that makes it seem worth it to spend 200, 300 on a smartwatch (which seems utterly ridiculous at the moment when my current phone is going on 4 years, having been bought at about $300)
I wish I knew what major brands are creating smartwatches in the sub-$100 range, which don't look utterly horrible and cheap and tacky.
