I definitely remember the old days when the main differentiator between phones was their form factor rather than their functionality. But for average people like me, I'm happy with a phone that has a decent camera.
Both these products were rushed to market so that they can still actually sell - thats before consumers finally realize LLMs don't magically mean that computers have become sentient.
The number of people hoovered up by the "AI" marketing talk is depressing. An uncle of mine who worked in software development told me about the distinction when I talked to him about the military's efforts to make self-driving viable for self-driving combat vehicles... he wanted me to understand the difference between a fancy algorithm and something self-aware, and the vast gulf between pretend and the real mccoy has never been clearer with recent large-language models. Awww. Bless the sweet Kitteh. Nice one Michael. We are happy to have you back. Happy to see you smile. And happy to see the two side kicks who now make the dynamic trio healthy. Here is to seeing you Mobile again.
The fact that so many people bought the r1, is evidence that there is a demand/need for something that will do what rabbit was supposed to do. We all want a personal assistant, like Jarvis, ask it stuff, tell it to do things, and ideally eventually have its own personality, customizable voice and maybe even a talking face if you like. I know Rabbit was not supposed to do those things but it is what the final goal should be. Imagine, just telling your assistant while driving, to call the office and tell them you will be late due to traffic. and it does that using its own voice, if the Ai is smart enough it would even estimate how long it will take for you to get there by referencing gps data, speed etc. I know something like this maybe a few years away, was hoping R1 would be the first baby step in that direction.
The "we are bored" point hits right home for me. I was big into tech and smartphones for years and aside from the few odd ones, the same-y nature of pretty much all products come out really makes us want more quirky and "fun" stuff like these... But as they say, "This ain't it, Chief." At least for now.
I paused the video at 0:39 to read the script. My man has the best scripts out of any Tech RUclipsr. Your writing skills are so good I whish I could read blogs written by you.
Thanks for adopting! We adopted 2, and 8 dogs (lost one to a snake and the other to a horse - heartbreaking), and we foster as well. The first 2 fosters were meant to be cat friendly - not! My cats retreated to the roof and it was 2 months before the big cat cornered each one seperately and beat them up. The third foster doggy has just come in, and he's scared if the cats look at hum but will chase them if they run. Luckily they have sanctuaries all over rhe garden and house that dogs can't get to. Congrats for learning to give injections! Especially to a cat! We have to wrap our 2 in towels just to administer their spot on tick and flea medication. Hope he recovers fully🙏🙏
I wish you and your kitties the best of luck and health for many years to come. I love cats and seeing tugboat clean your hand was the sweetest thing I've seen this week 😊
Glad to hear your kittys are getting better. About 2 months ago I adopted a pair of tuxedo kittens from a NYC rescue foster agency. As luck would have it. within a week. Both came down with Calisivirus. One requiring emergency hospitalization. They're both better now. But I totally know what you're dealing with. It can be tough and very costly. They're lucky to have you. There are too many heartless people out there.
You were away for a month on all the good reasons, dear Michael. That you are a loving, nurturing, kind person to those sweet animals and you do your responsibilities. It's good to see that side of a person from time to time. Wish you and the cats all the best and a happy ending after the treatments.
Pleased to see your R1 and Playdate sitting next to each other. Even if you don’t make a video on it, I’m hardly surprised you’d have a Playdate. I’m thoroughly enjoying mine. Best of wishes for you and the kitties, family always takes priority over work. We watch your channel for the quality, not the frequency.
When I saw the humane pin and the rabbit I predicted that they were going to be terrible. Neither are necessary and both could be a phone app. They both do way less than a phone and we don't need more gadgets in our pockets.
You don't realise that with how good your videos are we'd wait forever for a new one. You've got important things to do in life so crack on as you need. We'll always be here.
I appreciate the transparency in your reporting and the delay. Definitely a stand out among the RUclips channels. Fingers crossed for alls well that ends well 🤞
You are just one of the most amazing people to exist on this planet. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen anything from you for a while and the fact that you even bothered to explain something you didn’t have to, plus the actual reason you were away, just speaks to your overall character as a person, not to mention the ethical way you run your channel. You’re an awesome dude, MrMobile
Michael's storytelling and his voice over are excellent, I'd say the best in tech reviewers. His style of testing it on the road, living his daily life, gives a practicle perspective unmatched by others. His criticisms and praises are relevant for general users as well as technical. His videos arrive later than others but I think that works perfectly, because you learn theory from other reviews and practicle from Michael's. Cherry on top, you get to see a travel video whike you're watching a tech review!!
I don’t blame you in the least for wanting new things to succeed and being disappointed when they don’t come out the way they were imagined. We’re in a tech malaise, it may be useful to learn how that era was handled by the automotive industry.
Cute kitty hope she recovers from whatever is ailing her. I have had to do eye drops, ear drops but never injections; I'd be really worried about doing something like that. Good job pushing through to help your steampot become well again.
Dear Mr. Mobile, Please make a When Phones Were Fun episode featuring the Sony Ericsson W960i. It is an amazing phone and a good audio player even in 2024. I love the scroll wheel.

Great video as always, and glad to hear that your cat is on the mend. Pretty sure people who appreciate your work know that if you're taking a break it's for a good reason. Take care of the things you need to, we'll all be here when you come back.
Who knew we'd have an update on your kitty cat during the review of something called the Rabbit... But here we are. Glad to hear Mr. Mobile and Mr. Kitty are doing well again!
Bless you for the time spent with the cats. Having two myself and driven to Italy to collect one from the UK during the pandemic I know how much we love them.
I hope your cat will be feeling much fine now. I myself have few cats and few more as a temporary house. Just out of curiosity, was this sickness called FIP. Because judging by the length of curation it sounds like something like that terrible sickness.
So sorry that your cat is dealing with some illness. I've had cats, who needed serious medical attention and I know how hard and taxing on our emotions it can be. I'm glad he has a good friend like you.
I agree about boring gadget, but why nobody complaining about it? Why do people still buying those boring gadget? Are people doesn't really care about design anymore and keep buying things to keep them self "up to date"? I miss early 2000-2010 when every phone even smartphone in that day has unique design and features in every single model. When phones were fun series from this channel is the most series I love, thank you for making those series. Your story telling are always amazing.
Mr Fisher, RUclips is a sea with which we all bathe in regularly. I have wondered occasionally why I haven’t seen a vid posted by you, but I chalked it up to a busy schedule for yourself, and always move along anticipating your next screed on tech. Hearing about Schteampot made me very sad, but knowing he’s getting better, I’m much happier for you and hope the little charmer will be just fine rather soon. Keep up whatever good work you can, and as you like to say: Stay mobile, my friend!
As someone who has never heard of this product until this video, I will say the same thing I have said about the AI Pin (which I guess is similar): I'm still not understanding what these products "do" in a "what problem is this addressing?" sense. I understand the smartphone and what issues it addresses. When I'm driving to work and my CarPlay setup automatically redirects me to avoid traffic, that's a clear use of technology to make my life better. But with things like this, I always go back to "what does this product do that can't be done with another product, and how is this product going to provide a tangible benefit to me?" I feel the same way about Vision Pro. These products are interesting, but I feel until they can truly answer those kinds of questions, they will always feel more like toys and not anything you need.
Thanks for all your work over the years and I know how stressfull it can be not posting something as a creator myself but you can count me in on always watching your videos, no matter how much time you need to create. And hope your kitty gets well soon. :)
Your storytelling has granted me many years of life through your technologies eyes. I'm glad the treatments are panning out well, and I'm happy to say you swayed me to a new laptop finally. So I too can Stay Mobile.
As a longtime fan since the Pocketnow days, and a cat owner myself, take all the time you need. Our companions should be our priority and the audience you’ve built is the kind that values you as a person, not just a tech reviewer. Very glad to hear Steampot is looking like they’ll be okay 😻
We had to endure the same hardship for 7 long months; but was not lucky. I pray your beloved cat gets well soon. BTY, I love your storytelling; exceptional indeed.
Love the storytelling in this vid, it’s crazy how much the tech industry has taken a page from gaming: making vastly underbaked products and selling them at top dollar, promising to finish them later. In gaming, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. In tech, I see it being far less successful because of the barrier to entry not to mention the massive spotlight on these companies at large. I wish we got more complete products again. Edit: wishing you the best with your kittens! They’re so cute and it’s worth the wait to more vids if it means SteamPot gets better!
Speaking of gimmick phones, I've been maining a Palm PVG100 phones. I've learned of you use it as intended it's great, but one can not use it as a main phone in a traditional manner. I would love it to be 2x the size.
These are the kind of videos that MKBHD needs to do. There's history, there's context, there's the journey of how we got to where we are with items. Instead he gives trash tier reviews that I can get from ChatGPT. Wonderful review as always, glad to here the kitten is doing better :)
You are a good man. That is what matters, all rest is secondary. I love gadgets, I love tech and I agree.. This is all complete shit for many years now and nothing compares the rush of the old days when phones were fun. Flawed but fun. I will keep watching your videos, not for the reviews since I honestly dont need those, I am well into tech to know for myself what I want and what I need. I enjoy the high quality of production of your videos, I find your voice to be pleasant for my ears but most important I agree with your views in general and you always seemed like a decent bloke. Now I am sure of it and I will continue to support you with my sub, views and likes. I still hope for the day to come when something new, something next, something.. will bring back the old spark.. and no, I dont think the foldables are it. Stay good. Kind regards from Austria.
I hope the beautiful baby keeps progressing and healing up. Your audience loves you and understands the delay, take the time you need and we will be here waiting. All love

I SO wanted the R1 to be better. And am still rooting for it! Like you, I love the interesting form that’s not boring. Wishing a speedy recovery for your cat!
I don't comment on youtube as I rarely see a reason to get a comment lost in the thousands of comments on videos. But I appreciate you bringing the personal side to the video. I'm glad to support your videos with likes and watches. I always enjoy your videos and opinion and just want to say thank you and keep up the great work.
The "it's just an android app" argument is annoying, games can be just an android app, but the switch or steamdeck are better. Ebooks are available on your phone, but a tablet or kindle is better. Is this better than a phone in hardware? Maybe not, but the hardware category of an AI device should be looked into. I know I would love their promises in an actual small toy-like robot.
I feel like the implementation here is the weak part, not necessarily the fact that its somewhat silly on paper to run a separate android device for an app. Even if it was just an app, the thing just doesn't work all that well, unlike the steam deck which valve spent years refining gaming on Linux before they made it into a "windows games will probably run as long as they don't use anticheat". I'm pretty sure that SteamOS is much lighter than Android, owing to the fact that mainline Linux just not being all that heavy (using an Arch Linux machine with 8gb of RAM to type this, where a windows or macOS machine would struggle to keep usage under 8 under similar conditions).
Well yes but no. The steam deck etc. have better controls, performance, batteries compared to phones. You can still use them for other things than gaming, like a laptop. The rabbit has worse battery, controls, performance than a phone and it can only use that one app. In conclusion, the rabbit doesn't benefit in any way from being it's own device, in fact it is worse for it.
Glad to hear your cat will be okay.

Wishing you and your FIP baby much success! My cat is on four years post treatment and is doing great. Sending y'all love!
One of the few people on RUclips whom I have continuously watched since the beginning. All the respect, bro. Keep up the spirit.
The rabbit is just a app that can be installed on android.
You don't realise that with how good your videos are we'd wait forever for a new one. You've got important things to do in life so crack on as you need. We'll always be here.
5:20 Yes, it's a toy.
- What else are they gonna market to 20-40 year olds who don't know what growing up & having a family means?
I love how you tell the STORY of a product, rather than just the specs like everyone else!
Bravo! 👏🏻
Cute kitty hope she recovers from whatever is ailing her. I have had to do eye drops, ear drops but never injections; I'd be really worried about doing something like that. Good job pushing through to help your steampot become well again.
Hang in there Michael. I wish for a speedy recovery.
Wishes of great recovery to the kitty!
Out-of-topic questions, but are you using pixel fold and Samsung internet?
thats weirdest combo i have ever seen
11:24 best surprise 😲 ever!
Congratulations 🎊 Mr Mobile
Dear Mr. Mobile,
Please make a When Phones Were Fun episode featuring the Sony Ericsson W960i. It is an amazing phone and a good audio player even in 2024. I love the scroll wheel.
Michael - your dedication to your furry friends is as heartwarming as your videos are entertaining. Always care for those you love before all else! Take care!
Cleo (my Siamese kitty) meowed when she heard about Steampot. Her & I wish him the best! Our cats are like family and they come first.
I think this is probably one of the best representations of how vibrant the R1 is, especially the comparison next to the cone
Welcome back glad youre cat is doing well now
I LOVE the 'Dave2D' take - "IF you remove the scroll wheel, place 2 volume buttons on one side, make the screen a little larger..." 😉🤣🤣 😎🇬🇧
Taking care of the kittys is the best reason! Looking forward to more on the way but take as long as needed to make sure the fluff babies are ok
Nice to see Hayato still around
And happy to know your kitty is doing well!
Glad the kitties are getting better love your videos michael timing is nothing to worry about just great to see you still going
May your cat get well soon Michael. I have a dog and I know the feeling.
03:38 - "Heartbroken at how undercooked..." You mean.. 'Overcooked' with some experiencing hot/red chest marks? 😏🤣🤣🤣 😎🇬🇧
Wishing a very speedy recovery to the kitty 🙏
Mr Mobile. The Go-to tech reviewer who tells a story instead of just doing a boring review.
I hope the beautiful baby keeps progressing and healing up. Your audience loves you and understands the delay, take the time you need and we will be here waiting. All love
Michael, I've been a subscriber since 2018, and I absolutely adore how seamlessly you weave stories into your mobile reviews! Sending well wishes to your cat for a speedy recovery. Once she's back to her lively self, including a short clip of her in your future videos would be heartwarming for all of us to see!"
Totally agree. I find the "why isn't this an app" question overused and oversimplified.
Take all the time you need. We will be here waiting for your amazing content. We love you man :)
All the best and speedy recovery for your cat ❤.
