LOL. That moment Rache, when you told Rob he was looking really good, the look on his face told me he thought he was 20 years old again. Then he crashed and burned when you said you were referring to the zinc on his nose. Perfect burn! (No pun intended)
It was a good video and Robert well done on the sail drive maintenance/rebuild. Like I said in your short about Mocha A sea Cat Fish. It's so cool watching the trust this cat has with Ivan. Again Rachel you video shooting is excellent. Catch you next video
Excellent repair job. In the end it came together. Poor Mocha watching the water steal her lovely sandy beach. Good to hear from Declan. Congratulations on him finishing his course! Ivan being very helpful locating the needed seals! You guys seem to really enjoy being with the local people everywhere you visit. Walking the streets, shopping the markets, kicking the ball around on the local pitch. So much more enlightening and enjoyable then hitting the high-end resorts, marinas, or tourist spots.
Rob is a truly brave man. Had I attempted that repair, a bolt would’ve sheared off or some other un-repairable event would’ve occurred. The grooves on that shaft remind me of the necessity of having the rotors “turned” when having new brake pads installed on a car.
Hehe I'm surprised more didn't go wrong Robin although it was touch and go at one point. That groove will need work the next time we do the job I reckon.
I like the name on the sail bag the way it is...LOL. It shows that you have had some interesting travel experiences. It's kind of a Logo representing your diverse travels. Funny as it is, it fits you guys in an odd way! Plus...as a "seamstress", just think about all of the experience that she gained from this project...LOL! It will pay off for her next customer for sure...maybe, or maybe not.
The mark of a true cruiser. No marina needed, just a good sandy spot to let her go up on the dry. I am looking forward to your rounding the tip of South Africa. The other cruising channels used the Suez canal, so this will be exciting to see. While its great that Ivan wants to start his adulthood, it'll still be a sad day seeing the last of the boys leave the boat.
Rachel it never easy with teenagers on board, however you and Rob are fantastic parents(we don’t need to tell you that) and it is a game of give and take, great that you are all catching up with Excelsior and Shamaness. You will be in safe hands as Brendo trained the Gerkas in machete warfare 😮 Good to see that Rob got into some maintenance activities. Was that a pair of long pants of Rob? The sail bag was a one off original, did you know that seamstress use to look after Idi Amin uniforms and jocks! Great that you get Ivan involved in the boat work as well. Another entertaining episode guys and will look forward to the next one, take care and God Bless 🎄😇🙏🏰
Yeah been catching up regularly with the crew and heading Brandon's extraordinary past. As I write I'm sitting next to Frank in a car off to get boat stuff. It never ends😉
He was very nervous about it the day before but we everything just about went well. Thank goodness we had the extra set of seals or it may have been a very different story.
Great work Rob, you did it. Never doubt yourself, you always manage to do everything you set your mind to. Nice to see Declan again. Keep well and safe. James.
Always a slightly stressful job. I have changed mine a couple of times between tides, I have Volvo saildrives, but the process is almost identical. Good days work :)

Hope he finds new friends or he can visit another cool place with his mate Finn. Ivan's vlog indeed is awesome. Ouch... so many problems with the boat! Such an experienced captain as Rob can fix this, and all!! As avoiding a close collision... Even if you forget to open the water through the motor haha Oh well, nobofldy is perfect! Nice rebranded sail! Letters are cool, Rachel. Is kind of modern... And yes, well spell, which is the most important thing haha Milky!! Haha And Mocha watching out the repairs. Not the best beach you've been. Brave cat swiming. Good job, CKiwis!! Hi Declan!! Glad to finally hearing from you. Congrats on your course!! Nice to see everything is going ok, except for the river... ouch, bad thing is not clear water anymore. Good luck for your Muay Thai mates next week, film a bit for us if you can. Safe journeys, fair winds, Team Hamill!
Great job Rob ! Even confident enough to tackle the second drive ! I really thought the sail bag looked OK. Sort of an original look and kind of like a modern cartoon style font…..🧐
🎉🎉Declan’s coming back to the boat🎉🎉, after that I didn’t hear anything about seacocks, what seacocks 😂. Ivan can get a job in Cape Town, that’ll cheer him up some, being able to save for the jet setting adventure 🤙

Merry Christmas to you guys and have a wonderful wonderful time and another year coming up with some more incredible cruising you guys are living the dream!
Well done guys, I can't believe no watermelons were involved, what a letdown. I must admit, when I read the intro, I said yeah, this could be a disaster 🤣🤣🤣🤣Have you kept track of the growth on that section of the hull you painted with potion/poison from the vet?
Unfortunately the results are inconclusive. We didn’t really have enough ivermectin, which we then covered the whole hull with. It would have been more sensible to have mixed it into a small pot and just painted a designated area. On the upside, I believe there are lots of boats mixing ivermectin into their anti foul at Rebak marina. Thus the vet has become far more generous with the quantity of the drug he will prescribe.
Well done TCK team! You must have been very relieved that all went well! I'm in Taupo atm for the Ironman 70.3 WC next weekend. It's getting quite busy with triathlon athletes already. After the race, I'll be traveling around both islands for a month.
@@TheCruisingKiwis It was really hot but, considering that, I'm satisfied with the result of 4h41m. I finished when the temperature had risen to 33 degrees which felt like 38 or so. I was cooked! @@TheCruisingKiwis Merry Christmas! The Ironman 70.3 World Championship was tough. That weekend it was 33 degrees Celsius (felt like 38 they said). Considering it was engine work that wasn't boring at all ! Fairly unusual . About the only extra thing you could have done was have the boat come down on some sort of "chairs" so it would have been a little higher ? Pillows ? something like that. Something that wouldn't sink into the mud. Sure beats the cost of a take out !
Rob have you got header tanks fitted to your saildrives ? This helps a lot to prevent water entry and you don’t get pressure in the drives when hot which leaks oil and then a vacuum when they cool which draws in saltwater.. also it’s good to water paper the shaft seal area before fitting new seals. I fitted new Gori folding props to my friend in Zanzibars Leopard 39 on that same beach in Aug 2020 😉
Thane Mike no we don't have the header tank. However I see yanmar now recommend only coming the oil to the bottom of the do stick which I've done. So far so good.
