"This was, sort of, stepping out of our spacesuit and coming down to Earth and putting on a pair of Osh Kosh and digging the furrows ... we would have to bring the music in, to support the texts: Hunter's Holy Grail" - Mickey Hart
The three-CD set featuring the original album with newly remastered sound, plus an unreleased complete concert recorded on February 21, 1971 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY.
The show was mixed from the 16-track analog master tapes by Jeffrey Norman at Bob Weir’s Marin County TRI Studios and mastered by Grammy® Award-winning engineer, David Glasser, along with restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes.
If it's vinyl you're after, the WORKINGMAN’S DEAD: 50th ANNIVERSARY VINYL PICTURE DISC, limited to 10K, and Dead.net exclusive colored vinyl has just 2000 copies available. Both feature the newly remastered version of the original album.

When they introduced and toured this new album, I was at Fillmore East NYC to see it! Phil played bass most of the night in a big arm less rockin chair! The opening act was The Allman Bros. and the Fillmore was half empty! Pig Pen was still alive and played harp and Hammond Organ and did a vocal or two!

I am so jealous. Trying to paint a mental picture of the scene, and all I can come up with is myself in front of a young Jerry, with a smile on my face so big my checks hurt. Did I capture it pretty well? I think I did.

When I hear people talk about catching 1970's dead, or the really lucky ones who caught 60's dead, it is almost too much for my brain to process. I am, admittedly and proudly, an absolute, over the top, dead fanatic, and seeing them in an intimate venue in their early years would be too amazing to describe. I spend so much time just contemplating it, and it really kills me that I can never experience that.

Please don't dominate the rap, Jack
If you've got nothing new to say
If you please, go back up the track
This train's got to run today
I spent a little time on the mountain
I spent a little time on the hill
I heard some say better run away
    Others say better stand still
Now, I don't know but I been told
It's hard to run with the weight of gold
Other hand, I have heard it said
It's just as hard with the weight of lead
Who can deny? Who can deny?
It's not just a change of style
One step done and another begun
And I wonder how many miles

But I think in time we will
Now, I don't know but I was told
In the heat of the sun a man died of cold
Keep on coming or stand and wait
With the sun so dark and the hour so late
You can't overlook the lack, Jack
Of any other highway to ride
It's got no signs or dividing lines
And very few rules to guide
I spent a little time on the mountain
I spent a little time on the hill
I saw things getting out of hand
    I guess they always will
Now, I don't know but I been told
If the horse don't pull you got to carry the load
I don' know, whose back's that strong
Maybe find out before too long

The dead are the bomb. I also fell in love instantly in high school to the wonders of American Beauty and Europe 72, which are still two of my all time favorites. The last show I saw was deer creek 95, and although there was alot of mixed feelings about the gate crashing, I was on three gel tabs and thought the show was amazing. They played so many of the songs I really wanted to hear, and when I was peaking they dropped into new Speedway and I was so happy, it was so intense and has always been one of my all time favorites, what a night!

I caught a new speedway boogie once out of the ten shows I saw, the very last time I saw them, and let me tell you...it was so intense. The memory that stays with me is the wind blowing Jerry’s hair around as he nailed the verses down, so amazing. I couldn’t stop playing it for about a month afterwards and always will have a special place in my heart. I also had a near religious experience seeing them play box of rain. They locked down the groove so hard that it felt as if the whole crowd were swinging in sync with the band, so bad ass.

"I don't know, what I've been told." ...Despite Garcia was responsible for hiring the Hells Angels for Altamont, but heyyy... wtf do we know? Selective memory Jerry?

@@douglast3410 I'm not saying Jerry should have taken responsibility for the stabbing and everything that happened at that concert. But do own up to the fact the 'invitation' was made by him to attend this 'party', as such in this interview below, he's nervous, and trying to compare apples and oranges here, sort of pivoting away from the fact that it was his idea, and that he took the initiative to make it happen, the Hell's Angels as being security at this concert, plus $500 in beer, deal made, see you at the show kind of thing. Garcia never owned up to this I feel, not in this song, not after the concert. I don't even think Jerry admits to it being wrong they never played the concert in the first place, Phil admits it was the wrong idea not to take the stage at Altamont, just made the crowd more aggravated with no music for hours prior to night time. But that's beside the point. I know you guys look up to Garcia as a musician/songwriter, etc. but, take some responsibility for your ideas and actions, just a little. He made a mistake, we make mistakes ... own up to it then. ruclips.net/video/SzvUgR4CRvE/видео.html

@@AugustMedia had the hells angels ever killed someone at a concert before? thats the whole point of the song. it happened, it was terrible, the feeling of guilt was the same no matter what they did next and they were moving forward because thats all they knew.
