lali, the fried chilli you had, the salty crisp one, is a varuvel, crunchy fried things of diverse persuaions, that are CRUMBLED SPARINGLY on rice mixed with sambar or pappu saaru, to provide textural contrast. potato crisps can be varuvel, as well. NOT TO BE EATEN STRAIGHT.

The Sun-dried chilly that you had doesn't go well for the freshers . It's an acquired taste food. However if you eat it with steamed. Rice with ghee you would have liked it better and even better with curd / curd rice.
The dry chilli from Papadam basket usually goes well with one pot rice dishes like Sambar rice, Bisibele baath , Khichdi & Curd rice, just like other Papaddams. More like condiments.

We were in London a month ago and ate at Sharavana Bhavan. Being Telugu, we would have visited this restaurant if I had known its existence. When we visit London (from Wales) next time, we will definitely visit the place. Fried chillies taste better if you add them to rice mixed with dal or sambar.

The Mirrapakaya bhaji/chilli bhaji is actually a street food. You eat with your hands , just like corn. You exactly ate the spicy part , the crown. Usually its bland , mildly spicy.

Apart from Andhra Pradesh you won’t find any food with same taste, no matter how good the restaurant is!! This is my real experience.

I think you should come to India and try our wonderful hyderabadi non veg and veg break fast.
You have to eat that chilli as a side dish while munching curry, dal or curd. Then you will enoy the taste
So dont eat directly.
