The GTP/GXP have an upgraded version of the 4T65E transmission-the “4T65E-HD.” It’s still worth checking for trans issues like any used performance car prior to buying, and an upgraded rebuilt trans will offer a lot more insurance and longevity.
I just bought an 06’ impala ss, which is basically the Grand Prix gxp’s Chevy cousin, a few weeks ago on impulse because I had always wanted one and I have to say it’s an awesome car. Really sucks that gm discontinued the ss trim and that Pontiac went out of business. These cars are so under-appreciated but people who know what they are love them. Like you said, the only major issue with these cars are the transmission. Gm “beefed it up” with a heavy duty differential but all the internals are the same. Fortunately the previous owner of mine had the transmission rebuilt. Fortunately for me I knew most of the quirks with these cars, including the transmission. My ultimate end goal for my car is the car tuning turbo kit and a triple edge performance transmission.
So is it good on manual but only thing u would have to do is change out the trans? Lmk if I’m thinkin correct lol bc I love Pontiac for the transam’s , the gto, g6 & this gxp
Keith Mcmanaway the gxp is def a muscle car I had a 07 impala SS she made 300hp to the wheels n she was quick it was front wheel drive the gxp is rear wheel making 303hp she’s a muscle car bra
liberty bell the one in the video is a 7th generation, so it is front wheel, i was referring to the gxp model as a whole the 4th gen was the last of the rear wheel platform the 4th, 5th, and 6th gen were muscle cars. IMO, all gens are muscle cars for this platform
I got super lucky and bought an ‘08 GXP back in October and it only had 64k miles on it. I fell in love with her after one day and I plan to keep it til the day I die lol
I love these cars! I have a 2004 and it started as my parents car in 04 and they gave me the option to keep it or get a new car and I could not give it up I love em. I plan on getting mine turbod since its already supercharged, and getting new mufflers to increase the sound.

130k miles. Still looks new, still runs like new. Used a little oil when new doesn't use any more. All the bells and whistles including the "heads up display"which is something all cars should have. Can't rotate tires as the front two are a tad bigger than the rear giving better stability and "get up and go" which that vet L4 does so well. I love this car.
Man I wish Pontiac was still around building excitement! We would have some cool different options instead of what GM offers today. Nice video and very cool GXP!
Yeee bring em back as the performance brand. It could totally work today, people want cool cars, as well as fast reliable ones. Fricking love my pontiac g8, even tho I bought it pretty high mileage, but I'm glad I got it instead of the jeep liberty I was highly considering when I went to that dealership
its the pressure control solinoid that fails then causes clutch slip. Just replace the $26.00 valve and saves the transmission. Extra coolers help as long as its proffessional and lines dont leak
I have the base Grand Prix, but this makes me want the GXP... The only issue I've had is quick rusting under the car. The resonator popped open making me sound like a ricer for a bit.

He's got an 04-06 GTO in pristine condition with lots of performance mods, so he was pretty excited to find it. I wanted something with more power than my crummy 06 Jetta but still kind of needed the practicality of a FWD or AWD drivetrain. I think this GXP is going to check all those boxes. Maybe I'll get to drive it home tomorrow.

Love your videos man. I got my '06 GXP last summer with 60k miles on it, one owner, and a clean title for 7k. I had an '04 before that and just loved the bodies. The one thing to keep in mind with the DOD delete is that the motor wasn't designed to always run on all eight cylinders. Sure, it solves the oil issues with software, but half the motor if you don't swap internals will experience excessive wear it wasn't engineered to handle. It's just my .02, but you may want to look into the entire mechanical delete accompanied with the tune so you don't experience issues down the road. Plus, it gives you an excuse to do a cam swap lol. Better to do it once right than twice with potential harm to your motor. Source: Family friend who retired from GM in early 2010 that scolded me for an hour after I told him I was just going to do the delete with only the tune.

Iv had my 06 Grand Prix Gxp since brand new. Got it August 05... love the car. Handles great and fast... I now have heads cam intake headers exhaust... unfortunately I’m in trans number 4 at 128k lol long story.
I have one 06 black gxp 145k 2 yrs I had it & love it but it's a oil drinker and I definitely hate the DOD!! Previously had a 08 impala SS And I recently put on a trans cooler.
Nice vid. Looking to buy one. I had a 2006 Impala ss and miss it. My Impala had tranny issues f course but I had it rebuilt and then I sold it. I regret it so much. But I’m determined to get another ls4 car eventually
got a 05 gp gxp with 169xxx and still running strong, just been replacing regular wear and tear stuff. had it since 2012 with 135xxx and plan on keeping until sometime next year.
Watched whole video 🙏🏻 gave me some closure and thinking about pulling trigger on a 05 gxp purple only 5k miles on it. Gonna try and negotiate a deal. They currently want 29k but previous owner bought it for 24k. Wish me luck 👍🏻
The LS4 nation is a decent group. I like of people will help you out when you have a question. But, there are a lot more of those turds who bash other for what they've don't to their car, or will bash yo for asking a simple question.
Also forgot to mention that wh et n the TP sensor goes out the computer completely renders the keyfob useless until it's fixed. And you don't completely get rid of DOD by tuning. Only a different cam will completely get rid of it, at least that's the way it is with the g8 gt's
not sure if you check here or not ..have a 2008 Pontiac grand prix gxp as well..boutht with 37,000 miles in 2010..has just over 80,000 now. Have a fuel pressure sensor issue ...help!!! is this an easy fix? don't wanna have to get rid of .love my car! seems gonna be expensive to fix😢 might have to sit. just wondering came across your video. Beautiful car !!
I see you have the starter rattle as well. As for the car I love mine, quick, not bad on gas, mine does go through oil as you said but that's a minor issue to me. I have a black 08.
That many miles in just 2 years?!! Holy shit lol. I have a mint 95 2 door cutlass that only has 96k on it. Only put 7k on in 2 years and I thought that was a lot lol.
Does size matter as far as rims when replacing struts ???? I have an o7(megatron) I just purchased a few days ago and already in love .. I was told it has a bullet proof rebuilt Tranny what ever that means lol so I’m piecing everything together piece by piece.. replacing all suspension first and foremost
Picking up my 06 gpx Wednesday! I’m stoked man. Gotta drive it 5 hours back home, can’t wait. Trying to plan out the mods already, could you link me to the head lights & tail lights you have?
I like to go racing, meets here in Chicago , i feel I can manage to drive calmly to not stress the transmission, but I'm the type of person that if you pull up next to me I assume you wanna race.. I just really want this car , but don't want to run with bad luck and get one and right away after have problems ... 20mpg ??? I have a Ford Taurus Ses Deluxe and only gives me 7mpg
G.M. must start building this car again. Much better than the 3.6 liter D.O.H.C. ( some commit suicide @ 40,000). We are Americans, we love smallblock Chevy, apple pie& Chevrolet. Just call it the new super Buick.
I have a perfectly good 2004 Pontiac bonneville GXP with 132121 on the dash no problem it’s from Colorado an I have it in my possession in Sacramento Ca.
I don't know if you will still answer but I am getting a gxp blue/green crystal 2006 and the problem that it's having is that after it's warmed up the trans will not want to go alot of times but other times it will go for 8+ miles have you ever delt with that.
I’m getting a V6 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix for $2000 with 129k miles, is that a good deal? Are V6s also oil guzzlers? Can the stock transmission handle the V6 engine? This will be my first car and I’m worried that it might be unreliable….
I have an 08 Grand Prix with the legendary 3.8 litter V6. I brought it in 2018 with 125k. I have 215k now with no issues . The transmission is built for the V6. The tranny struggles with the V8. Now...i top off with a half quart of oil in between oil changes. My fenders are starting to rust. I will have my guy put bondo on fenders this upcoming spring. Hopefully I can find another one from the south with no rust and low miles.
im 14, i can take drivers ed in 3 1/2 months and then 6 months after that i get my permit then the day 1 year after that i get my license. i want to get a cheaper car for my 1st and this is one i saw a few months back and fell in LOVE with then a few weeks ago i started kinda thinking abt cars again and discovered the TC by maserati which is an absolutely SICK car but then i tried to find saabkyles video on this car which is the 1st one i saw on this car just rewatched the full 26 minute video of his on this car again and fell in love again anyways any advice for 1st time car buyer looking at this car that doesn't know that much abt cars
Hey man I'm thinking of buying the same grand prix as you also I'm from Minnesota I live 1 he from st cloud jw if you could tell me more! Sweet ride also
If you don't mind me asking, do you know how much would an oil change cost for this car? I am considering buying one, but i just don't know how much it would cost to maintain this car.
Clean for a Minnesota car I live in Minnesota and almost every car with the same age has rust spots, even my Mercedes had bad rust spots cause the Minnesota winter. Props for keeping her so clean
im 13, 14 in 3 months, ive never really been interested in cars but in the past month or so ive been so attracted in cars, ive been watching a ton of 1st car videos and cars under 5K and all that, this one attracts me for some reason, maybe because my dads first car was a Grand Prix. i know its not a newer car so itll have some stuff wrong, but i kinda want this as a first car, any other suggestions to look into?
with my GP its check engine light is caused by the secondary air injection system(system air flow/pressure sensor circuit bank 1 - P2430) and Evaporative Emission(Vent System Performance - P0446), other then that i really like mine, i just cant constantly use the remote start before i leave work in the cold, like id have to wipe the codes before i go in every day i work, thats really the only dislike i have which im fine with but would like to fix in the future, but if you know what could possibly fix these engine codes then please feel free to let me know
Ryan Lawson it looks like he just took it off and painted or wrapped it like the gas cap, if your saying it looks different from stock the gxp has a bigger wing
i got my afm/dod delete on my car and it messed up all my electronics big time, trunk opening up going down the road, trunk opening on its own, car alarm goes off when trying to start it. radio shutting off while going down the road. ive done a extreme amount of work to this car in the year ive had it but im almost done with it and just get something else and mines clean as hell lol i wanna do alot more to it but idk what to do
tnt201123 i figured it out and it was my key fab the whole time. i didnt know a shorted out key fab could cause all the issues i had 😂 but thank you. an also, have you ever figured out maybe if its possible to actually build the 4t65e tranny we have? i rebuilt mine back in july. would like to make a beast out of the car without rebuilding it every few months lol. ive been researching the hell out of the 4t65e

Wat actually breaks wen yours go out? Oh yea the valve body has a tendency to go bad on the lower yrs. I have a 99 an a 05. No problems with the 05 but the 99 oh my to many but I've fixed a lot lol
I have a 2005 Grand Prix base model. 228,000 miles. It runs fine besides this slight transmission issue I'm having if anyone can help me!!!! When I first drive around the car on the first startup of the day it shifts and runs fine then as it warms up it starts shifting weird like it revs a couple times and shifts. Then it goes into this weird mode where it shifts hard in every gear except first into second. Then when I turn the car off this mode goes away and goes back to normal. I'm about to change the transmission filter and see if that maybe fixes the issue. If it doesn't do you think it could be the transmission pressure control solenoid? Or something else? The car runs fine and I don't hear any weird noises in the engine or anything so something telling me it could just be a sensor
HELLO , DID YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR ? HOPE ITS ALL GOOD NOW. BUT MAYBE NOT SINCE ITA ON LY BEEN A MONTH. WHATS WRONG WITH THE TRANS ?
@@CashApp-HelpMeStayAlive yes I actually just did. So the check engine light finally came on for this issue, it said it had to go through a bunch of Cycles for it to go on. It was the code p0742 code torque converter clutch stuck open. So now I'm trying to figure out what needs to be fixed exactly to get rid of the code.

got a 05 gp gxp with 169xxx and still running strong, just been replacing regular wear and tear stuff. had it since 2012 with 135xxx and plan on keeping until sometime next year.
zbib43 aye nice! Imma hit 400k in the clock of mine
That's a nice color! I prefer the Sport Red Metallic (Dark Red)
I have that color
Watched whole video 🙏🏻 gave me some closure and thinking about pulling trigger on a 05 gxp purple only 5k miles on it. Gonna try and negotiate a deal. They currently want 29k but previous owner bought it for 24k. Wish me luck 👍🏻
How's the car?
I'm planning on getting a 2005 grand prix gxp fully equipped with everything
What type of chip did u get. I’m just trying to help out my GXP a lil I love the car just want it to be a lil sharper
Isiah Jones no chip just custom tuned
you are right about the trans but it is the hd those dont come in the base grand prix
I was told it has a bullet proof rebuilt Tranny what ever that means lol so I’m piecing everything together piece by piece.. replacing all suspension first and foremost
this was my first car and I love it
Picking up my 06 gpx Wednesday!
I going to have one it's a base model . Also an Impala wit some bam and 22s on them
I have been trying to find a good condition GXP, but they are so hard to find..
Mr Vegan depending on how far you'll go, there's a couple in Ohio where I'm at... I'm buying one Friday
Just bought the gtp and gxp
Mines for sale! Where are you located
I have a perfectly good 2004 Pontiac bonneville GXP with 132121 on the dash no problem it’s from Colorado an I have it in my possession in Sacramento Ca.
What do you think about a 06 for 3500 with 189000 miles
I don't know if you will still answer but I am getting a gxp blue/green crystal 2006 and the problem that it's having is that after it's warmed up the trans will not want to go alot of times but other times it will go for 8+ miles have you ever delt with that.
i have a 2008 gxp and love the car but the transmission is starting to act up at122000 miles.
Try a bottle of Lucus Trans slip fix
Nice car! Heck what type of headlights are those ??
Halo type aftermarket found online
I’ll be truthful, these cars could have made great police cars, yours definitely looks like one for some reason
My dad had one when he was Sheriff, special ordered a police package impala with one.
im 14, i can take drivers ed in 3 1/2 months and then 6 months after that i get my permit then the day 1 year after that i get my license. i want to get a cheaper car for my 1st and this is one i saw a few months back and fell in LOVE with then a few weeks ago i started kinda thinking abt cars again and discovered the TC by maserati which is an absolutely SICK car but then i tried to find saabkyles video on this car which is the 1st one i saw on this car just rewatched the full 26 minute video of his on this car again and fell in love again anyways any advice for 1st time car buyer looking at this car that doesn't know that much abt cars
Badass hood with scoops available too
I switched my bilstein struts all out with gabriel rides way better now
Hey man I'm thinking of buying the same grand prix as you also I'm from Minnesota I live 1 he from st cloud jw if you could tell me more! Sweet ride also
For a turbo wouldn’t you need a better transmission? And is the transmission good as long you don’t like treat it like it’s a hellcat😂
What is the ideal trans temp? Thank you
Thinking about getting a GXP. Is the gas mileage awful? I found an 08 with 109k miles for 7k, probably talk them down to 6-6.5k. good price?
If you care about gas mileage don't buy a v8 lol. Generally no v8 is good on gas.
@@coolmodee you'd be surprised. Actually ended up buying the GTP instead of the GXP
@@claytonmoore8472 Be surprised about what?
I just found 08 grand prix for 2500
107k miles
Can you put a big spoiler on it or no, sorry I just got this car have no idea what I can do
If you don't mind me asking, do you know how much would an oil change cost for this car? I am considering buying one, but i just don't know how much it would cost to maintain this car.
Normal 30 bucks
Im guessing the trans cooler on my Bonneville SSEi wasn't stock.
Clean for a Minnesota car
I live in Minnesota and almost every car with the same age has rust spots, even my Mercedes had bad rust spots cause the Minnesota winter. Props for keeping her so clean
Thank you
im 13, 14 in 3 months, ive never really been interested in cars but in the past month or so ive been so attracted in cars, ive been watching a ton of 1st car videos and cars under 5K and all that, this one attracts me for some reason, maybe because my dads first car was a Grand Prix. i know its not a newer car so itll have some stuff wrong, but i kinda want this as a first car, any other suggestions to look into?
what do you consider high miles? like 100,00+?
So I'm getting a 2008 with 207k runs fine dead battery for 600$$ good deal right?
with my GP its check engine light is caused by the secondary air injection system(system air flow/pressure sensor circuit bank 1 - P2430) and Evaporative Emission(Vent System Performance - P0446), other then that i really like mine, i just cant constantly use the remote start before i leave work in the cold, like id have to wipe the codes before i go in every day i work, thats really the only dislike i have which im fine with but would like to fix in the future, but if you know what could possibly fix these engine codes then please feel free to let me know
Slick car... I'm looking yo buy a low miles California car.. gxp.
Yes hi are you today yes I have a 2006 grandprix gxp i love my car
You know any ideas for dashboard problems?
Do all latest generation Pontiac Grand Prix models have a sunroof?
Nope
@@jesseteeg7441 ok.. how to find one?
What’s the blue tube on the right side for?
Where’d u get that trunk wing from? Or did u buy a new trunk? Kuz my gtp is chipping from clear coat
Ryan Lawson it looks like he just took it off and painted or wrapped it like the gas cap, if your saying it looks different from stock the gxp has a bigger wing
I'm looking at one rn and I stay in Minnesota and im not that far from st.cloud. could you walk me around yours sometime??
And what type of fuel are you using premium
How do u fix the service traction control, one cylinder isnt working, no code.
Is There An Aftermarket Transmission Available?
Sounds great
Are you think about selling
I'm from Minnesota where you gonna get your tune
another dream car I wnt one & a gtp
Bro I'm in MN. Would you buy one with 150K miles? I could get one for about 5k.
2008
So a lot of things are going to need to be replaced and it came with a typical crappy GM 4 speed
Is it built for taller people sir because im 6ft and im looking to buy one
Dorian Torres it’ll be a little tricky getting in at times but once you’re in you’re fine
I got one and im 6'3 no issues getting in and out it roof kinda low but it has alot of leg room so u should be fine
What should I do to get the smoke and putting sound to go away?
Do you know if the GT2 has a supercharged engine ? And any advice on exhaust ?
No the GT2 isn’t supercharged
@@filmguy8505 yep, sold for a gtp and can't believe how much more performance you get from gtp vs gt2
@@mercilessmerkk7621 yea it’s night n day
Dude has same headlights and taillights I do.
And check for rust under the rear
where did you buy your headlights?
Spyder headlights
is there on amazon?
i got my afm/dod delete on my car and it messed up all my electronics big time, trunk opening up going down the road, trunk opening on its own, car alarm goes off when trying to start it. radio shutting off while going down the road. ive done a extreme amount of work to this car in the year ive had it but im almost done with it and just get something else and mines clean as hell lol i wanna do alot more to it but idk what to do
Chris hodo try checking the bcm. Those sound like those symptoms
tnt201123 i figured it out and it was my key fab the whole time. i didnt know a shorted out key fab could cause all the issues i had 😂 but thank you. an also, have you ever figured out maybe if its possible to actually build the 4t65e tranny we have? i rebuilt mine back in july. would like to make a beast out of the car without rebuilding it every few months lol. ive been researching the hell out of the 4t65e
@@missouriskrewed9609 I wish! Lol. I've only went as far as the 4th gear hub. In my 99 the 4th gear splines spent off so I had to go in an replace it sensors an all. You've been further than me if you rebuilt the whole trans. But I heard you can titanium clutches. But I have heard no1 actually said they put them in. Maybe hardened pump shaft? Wat actually breaks wen yours go out? Oh yea the valve body has a tendency to go bad on the lower yrs. I have a 99 an a 05. No problems with the 05 but the 99 oh my to many but I've fixed a lot lol
Brooo i got one too im in Minnesota where you located at? 🤣 i need a friend
HELLO ,
DID YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR ?
HOPE ITS ALL GOOD NOW.
BUT MAYBE NOT SINCE ITA ON LY BEEN A MONTH.
WHATS WRONG WITH THE TRANS ?
@@CashApp-HelpMeStayAlive yes I actually just did. So the check engine light finally came on for this issue, it said it had to go through a bunch of Cycles for it to go on. It was the code p0742 code torque converter clutch stuck open. So now I'm trying to figure out what needs to be fixed exactly to get rid of the code.
What type of you use of your back tail?
I'm buying a GTP Comp tomorrow morning lol 😂
I like them both :) and oh both
#1. Make sure previous owner didnt drive it in the winter
Fwd is for winter
Anyone else’s phone shake on that cold start?
