  • I finally decided to try Shore Jigging at the Blue Lagoon estuarine system at the mouth of the Umgeni River.
It's was an extremely positive result!
Sadly all specimens caught were small juveniles.
This could be due to the incessant poaching by a few foolish individuals, who use cast nets (which is not allowed in estuaries!!!)
    Hopefully the area can recover...
    Species Caught:
    Bigeye Trevally (Caranx sexfaciatus)
    Lures used:
    Fishman Sting (7g Pink Blue)
Tsurinoya Arrow (7g Luminous Pink Stripe)
    Tsurinoya Arrow (10g Luminous Pink)
    Rod:
    Okuma Matrix 8ft
    Reel:
    Okuma ITX 4000 high speed
    Line:
Backing - Berkley Big Game 12lb
Braid - Grinder Depth Charge 20lb multicolor
Leader - Sunline Siglon FC 26lb
    Terminal Tackle:
Solid Rings - BKK size 3
Split Rings - BKK size 4
Assist Hooks - BKK Shore Patrol small

Thanks Chief! It's such a pity that the poacher ravaged the river mouth with constant netting... The specimens would definately have been much better otherwise

You should definitely take a shore jig with you, the next time. Keep the rod tip down at an angle and rip it towards you. Tight lines!
