Thanks. The Explorer looks a lot more modern. If I get a GC though it will be one with a V8. But hopefully without the air suspension. But whatever I get can't have black interior. So it might be Explorer as they are a lot more common.

Thanks for the video. I own a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The transmission on these Jeeps are bizarre. There lag when you get on the gas. It can't make up its mind what gear to be in. Especially speeds around 25 and 45 mph. I brought it back to the dealer. The head mechanic and I went for a ride. He said it's a "learning transmission", give it time to break in, layman's terms. I took a 2022 Compass out for a ride, same deal. I never hear anyone talk about it?? Enough power and good breaks. Too bad otherwise I live it. It's my 3rd Grand Cherokee. Okay sorry for hijacking the comments.

I personally would have compared the Ford Edge with the Grand Cherokee instead of the Explorer, being that the Edge is closer in size and passenger-carrying capabilities to the Jeep. That being said, my money is still on the Jeep, as I own a 2014 GC, and it's been a great vehicle... good fuel economy, a comfortable interior, and it's good in the ice and snow.

so i personally got a chance to test drive a 2015 GC overland(diesel) and a 2016 explorer sport today... kind of what brought me here. I am finding it hard to make a decision as to which I like more because there is a lot of pros and cons to both. both were in great condition so I couldn't complain about quality. Comfort, I'm about 5'5" and stocky, so the explorer was more comfortable since i felt a little compacted being in the GC driver seat width wise. leg room was great in both though for the driver. my roommate went with and he is about 6', he didn't like riding in the passenger seat of the explorer because it's not a lot of leg room. the GC on the other hand is a lot better equipped for longer legs in all seats. again though, I'm built like a brick so leg room wasn't a factor for me. if we're talking value, the GC is valued a little under the explorer, but it also retains it's value longer with a much higher projected value in a 3-5 year span. Reliability, this will be subjective considering it was a diesel vs the sport models, but the GC will have a much more expensive up keep, but last longer. the explorer will have much cheaper parts since it's a ford, but the gas mileage will be worse. You have a mileage range of about 298 / 409 miles (city/hwy) in the explorer sport, while you get 418 / 615 miles (city/hwy) in the GC overland diesel. what makes up for that with me is the smiles per gallon out of the explorer. It was just more fun to drive with 365hp and 350ft/lbs of torque. I also drove the 2015 durango R/T and the explorer sport is a lot more responsive, quicker and handles a lot better. personal opinion, if you don't want to speed, passenger that are taller, and would prefer the better gas mileage, the GC overland is a better deal. If you want a family SUV with shorter passengers, more cargo space(with 3rd row folded), and something you can have hwy fun in while sacrificing a little fuel economy(sport model), I'd go with the Explorer sport.
