- I try not to disturb people when I hunt. I often hunt near where folks live, so I use low-powered cartridges. I like the .357 magnum for close-range shooting and my reloaded cartridges travel slower than the speed of sound so they don't travel as far as full-power loads. To keep things a bit quieter I bought a small muzzle-forward suppressor from Waitaki Engineering. It is well-made, and it fits perfectly. It makes my Bergara rifle a bit more pleasant to shoot. I recorded this video on my iPhone, and I'm not sure that the phone "hears" gunshots like people do. But it does give an idea of what the rig sounds like. Best wishes.
It made that .357 sound like a .22.
Very nice , and tidy rig .
Way quieter👍
I reckon it is quieter, but I'd love to know how much. Not that I really need it, but I'd love to have some sort of a decibel meter to play around with. I can't quantify it, but I think that with low powered cartridges some powders may be a bit quieter than others at the same velocity. The APS350 I use has a similar burn rate to the well-known Red Dot, and it 'feels' quieter when I shoot it.
@@StephenCooteNZ You are probably right about powders being quieter. I am pretty sure that you can get a DB meter app for your phone. If not just a recording app will have a needle style meter usually you would just have to make note of where it spiked for different shots👍🇺🇸
@@StephenCooteNZ sorry the flag is a habit😂 Are you in New Zealand?
@@UncleDanBand64 Well, dang. Thank you Uncle Dan. There are several fairly decent-looking apps for measuring sound. I must download one.
@@UncleDanBand64 Nothing wrong with that flag. It is the flag from the home country of cast bullets, interesting firearms and practical shooting. Some of the first magazines I read were old 'American Rifleman' publications, possibly from the forties or fifties. Yep, I'm from Nelson in the South Island of New Zealand.
Brand, make and model?
Made by an engineering company in New Zealand called Waitaki Engineering. No commercial brand name or model. I just told the guy at Waitaki Engineering the caliber and the thread size and he made it from stainless steel. Perhaps you could define it as custom made.
I understand, thank you for your response.
the first shot is louder then the second shot with a suppressor.
