    • @MightyRoos
      @MightyRoos Месяц назад

      I would hardly call this a major upset. Recent times by both Australia and the U.S going into this final were evenly matched. Also Australians had their issues. Grant Hackett was suffering from a lung infection and Michael Klim had been out injured the previous years and lacked competitive racing with this event been his only race of the Athens games. There was always going to be such a fine margin between success and failure. Strategically the U.S got it right. Still even today looking back on it, it’s a great race to rewatch.

      @@toivonencresto Yes but he is not as good as Thorpe obviously. And the 200 isn't even his best race, the 400 he is still clearly behind Thorpe but more competitive with him than the 200. For him it was still an incredible effort to hold him off even with the lead. That is the point. I don't see what is so confusing about that. It is similar to how Bruce Hayes did well to hold off Gross in 84, it does not matter that he had a clear lead.

    What an weird comment by the female announcer at 6:32, Keller has trained his whole life to breathe to the left. It would throw him off even more, if he suddenly switched his breathing side.

    Technically the US were better. Going into the 4 leg you put your life on Thorpe getting over Keller. But a couple of brilliant turns by Keller allowed him to hold on.

      6 years ago when this comment was posted the USA had 320 million and Australia had 18.5 million, the Americans swam in sync with the rest of the world, The Australinas had to travel from the ends of th earth to compete.

    With the Americans ALWAYS boasting they are the BEST and the RICHEST and with 350 million of them versus just over 20 million Australians it is always good to SOMETIMES...get reality into perspective!

      The Americans are the best. Even many of the elite non-American swimmers come to America to train.

      That is a bullshit excuse of yours. Your population excuse is bullshit. China should have dominated this since they have 1.3 Billion people to choose from. You are forgetting that USA has top notch facilities and excellent system on top of your population excuse. That's what makes USA great. Your statement is the reason why USA is great. Period!
