My wife owns a Explorer and I own a Jeep SRT and the Explorer’s power delivery when the turbos kick in is much more linear and smooth than my 6.4. And the ride quality is much better.
It looks like the shifts are a lot more seamless in the ford. Looks like the jeep is banging gears going down the track. On top of that, you're dealing with close to twice the motor in the SRT. But one thing you'll never get from the Ford, the sound of those two extra cylinders.
Tha_ville if u get the right exhaust setup it kinda sounds like a baby 7.3 power stroke until high revs. But I mean the 3.5 isn’t as good sounding as a coyote or 4.6 modular but it keeps up stat wise and from what I’ve seen reliability as well
First of all this is a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (not an srt). The Trackhawk quarter mile time is 11.7 seconds stock. The Ford Explorer is an ST, and that stock will do 13.9 seconds in the quarter mile. So therefore this race was against a stock Trackhawk and a tuned Explorer ST, to clear up any confusion. Really good race btw!
Yeah.. pretty sure you cant even get a V6 ecoboost in the explore.... if you can that would be sick! Having the engine from the f150 to the explore, Id buy that instead of the crappy 2.3 liters..
The SRT Jeep is the vehicle equivalent of the 45 year old dad that wears affliction clothing and yells at his wife in public. The Explorer ST is the classy dad that was a college athlete and still stays in shape, but is super humble.
More like a frat boy thay gets tattoos all the time to look cooler than the football lineman. St always getting mods to beat the chunky jeeps and dodges.
Explorer is heavily tuned, and modified. But it doesn't take much to get a lil more out of the twin turdbo ecoboost v6. Stock they're 400hp 411lb-ft tq.
@Hammock Shark no there just wont be a stick shift Shelby, since the GT350 is dead (which was manual only), and the only Shelby theyre making now is the GT500 (DCT only). The 5.0s, Mach 1s, etc will still come in a stick
NO. Them discontinuing cars is a smart business move. Cars are hugely competitive but don't sell as much as Trucks or SUVs, and Ford saw the writing on the wall with the competition's sales figures considered. We would never get the Ford Bronco or well-developed Mustangs & Ford trucks if Ford kept pumping money into econoboxes that saw little return. Cars were a dying plant in their garden, and it was time to take it down. They only work for Toyota & Kia. I'm glad Ford ditched cars to focus on their trucks & mustangs.
Simon Corriere no you don’t define stock as “tuned” stock is off the show room floor and no work done at all, putting a tune on a turbo car is a night and day difference in power. They were great races but the eco boost isn’t making stock boost at all
These are so evenly matched. Trap speeds only 1-2mph difference! Good racing there. Truly comes down to the driver when you have vehicles that evenly matched.
The lower lane seemed to hook better and at least the first race it appeared that the Jeep got tree'd by the Ford. The cuts were really tight but they were both doing within 2 hundreds. Nice tune on the Ford but in all likelihood the Hemi will probably still be able to do this 50-60k down the road with some fresh tires while the Ford will likely need something rebuilt...nothing against either just the ecoboost is going to be more stressed while the Jeep's entire drive line was built from the factory to handle the extra output
@@MrDavidelliottjr they may not be "really needed" but they are still there and they did give the Ford an advantage that the Jeep appears to not have as it looks like it's on street tires. Also, AWD and all, you can hear the Jeep feathering his throttle to reduce wheel spin from the street tires on the start.

People sleep on the Eco Boosts. The "eco" has always been a red herring. They put torque to the ground, and with a $500 tune they easily crank torque numbers off the charts right off the lot. Sound wise, its not even close, that 392 sounds like a rabid grizzly. The Eco was clearly on super meaty drag radials The SRT looks like it was running some ugly ass skinny sidewall street slicks. probably a good bit stickier than all seasons but the flexion on the rubber probably dulled his potential hookup speed. be nice to know the power and weight of both of these, No doubt the ST has some crazy high torque numbers.

There's a decent change the explorer is stock because it only has 400hp compared to the Jeep's 475, but it weighs 500lbs less and has a quicker 10 speed auto vs slightly slower 8 speed auto in the jeep
@@2cars10 you can hear a supercharger, when it pans onto the front view of the cars running. Sounds like a dodge/chrysler/jeep blower, so it's probably a trackhawk which means the jeep is pushing way more than 475. Also means the explorer must be tuned as HELL or even had an engine swap. I could be wrong tho, maybe the explorer is charged or tuned. But regardless there's a good chance the ST isn't stock. Tires are a big factor too
These results actually make sense. The wheel and tire setup on the Ford is much better suited for drag racing. And the V6 may give the Ford a better power to weight ratio.
You know whats even crazier, that is a fucking Trackhawk. I remember the old Explorer Sports tuned and even running E85 could barely beat Srt Jeeps. However this Explorer St is literally running identical if not a slight bit faster than the Trackhawk. That's impressive to say the least.

i’m pretty sure the jeep is a trackhawk meaning it’s has the hellcat engine. because i heard supercharger noise in the vid and the hawk on the back right just about the bumper. if that eco boost can keep up with a 700 horsepower awd monster. then i’m genuinely impressed ford. keep up the good work.
While it is impressive and amazing that the EcoBoost can make this much power and be this fast with just a tune, they have proven to be not as reliable as the 392 Hemi. If Ford wants to truly challenge mopar from the factory they need to make an Explorer ST with either the 450hp raptor ecoboost or the coyote v8. Ford should also put the GT500 engine in the Explorer and make the first vehicle that can best the trackhawk.
Its a Trackhawk cause SRT comes with Red brake calipers and Trackhawks only come in yellow. Plus listen to 1:25 as you can hear the supercharger noise.

They put the 3.5 twin turbo in the Taurus SHO before they put it in the Explorer Sport. Didn’t save the Taurus though.

These are so evenly matched. Trap speeds only 1-2mph difference! Good racing there. Truly comes down to the driver when you have vehicles that evenly matched.
Is it just me or did the Jeep start early most of the time
Oh yeah
Jeep had better ET than Ford he didn’t start early
I he started early he would have red lit.
