Today's video is inspired by the many comments I've received requesting that I use cheap art supplies, I figured I'd take this chance to pair them against my regular pens for a cool comparison..

left side gives me 90's nostalgia.
Yeah I think it's the limited color pallet, and defined edges between color shifts. Also because the colors aren't blended they are more pure. However the skin is a bit over saturated heh. I think if the cheaper ones had a few more colors for skin it would be easier.

the color scheme of the left-hand side is more appealing, i think. sometimes, working within a strong limitation turns out something great.
Like that older anime shows.
High contast shading mostly more appreciated than lightly shaded
Orange and blue are complimentary colors in painting. Impressionism started from this color combo (orange and blue). The idea was that orange is a light but also warm color that complimented blue which is a dark cool color. Together they brightened each other up creating a relaxing but “feel good” type of image.
The material does not make the artist. the artist defines the materials.
edit:I have seen many stupid people who have not understood what I said: I wanted to say that even with the lowest quality materials a good artist can make an incredible drawing with them and put them to good use

I have three sets of very expensive markers. I have Promarkers, Prismacolor, and Copic. All of them are full sets. And my stuff still looks like a blind kindergartner with behavioral issues who can't follow instructions attacked an innocent piece of paper and left it colorfully dead.

Both sides look great but I really like the effect with the cheap pens because it looks like some kind of high definition pixel art or something, if that makes sense? You can look up the title screen for the game Blasphemous, you'll see what I mean xD

The left side is kinda like the 90s wolverine with the overly saturated colour which i prefer since I'm a 90s kids. The pro marker is like a more smoothened version. A bit boring for me. 😂
I love how the cheap side has a sorta nostalgic gritty look to it! Makes me think of the old Marvel Vs Capcom games
What if you did a vid with thirds where the cheap material on one side, the expensive material on the opposite side, and in the middle you use both together to seamlessly blend one side to the other with no line down the middle?
I would like to see your approach on coloring Iceman and Silver Surfer. I think your coloring is really great and I'm learning alot from it.
And congratulations on getting married. Been married for 5 years now and haven't regretted it since.
I would love to see Silver Surfer done. Such a wide range of options with that character. Could go completely bland or add in actual reflections and tones to highlight his "chrome" form.

The left side looks like the comic book style and the right looks like a cartoon style. I like both sides the left I enjoy alittle more because it just pops out to me personally more. But the right side is very clean and smooth looking. This is amazing!

The bright white highlights & strong contrast on the left make it more appealing.
I can’t help but love that street fighter look the left side has, the right is wonderfully rendered and works as a complete illustration, but the left coloring style compliments the drawing so well

Quality of markers doesn’t change the artist, but it does radically change the look and feel of the picture haha both sides are amazing but the right side looks highly professional

I think the fact that its a comic book character makes the left side more attractive since it gives it a sort of rugged look. Cool video!

5 dollar art all the way! it really brings back a classic feel and the arm doesn't feel out of place and has a sense of realism.
Both are honestly different styles. Like you say, you use higher contrast to compensate for the quality. On the other hand, the 500 dollar ones are blendable and more comfortable to use so you can go for more classic builds. Anyway, both are really cool nice work my dude
Still like the vibrant ones a bit more, it really looks like light is reflecting on it. But i prefer the skin on the right. But tbh, the cheap ones are way too specific for me when the expensive ones are a lot more versatile. Lot said but hey hope you like my opinion. I like both styles for different resins... The right-hand sides skin is wonderful, the left side has brightness, but also looks kinda orange. Still the abstractness of the left side is quite nice, but the left side has a nice smooth texture to it which is pleasing to look at as well... Over all I just like the character and the design that Kerby and Stan made when they made him and it's amazing! lol
The coloring on both are amazing. The left does give me the 90’s comics feel while the left is in 2019’s feel.

I've been doing some of these challenges on my channel.
If you're using water based markers against an alcohol based markers, there's a vast difference. All water based markers will peel up the paper while alcohol markers don't. You should have put water based markers against water based markers and alcohol markers against alcohol markers.
I would say the cheap markers have a old school comic kind of feel. They look really nice and clean for what they are. Left side all the way.
That right side is killer! Both sides look amazing but the right is my favorite.

Even with cheap markers you can make amazing art.
BUT with the pro markers it looks more powerful intense. Sure its technic and you has to habe talented and color combined taste for shading etc. But with pro markers you have more potential / more ways 2 blending shading it looks just better with it :)

I prefer the cheap markers. It's the high saturation that does it for me, I love high color over smooth transitions.
I totally agree with you. The left side is more vibrant but works only because of your professional ingenuity but I kinda like that you were forced into being more creative with what you had which in turn gave more depth to the end result. The right side which has a more professional but yet a somewhat metallic visual to it but awesome nonetheless. Great showcase dude! I shall subscribe!

I like the matte finish the pro's give you. When I go to take pictures of my artwork I always seem to get a shine. I used prismatic back when I was actively drawing.

Personally I believe that when it comes to art, it's not simply a matter of practice makes perfect. But also true talent. This man has both practiced, with the added God given blessing of talent.

Superior quality of the expensive markers is clear. The left just has a more appealing colour palette. Orange shadows on yellow pretty much always looks amazing. Stacked deck on this one.

I definitely like the pro side better. The other side looks fried and unnatural in a way. It looks good considering but the pro side just looks so much more flawless and smooth. The blending of the colors on that side is so satisfying to look at compared to the left side

you are right about the whole covering of the blue and stuff like that because i am coloring a spider-man 2099 and the blue is working great i am also using something that i notice you do which is layering and it works wonderfully
And then there is me who can't even colour inside the lines properly.
Gotta love when you want to go over the same place with two different colors and they just rip the paper to shreds.

I'm 3 years late to watching some videos, but I prefer the left hand side with the vibrance, pop of color and unique style that you made. Quality for sure on the right. But it's not as bold! So if your wanting that realisim look then the right. :) either way both sides are stunning.

For a "comic book style", I feel like the left side is better. It looks like the cheap printing style they used to use, only better. The right side looks more like an oil painting.

The yellow on the left I think I like better, only because it’s kind of golden, and I think it would have been really great if that same goldenish color was replicated on the right with that blending quality and that beautiful blue.
left side is more like it was drawn for a comic book whereas the right side looks more realistic and like a revamped drawing
At first I really like the left side(the cheaper one) but it's like a contrast of a classic comic book and the modern one, so both looks great! 👍😁😉
The left side looks like a SNES game. like the high-quality artwork of a prerendered "cutscene" with not as many pixels. The right side is what you expect for any high-quality comic book nowadays.

That magpie effect is kicking in hard. The left looks more natural in terms of comic book style/look, but the right looks more natural in terms of looking like real lighting and blending.

In countries like germany you wear your wedding ring traditionally on the right hand, instead the left like in the USA. You wear the engagement ring on the left hand, so you can easily see if someone is just engaged or married.
The left one reminds me off a still screen you'd see when starting a game on the DS. However, I prefer the right one, it looks alot more clean. Either way, both sides looks awesome!

The answer is obvious that the right one looks better, feels better but now lets talk about the left one.. The cheap markers performed pretty well not because of the quality or anything but because of the artist himself. To my opinion, both of them looks pretty awesome.

I like the left side more, but mostly because it reminds me of pixilized comic book art from the early 90's. The lack of blending really seems to be the main defining difference between the two sides.

personally I like the right side better the blending really makes it look natural, the colors on the left side are vibrant but you can see each stroke of the marker which just doesn't look as good as the right sides blending.

speaking as a bald guy who is suffering for 40 yrs. I would say I am impressed with what you did with the left side but the shading gradient on the right side is also very impressive and I prefer the right side, but I cannot believe the price of those markers.
I like the vibrancy of the left, but the technique is definitely better on the right.

You should spin a game spinner to decide what angle line you will draw to separate cheap from expensive. Like if the spinner points to 2 o’clock then you should draw the line from 2 to 8 instead of 12 to 6. Just for variety.
the left side is more brilliant in color but you can definitely see it doesn’t blend well, you can see the lines where you stopped with one color and proceeded to the next and there are the lines visible,,,, the right side is a bit bland but the shading, gradient, and overall smoothness adds a more realistic effect... you are an extraordinary artist... and Congratulations on your new journey of marriage 👍🏻👌🏻✌🏻 GOD BLESS
