  • Showing the progress on Wheel 3. This was the worst of the group that needed the most grinding & sanding to re-contour it back into decent shape.
I used a drenmel flap Wheel on the spoke damage & feathered into the OEM finish. Then I moved on to the rim of the wheel. This required a 60 grit disk on a velcro drill attachment to sand everything past the gouges & re-level the surface, blending it back smooth. I followed up with course (brown) medium (red) & blue (fine) scotchlock pads on a drill. I went over the spokes with the scotchlock pads as needed to smooth & level the surface.
Final treatment is 320 hand sanding to get an even finish for the metal etching primer. I will wash everything down before a full 320 sanding with a red a scotchbrite pad & dawn dish soap. That will get the surface even scuffed & super clean.

Looks like the Redline rims are painted originally vs a clear powdercoat on top of the Aluminum? I've got another couple of sets and want to get a set powder coated.

Yes, they have a primer layer, then the silver & then cleared. Definitely not a typical machined or polished aluminum with just a clear over like the OEM ones I have.
