"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

Bob Weir once said "Easy Wind is one of the coolest tunes we ever played."
That's why I like this album best Easy Wind and Jerry and Pigpen heavy.
Definitely in my top 3
I totally agree with that statement by Bob. Easy Wind, along with St. Stephen and The Eleven from Live Dead, turned me on to the band. At 45 years now, they've been my favourite band since I was 18.
SO WHY DID YOU STOP PLAYING IT!!!!
@@marksaltveit Yeah!! Great point!! I first figured that perhaps it could've been out of respect to Pigpen, but then of course they sure played the shit out of "Turn on Your Love Light" during the '90's (and they certainly never did that song - or very many other songs - any service when they played it at the end of their career as the The Grateful Dead. I remember hearing it at the Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit and I thought it was weak.
Easy Wind and New Speedway Boogie are my favorite Dead songs
The newly released AOXOMOXOA album was a gift from a gf in late '60s. I'm glad I cherished them both. Still have the LP and the memories. Workingman's Easy Wind mimicked my well drilling life.
Shared drilling tower tales in Louisiana this year.
That man was some piece of work. I can close my eyes and see him standing up there singing this song. 50 years. Seems like yesterday.
I have heard older deadheads, like guitar player Kenny Vaughan(Marty Stuart), say they lost interest or stopped going when Pigpen left the spotlight.
It's a trip because I don't really know the Pigpen fronted band. Heard it. But, I mean, listening to the tapes doesn't give the entire picture and feel of the band.
When I was a kid I thought,
"Wow! Is that what he did before he joined the band--that guy was a bad-ass-dude"
I mean, I can see him doin it
Easy wind 🎉❤
Pigpen kind of got lost a bit when the dead started going a little psychedelic, him being heavily blues influenced.
That’s really a shame!, so much talent.😢 working man’s dead, and American beauty are my two favorite dead albums.😊
Killer harmonica..thanks Pig
Only 2k likes wow ,one of my faves, pigpen wow, nailed it
This album and “American Beauty” in the same year! My Gosh!! And the absolute amazing difference between the two. This album is so totally stripped down raw Dead. Sounds great ✌️☮️🎸
My all time fave GD song, RIP Pigpen
This is without question, my all time favorite Dead track!!!!
Same here bro..
best line ever "gotta find a woman be good to me, she won't hide my liquor try to serve me tea " I've loved this song since I was a teenager....but now that I'm a 50 year old married man, I still love it but it has a whole new meaning for me.
Pigpen best blues singer to Ever come out of Frisco
Pigpen was a great loss for the overly mellow rest of the Grateful Dead.
My favourite Dead song of all time! You can feel the blood sweat and tears of the blue collar man on this one!
That is the truth Leah!
Pigpen is the man!
By far the best Dead album. Wow, it's been 50 frikken years....."where does the time go"
My favorite is blues for Allah
This is one of the best things to happen during the quarantine, never knew how long awaited this was, killer fuckin jam
Seriously, you never heard this tune before quarantine?
@@Jupiterbotz I've loved the dead for about 3-4 years now its just the cherry on top with the timing of the release
Hahaha! Yes! The bus ride just gets better and better!
Best Pig Song. Hands Down.
Best there is right hear.
my favorite Dead album.
Yes
Easy wind, love light; and I need a miracle in no particular order. Love me some gritty dead.
wow they REALLY brought out the instruments but managed to keep Pigpen as a focal point i love it!
True San Fransisco Grit! Fogerty/CCR wish list music! RIP Pigpen Ron.
love every song on this album
"while my rider hide my bottle in the other room"...if only she d hid it a lil better.
My rider started hiding my keys under my local AA meeting schedule.
Ha ha
Saw the Nighthawks do this back in the late 70's after Pigpen died; I forgot how good McEarnen was and influential to the direction of the band!
Great song 😎❤
I been balling a shiny black steel jack-hammer
Been chippin' up rocks for the great highway
Live five years if I take my time
Ballin' that jack and a drinkin' my wine
I been chippin' them rocks from dawn till doom
While my rider hide my bottle in the other room
Doctor say better stop ballin' that jack
If I live five years I gonna bust my back, yes I will
Easy wind cross the Bayou today
Cause there's a whole lotta women, mama
Out in red on the streets today
And the rivers keep a talkin'
But you never heard a word it said
Gotta find a woman be good to me
Won't hide my liquor try to serve me tea
Cause I'm a stone jack baller and my heart is true
And I'll give everything that I got to you, yes I will
Easy wind going cross the Bayou today
There's a whole lotta women
Out on the streets in red today
And the river keep a talkin'
But you never heard a word it say

Thanks, didn't know some of those.
I guess it's a good thing Pigpen didn't do all that ....But if you told me he did, I would totally believe it.

Who ever puts a thumbs down on this isn't a real dead head!
Couldn't agree more. This has been one of my favorites since I jumped on the bus in the 80's
you're right, they're not a "Dead-Head" rather they're just a "Dick-Head!" lol.
Maybe a real brain dead head
Love this song
For those using this as a place to post negative comments about people's political opinions.....Can we please have just one place online where we all just get along and love one another regardless of our individual political opinions....what better place to just love each other is there than a Dead Chat.
Thank you
Trump 2024 love the Dead pigpen even more
How about you set up a Nowhere Land for us and we’ll all go there, hmmm? We can make our nowhere plans for nobody and listen to the Dead and umm other bands of note.
Excellent idea
Epic tune that in my opinion got overshadowed by Casey Jones, but then as they say... you just can't have one without the other.
HOLy SHMOKES.. cheers 😎
As i listen to this i am drinking whiskey and playing red dead redemption 2
Who in the world disliked this
TheWokeClam the doctor
@@jahsehonfroy4893 LMFAO!!!
Yeah! Goddamn right!
Pig Could sing like no other
✌ ☮ & ❤ 🌎
Are there two drummers on this song? or a drummer and a percussionist? This is one incredible rhythm section- the bassist is totally groovin on this, wish it were a little more in the mix. Wish this song was out a couple years earlier, it would have been phenomenal on the the "Easy Rider" sound track. Would be a great cover for the Allman Brothers or Lynard Skynyd.
Allman brothers cover a few dead songs but the dead is the dead
Yes, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart
👍
"PIGPEN" was the only singer with the DEATH that could really sing ...
Pigpen was 💙
🌈🌱🙏❤️💛💚🤸
Yup
I like this tune
almost beefhearty
Pigpen was in the wrong band. He was too bad ass for the dead.
Never contract to do business, with a woman who claims to be God.
Jews don't generally break rocks. Am I right?
Well, I’m Jewish, and I’ve broken a few rocks in my day…
Who were the nine losers who gave this a thumbs-down? Probably Trump supporters!
