The Evolution of King of the Hammers | Episode 1 | KOH: Origins

- Опубликовано: 31 дек 2017
- The first episode of the King of the Hammers: "Origins" series dives into the history of KOH, as well as its evolution throughout the years since 2007. From the formation of the Mojave desert, to the streets of Hammertown, Johnson Valley provides the perfect catalyst for the hardest single-day off road race on the planet. Along with KOH itself, the off road industry would mold and be molded as a result of the race.
Special thanks to WARN, ARB 4x4 Accessories, Spidertrax Off Road, Nitto Tire, Ultra4 Racing, and Dave Cole for their support of this project. - Авто/Мото

I was stupid lost my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me.

@Royce Gerardo Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im in the hacking process now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Royce Gerardo it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
I went to KOH in 2012 alone on my Moto got stuck all day on top of the mountain in the middle of the course because I accidentally found my self on the track after riding a unmarked goat trail up to get a better vantage point, the race communications crews were stationed up there and wouldn't let me leave because the only way down was to ride on the track and didn't want me to get mowed down riding on a hot course... they were so hospitable and let me in to there group, even fed me a sandwich and water. I then came back in '14 with my wife and we volunteered for race operations, what a great community and incredible experience I cant wait to get back down there again and see the progression. Without a doubt will volunteer again its a one of a kind chance to be involved without feeling like you have to spend 100k on a race rig!
Lol they cant stop you from leaving... just do what ever you want, I always drive all over the track when they 'race,' just a bunch of dickheads anyway...
Race the Hammers in a UTV 4 times. Our best finish was 6th. It is a brutally awesome adventure of craziness. We are from the east coast, drag the rig out once a year to race...Hammers... and have a blast doing it. It is hard to explain exactly how much and how large the crazy factor is. But it is..well...frickin huge. I can't even imagine, nor would I try, to ride that stuff on a bike. How do you sit down... don't your balls get in the way?
Thanks for making me laugh
Life is better with Ultra4 Racing.
Awesome video. I first went to KoH in 2013 with a couple friends from My trade school. We started off camping in tents with a single 4x4 truck to play with. After school we all moved our separate ways but we all get back together at KoH and have a beer. We've gone from tents in the sand to having full on rock crawlers. I have nothing but great memory's of KoH week.
Great story. 2013 was the first and only time I raced my UTV. So the 2013 race always has a soft spot for me. It was a dream that happened.
I cannot describe how tastefully and awesome this video is edited! "Great job" doesn't even cut it, you've created a little masterpiece... :)
Thank you.
i was there that night, the first meeting on Means, we had a dozen guys when Jeff & Dave pitched us the KOH plan, was a whole new type of race. my favorite memory from working the race for Mark....running wide open backwards on the racetrack, with a Jeep full of camera crew (radio yelling at me as we blew through the back straight checkpoint), going head to head with Shannon Campbell (race leader) who was running the opposite way. we passed him at about 40mph on the backside of Outer Limits.....the camera guys had no idea how close I came to ending Shannon's race and probably our lives...... what a great event it's become. thanks for the vid! - vintagespeed from PBB
How do we know it's you
I remember when it all first got started with the Victorville Four Wheelers. We live only thirty miles from the Hammer trail. I still own a built up 85 four runner, however it would not keep today. We use run around the desert and pick up the old bomb scraps, they would litter our yard, fun times. It is amazing to see what it all turned into.
I started coming the for the gold prospecting in JV and the Dales back in the 70's :)
Now I go out most days in a sleeper 95 4runner.
I had heard the stories on how KOH started, but this video really put all the different pieces together into a cohesive story. Great video guys!
Very cool, very motivational... Living at the at the big dune, NV, I sadly see the need of these individuals, is the need to stay humble. Great vid thx.
Awesome video! All pumped and can't wait till Feb 2 🤘
I was all in watching this, thanks to all who put this together.
F-ING AWESOME..! I swear, if it kills me, I'm going to run this..!
Excellent video y'all, Thanks..!
I'm really inspired by this! Thanks for getting my fire going even hotter and brighter and burning me to get out on the next adventure!
That video really defines KOH. Where there's passion, there's dedication and dreams even in the desert.👍
I came across this video while doing research on popular offroading spots in SoCal. Very cool! Can't wait to visit.
Great work by those OG13 guys to get this going and grow it to what it is today. Going to start planning for next year!
Holy crap. WELL DONE! thank you.
Watching this got me super pump for February!!!
Amazing video! Really take me back to the old days out there.
Can't wait for the next part!
Been there once, great event !
This was a great watch.. from the music, to the interviews to the footage.
And to think I cam here from watching Losi Rock Rey RC car footage.
Bring on part 2 :)
THIS VID IS AMAZING!!!! Love your work! Love KOH!
One of the best productions I’ve seen in a long time. Well done.
Fantastic video! Thank you!
Awesome stuff!
The only other video I've ever watched about the KOH was about 5 or 6 years ago and it was also documentary style. Man its come a really long way in that fairly short amount of time.
Great video and editing!!! Loved the story.
Thank you!
I went 2019. I am so HOOKED on KOH. FUN IS LIFE
Great job on the video! The story is epic and the challenge even more so!
Props to you guys for creating something amazing and following a dream.
SONORA POSSE WAS THERE. PROVEN @ 10.05 !! I remember it well. We asked them wtf they were doing and they said racing, you wanna race? If I could only go back in time....
Shannon Welch is gods gift to cool people that like cool things. Lists everything you could want then says “oh and I did I mention there’s bomb craters”. Legend
Fantastic job, looking forward to more episodes!
so many Crazy clips !! thanks
great video! good work!
thank you!
wow a whole new version of racing that I would really like to get into. I'm not into any racing now but this takes the cake.
Woow, excellent series. I just love it!
Nice Work! Love it.
That into though! Awesome!
Really awesome work. Thank you HeavyMtealConcepts!
Awesome little doc. It really sounds like the KOH guys and my crew out at burning man share a ton of values. You guys build amazing cars, we build amazing art but it's the same principles of not ever being satisfied, wanting more, and adventure. I found this because I started playing with rc rock racers not knowing what they were modeled from, now I am a fan.
Great Video ill see you all there this year!!!!
So sick guys! i am starting my own channel with my shop and i am aspiring to put out great content as you always do! keep up the good work and happy new year!
Great video. Love the cinematography. Love the story.
AWESOME video!
so awesome! art in offroading.
Masterpiece!
This video is awesome. Outright awesome.
Been following KOH for years and it's F&@KIN awesome how successful and popular it's become. Hopefully next year I can make the trek down from Canada for the event. Awesome Video HMC! killer job!!
Thanks Corey! KOH is next level!
Truly excellent video. Subscribed!
Video of awesomeness!!
Amazing video!! Amazing race! Amazing peaple!!!
Been following this for years, after my boss thwarted my plans last year I put it on my calendar for 2020 and can't wait to get out and see this IN PERSON, and to meet a bunch of great people along the way. See you all out there!! #KOH2020 #COBOUND
Great presentation. Very entertaining. My wife cousin has a Polaris RZR. He lives in Yucca Valley Ca. He mention going to KOH and just trying to get there was a huge challenge.
Amazing Video!!! Super well done.
This will be my fourth koh
I had always loved rock crawlers, big trucks and fast cars. The sound of a big V-8 roaring through open pipes, glasspacks, or even those deep sounding flowmasters was always heaven to my ears. Folks, I definitely have the "bug" when it comes to racing. Even though I'm in a certain demographic that is unlikely to be part of such things, I still love it. But living all the way across the nation in PA, I never even heard of KOH and Ultra4 until I seen Matt Carrikers' Off The Ranch video about his "Nightmere". Sadly, this year, his rig had a suspension link weld let go causing a few rolls, and had to be trailered back to Hammertown. Thankfully no one was hurt, and one racer even stopped to help roll the Nightmere back over.
All in all, it sounds like a great place and a good time had by all. One of these days, I would like to go there and just see it all in person.
Amazing..i love so much your work..
thanks for your support!
I see many many motorsport videos Around the World..you are the Best Filmakers for me and inspire me to be better
This was an awesome video, makes me miss grass roots racing really bad...
Amazing production! Stumbled across your stuff after the Nitto 2016 JKX video and followed it to here.
Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks! Glad you were able to find us. A lot of our video work ends up out on client channels, but a small bit makes it here. Appreciate the props!
YeeYee!!! See everyone in only ONE month!!! HAMMER TOWN!!!
Excellent!
Very good video guys. It was kind of you to briefly mention Victor Valley 4 Wheelers club. But it wasn’t just a couple guys finding a canyon and driving up it. It was Chuck Shaner and Mark walking these canyons after the BLM asked the club to build trails in the area. Chuck was a madman on a mission to build the very best trails ever seen, with lots of help by the club members. I was one of them. The club had work parties( not actual parties but work) for many weekends moving Jeep sized boulders to eventually build a drivable trail. I only helped a few weekends and I can tell you it was a grueling time building this trail. But Chuck Shaner deserves the bulk of the credit with getting Sledgehammer and other trails built. And there were many others including Mark, Wes Calkins and Fuzzy Winters to name just a few. I have many pics from the building of Sledgehammer. It was built, not found!!
Thanks for the info! Always love learning more about the Hammers and the history of off road.
HeavyMetalConcepts , your welcome. That’s only a brief overview of the creation of the Hammers, but Victor Valley 4 Wheelers has the whole story. I’ll just say it again, Chuck Shaner was a madman with a vision that produced “The Hammers!”. That man could work like no other and moved the largest boulders ever. VV4W club was a great bunch .
Great job! loved the first installment and one day I will make it there and race!
Appreciate it, the next episode will launch in a couple weeks and will focus on the Ultra4 car itself!
Dope video!
Have been around a lot of offroad racing and rock crawling, but this is the only place I have ever seen someone winching downhill.
This historic video should be shown on the jumbotron once, every day during race week.
My bucket list dream....just to watch.
The narrators voice reminds me of Fallout New Vegas, incredible film right here
I hope king of the hammers continues after I'm dead and gone so my KIDS can enjoy this amazing time
Awesome editing!
You gotta do another one for how much it has grown!
awesome video. Getting me stoked for this years!
What a BEAUTY vid!!!
thank you!
Awesome video!
Thanks!
This could've been a full on 2 hr documentary. Amazing video
Crazy driver! This is it
Such a cool style of racing, I live in the Midwest and we have nothing like this.
The lasst part did it for me. We have a little popup and hope to make it to the next event!
My cousin and I found about KOH with a CB radio he has in his Jeep. We were talking with our buddy in another Jeep when some random person butted in “ hey you guys heading to KOH? It was trucker in a big rig who had spotted my cousins antenna . We had no clue what “KOH” was at the time . So he told us what it was next thing you know we’re heading to Johnson valley to go see some racing . Great place to go if like this sort of stuff!
Years before KOH I was a member of VV4W and drove the first "full size" Jeep (1974 Cherokee) through Sledgehammer. When I got to the end of the trail, my Jeep was a little narrower, and the trail a little wider!
applause. thanks.
6:43 John Reynolds has an awesome RUclips channel with amazing fabrication and he's pretty hilarious too.
rockstomper racing is just down the street from my dads house. growing up i rember him loading up for the first king of the hammers.
JUST. GONNA. SEND. IT.
Nice vid. There are some bucks behind a vid of this quality. Probably the advertisers. My how this event has grown in just over a decade. I'm happy that my Brother John (JR) actually was the winner of the OG13. They gave him the top spot in the narrative. In episode 2 of this tome they also give him credit. Bro had variously a 525 H.P. Ford; Mog portal axles; and 4-wheel steering, which was an anomaly at that time, and his excellent build skills. In subsequent races it was a trip seeing him take off from a checkpoint and be up to 100 MPH within seconds. You never forget that overwhelming roaring sound of raw horsepower filling the shallow dry lake. Bro said the race was won in the first 100 yards getting out in front of the billowing dust cloud. That's him on the right hand side pulling out ahead of the others at the line up start. One thing they don't talk about is the forerunner to this race at The Hammers: The 1999 Warn Rock Crawling Challenge. I was a spotter for bro John and it was a lot more crawling without much of the fast paced sections. It was the Hammers forerunner, however. jefe
We considered including mention of the WARN event, they were a supporter of this piece afterall, but decided to keep it specific to KOH. Thanks for the props and glad you enjoyed. Your brother is a class act!
Your brother's car was built at Dalton Fabrication in Adelanto.
This is the toughest race in the world 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dear NITTO TIRES, thank you for "trail grapplers". 👌🏻
Incredible work AS. ALWAYS. guys! Being on pirate4x through the original KoH, I feel like I've always been able to follow the 'pulse' of Ultra4, but this is really the history lesson that brings together a cohesive picture.
Also I've gotta mention that, as a total artsy fartsy high end videography wannabe that is planning to start a YT channel with the plan to try to put out some unique, high end video, your work has definitely been influential. Love what you do, love the quality, and hope that I can eventually match your level!
Awesome feedback, thanks and best of luck on your efforts!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
I want to go to KoH so bad. The ultra4s running at CRANDON INTERNATIONAL OFF ROAD turned me on to it. So Fuckin cool!!
Love your films, and the KOH. So much better than NASCAR! Gonna get me some Nitto Tires for my rig!
So this is as good as NASCAR, but on rocks!
@@kg0173 Better IMO, you have desert and rocks. 800hp put down on 42" 4WD NASCAR can't touch that. But it's still cool mind you.
@@jerrywatson1958 I'm just tired of these obligatory comparisions with NASCAR.
@@kg0173 I feel ya. I am more of a off road fan myself. But I grew up on NASCAR and INDY racing. When I was 16 I got into dirt bikes. So dirt is my friend, along with mud.
@@jerrywatson1958 I have been huge Dakar rally fan all my life. I like NASCAR, Indy aswell. Trophy Trucks are great machines, but this new Ultra 4 class is amazing. Definitely this sport has a future.
I remember the NAXJA guys running their XJ’s up the Hammers in the 90’s .. successfully! Though I was a NAXJA member myself .. I never went to JV .. I needed my XJ to get to work 🙄 lol
Awesome video, my dad David Curtiss, who started Extreme 4×4, Columbia TN. was one of if not the first to build a full tube chassis, v8, solid axle buggy back in the late 90s early 2000s, he mainly did slow rock crawling with it, tool it to Moab Utah, North Carolina, the badlands, all sorts of trails in the southeast, if you look up "Extreme 4×4 Columbia Tennessee" you should find a video of his buddy keith and his yj buggy at moab and what not. My dad also built most of his yj aswell. It's so cool to see how rock crawling evolved from full size trucks and jeeps to buggies and then into ultra4, srrs, etc., thanks for sharing this video.
Trying to locate some 2018 KOH footage of our race do you know who or where I can purchase it
32:13 that prius in the background tho
This is awesome at first but then it started on a different direction which is code for what it is
KOH 2019🤘
Soon!
Hell yeah, I'm fucking stoked
Literally my backyard
One day I’m gonna get to come drive in this race and I cannot wait!!!it sucks being poor and building my own ride to get there tho it gives me drive to get up and go make the $$$$$. One day ultra 4 my West Virginia ass is gonna take that crown🤘🤘🤘
Hey what kind of buggies are these? Is there a specific class?
Marlin Crawler 🤙
