- Hi! This is my first tutorial, and maybe the first of many... I like to think these tutorials will be useful for people looking to play these songs on an acoustic guitar without the support of other instruments and without the concern of having to learn a specific part of any band member etc etc...just trying to convey the song across with a guitar and a voice.
The original cover version of this one is here • New Speedway Boogie - ...
Holler in the comments if there's other songs you'd like to see a similar tutorial for. Or if you think these tutorials are garbage. Take a swing through my other videos for songs you might want to pull from as well.
Thank you! - Спорт
I did check myself and that F# "should" be a D but still sounds ok to me :) and my quoted "E9" is just an E7. Oops! Call me out still, its fun for all.
Why is this man so humble? This is the coolest shit I’ve seen. A man with his acoustic feel his way through a dead song and match the grooviness while doing it in his own style. Leave some for the rest of us brother.
Thank you sir banana face! I bet if I was better at the guitar I’d be less humble ;) maybe.
This was great! I have to admit, the beginning when you were talking could have been shortened. But, once you got in to the song, I couldn’t stop. Very well done!!
Thank you and I’m glad it was helpful. I rolled with a “this is also a welcome to how I’m approaching this” bit so i didn’t focus too hard. Noted for the eventual next one! “Elevator pitch” on its way ;)
Thanks again!
How bout a Black Muddy River tutorial?
I (we?) can use your guidance to get across that. So fun!
Nice suggestion! I’ll add it to the list of requests and maybe get to it once my son gets back in the school year routine! Thank you!
Dig your style Man. Great presentation....great job on a great song.
Thank you!
Outstanding lesson. Thank you!
@@paulnolan2123 thank you!
You got any simple ways to practice/muscle memory on barre chords, you explain things well..I have also found the extra string hitting out a problem..only 2 months in with learning 52 left it late but love the sound and I love not perfect sometimes it is the only way ! Well taught man!👏
Thank you! The bar chords to me are muscle memory extending from the open chords they travel up the neck from, the hardest part for me was learning the root note up and down the neck to know where things are supposed to sit. When you say "muscle memory" are you talking about the chord shapes or where on the neck to go or both?
And the extra strings hitting out...that's in relation to how much I emphasized palm muting with the right hand?
@miraclejohan both and honestly people say that strumming is simple from the pick to grades of sizes I'm using a0.46mm light strings on accoustic learning myself (slowly)
Palm muting strumming is ok holding/muting the strings but putting it into playing is difficult I can hold G D E eminor a minor A
Struggle with C F changes. Trying power chords from you tube songs ie stained outside. Can you suggest a simple practice session for chord change/progression and a basic strumming learning technique.
Honestly brother it's so nice when you hit the notes right but I feel my chord fingers maybe wrong I like death grip them when I see others it looks like no pressure added like mine.. I'm definitely stiff maybe that's nerves?? Won't give it up though.
Appreciate your reply.
@@troopure right on. I’ll think about a lesson on this… thank you! I’ll tag you if it gets done :)
Thanks so much, this is really great and helpful... thanks!
Hey it's stitches brother
Ha! Wait until I do a 35 minute “solo in the style of donovan” tutorial!
Don’t worry about “all” the details is the heart of every artistic learning. Essentially. Relax. And Just focus on some. You cover alot of helpful angles on the tune. Very generous of you to share. I have been playing for 30 years. I can chop thru a zillion songs and dead songs but teaching is its own skill. I came here to see if someone had a nice quick way to make it work for a single guitar. You nailed it. But more impressed with your kindness and intuition of helping people and a musical intuition of also playing acoustic alone and carrying the feel of the tune. Keep going bud. Much love.
Thanks Daniel! I definitely find that trying to learn every precise note and nuance gets in the way of learning the actual song. It can all come later. Thanks for listening!
Thanks brother 🙏
Thank you!
Nice Job- Appreciate you putting the time in to this. Any chance you play an acoustic Estimated ? Btw we need your whole songbook!
I do! here you go: ruclips.net/video/0Gc5bbduOys/видео.html
Holler if you want a tutorial on this linked version and I can plan it up!
Here's the songbook: docs.google.com/document/d/1vMwLlDVLMo7tp6YBOFv5L0CwRoFM2hyHvsEUydu3jMo/edit?usp=sharing Though be warned that it takes forever to load and scroll lol. I saved as pdf and printed it out at Staples for a few bucks. And its all copy/pasted from other sites so still riddled with errors but gets you most of the way there :)
Thank you for this ! I just went to the final two shows at Fenway this weekend... Dead and Co. opened up the Second set with New Speedway and crushed it! I'm always looking for new versions /interpretations to incorporate into my own playing and yours is beautifully accessible to all levels of players. Peace! ☮️
I was there last night! Saturdays setlist looked great!
@@miraclejohan great show last night. That Playin' jam was Dead on. Check out the Dark Star/ Big River jam from Saturday night. I've had that on loop all day.
Thank you! Awesome lesson. More tutorials please!
Thank you! I don’t do many at all just because of limited time but if you have any requests, let me know!
Just great breakdown
Much appreciated
Peace
Thanks matt! Glad you got something from it!
Hey I have the same guitar. Bought it back in 81 when I was a kid. Great action. Need fret job and bridge and nut. But still plays. Never saw another till today. Cool. And a great video of a great song. Well done.
Thanks Keith! Just grabbed this on Craig’s list a couple months back for a great deal and have been happy with it. It’s a 78 according to the SN. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment!
@@miraclejohan that's cool. Mine about the same year also. You got me thinking. I just raised the bridge with a piece of a credit card and it plays great again. Neck was straight with very little relief. No fret buzz. yes! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
@@keithelmo nice! And thank you!
Great focus in the heart of the song. Much thanks
Thank you!
Nice job thanks!
Thanks Kenny! Hope it was helpful!
Thank you for the hard work
Of course :) this was more work than the covers ha!
Just discovered your channel, finally I found someone who's teaching style meshes perfectly with the way I learn. Your are so very talented. More tutorials please, throwing stones would be great. I really struggle with my right hand, timing and rhythm. I know chords I can change between chords pretty fluently, I just can't get things to sound the way I want because of my rythm/timing. Any tips or practice advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. For instance I noticed in this tutorial when you were doing that opening intro I noticed you kind of hitting the open E string almost as a way of keeping time before you went to the D string. Am I correct in assuming that helps with the timing? If my question makes sense. Thanks
Thank you! And yes, my right hand definitely keeps rhythm even sometimes when I’m not playing anything with it. I do a lot of instinctual palm mutes to help with this, especially on songs like this that chug along. Quieter/gentler songs not do much!
Can I ask does your right hand struggle all the time or only when trying to sing along too?
@@miraclejohan all the time, some songs more than others. For example runaround by blues traveler about a girl by nirvana i can play pretty much flawless. On the other hand a tune like Jack a roe or touch of grey I really struggle with.
@@Ryan-Kako yeah that makes sense. Those examples of tough songs are actually tough. JaRoe is fast and bluegrass with emphasis on the bass notes and ToGrey has upstroke emphasis as well.
My only advice is to try playing them slowly slowly slowly, just a part (intro, or verse or chorus) really focusing on that right hand…
@@miraclejohan will give it a go thanks.
A throwing stones tutorial would be awesome. Love that tune
Thank you for this :)
Thank you Albert! Hope it’s helpful!
Nice! Thank you !
Thank YOU!
You need a new microphone
Very long-winded
@@TheGravygun I hope you survived :) thanks for the feedback.
