not sure yet, currently waiting for the X modell but also for firmware updates just to see what panasonic can furhter improve here... i read that it still switches back to dfd in certain recording modes so atm im not sure if i might skip the S5 II and II x completely and wait for an S1 II wich hopefully will have some sort of 4k120 , i mean common, A7S3 came out literally years ago and has it and right now it looks to me like the S5 II cant handle it because its using the same old and quite slow sensor readout but yeah, like i said, curios to see what panasonic will update via firmware.

Great video... As an S5 owner, I think I need to remember that it's the same image! I absolutely love my S5, and Sam's S5 II walkthrough actually helped me learn a few techniques to use with the OG S5 - an absolute steal now the S5 II is out... Open gate and 5,9k are better yes but not as good as the S1 because there is details filtering in low light .I had already seen some examples before buying the S5 ii but it was even worse when I've compared the camera myself with my S1. I don't know if I must return the camera, I love love the new stabilization and the new autofocus but the IQ is not as good as the S1.

@@jayjayjaythebrand Right, Cine-D's tests have shown that the S5 has (slightly) better IQ than the S5II in most cases. But I'm 100% with you that the new features & quality of life upgrades are worth it for me. I went from S5 to an X-T4, and just now bought the S5II. This is coming from a solo filmmaker perspective, where I'm sometimes having to run multiple angles by myself.

I kind of just “fell into” an S5 w/ Sigma 45mm f2.8 and a shutter count of 0 for $1000 with all the original packaging. I’m a Canon guy (APS-C rebel & 70D), but this is my first full frame that isn’t an old manual film camera (Canon F-1) so now have a whole slew of terminology I’ve never dealt with before I get to learn. (Example: I’ve never heard of “shutter angle” before) Admittedly, I’d never even heard of the S5 till I stumbled across this “used” camera. Couple of hours of furious reading and I learned all I needed to pull the trigger.
Looking forward to learning all the things.

As someone who only points the camera away from me, the S5 works fine. I own numerous vintage lenses that offer a less clinical rendering for video, and contrast AF is plenty snappy enough for stills. Also, some deals have meant the S5 is almost half the launch price of the Mk II when extra lenses, grips and batteries are taken into account. That said, when prices settle down (my S5 was significantly cheaper than at launch a few months earlier) phase detect AF is clearly the way forward for L-mount and vlogging.

Not sure if you’ve seen the CineD lab tests on the S5ii? Might sway some video purists to stick with the S5 or the S1/S1H. It’s minor, but seems that the image processing just isn’t quite as good on the S5ii and there is some added sharpening/processing going on. That said I can’t imagine it will ever be noticeable for most people. I’m suddenly considering a used S1 as I’ve been shooting a lot of multi aspect ratio content recently which has been driving me a bit crazy, ha, and I’d like the option of 6K open gate.

  • @jeffreyhawker9042
    @jeffreyhawker9042 Год назад

    Per the B&H website:
    6K and 4K Video Recording
In addition to stills, the S5 IIX sports highly capable video recording assets. Full-frame 6K30p recording with 4:2:0 10-bit color can be captured for up to 30 minutes, while unlimited video recording is possible when filming in DCI and UHD 4K60p 4:2:2 10-bit mode. The camera supports 120p video capture for videographers who want to create high-resolution slow-motion video, and RAW HDMI output is possible via an optional license upgrade.
Do you have to upgrade the 5S IIX to be able to record in ProRes RAW via the HDMI?

Love my S5, still no compelling reason to upgrade even after the new v3.0/v2.0 upgrade for the S5ii/IIX. I've spent years perfecting my manual focus focus pulls from the GH4 on up to the S series full frame. Running in MF with excellent follow focus setup, I an assure 100% focus results every single time with no pulsing. For those that know the 6K Photo hack, both 3:2 open gate (5183x3456) and 4:3 open gate modes (4992x3744) are possible, although 15 minute limits and H.265 200Mbps bitrate. I already own an Atomos Ninja V plus Atomos Connect, so Camera-to-Cloud I have that and more proxies choices than even the S5 IIX. Also the S5 II (with RAW license) and the S5 IIX do not offer any newer RAW modes than the OG S5. With my gimbal, the new electronic stabilization is also not a need. Granted, the S5IIX can do a lot more with less weight, but I already own all this kit and it's fully paid for. Bring on the S1H II with 8K and 50MP sensor with very low rolling shutter and I'll be interested.

I use my 9 year old DSLR and pixel 6 for hybrid work. My work is predominantly social media content, so its very often very fast and very little planning involved. I have both and I'm shocked at how so many reviews say the image is the same. The orignial S5 has some clear differences. The color is totally different. I can tell right away this was shot on the S5ii as it has much more yellow and green tones vs the S5. I have the S5, the S1, and the S1ii. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but it seems weird that it isn't pointed out more. I mean this comparison shows it clear as day - ruclips.net/video/cp7NY1njb50/видео.html&ab_channel=CameraOfChoice
Also some minor points are there, like HLG is MUCH more sharpened in camera on the S5ii than the S5. Reducing sharpen to -5 vs 0 on the orignal S5 definitely helps.

Hi Josh, quick question (if you dont mind):
It looks like the viewfinder on the mk2 is longer. Does this result in a more comfortable shooting experience? As a left eye photographer, my nose is constantly rubbing on the AF selector. I did try to get better eyecups, but the one available is hard plastic.
Would be a great reason to upgrade! Either that, or I need my nose shortened.
    Cheers!

What I believe it’s actually doing is stitching 30 6k images per second that can be extracted as a high quality photo but can be pulled as a 6k video. But the caveat is it’s 15 minutes time limit. But, hey, it’s still real impressive and useable.

NOTE to 1080 50\60 users !!! no PDAF... only DFD.
    Hey all,
There have been a surprising number of questions regarding PDAF utilization when shooting FHD. This is the info that I have directly from Lumix that I can share. I know nothing else at the time:
1.) FHD with Full Image Area switches to Contrast DFD for 50/60p only.
2.) FHD with Full Image Area in 24,25,30p are all using PDAF. (Sorry, I told someone otherwise recently, but this is the correct ifno).
3.) All other image area options (Pixel / Pixel and APS-C) in FHD are PDAF at all 24,25,30,60p.
4.) No matter what the image area is, anything over 60fps uses DFD.
4.) When shooting in any of the 6K resolutions (16x9, 17:9, 3:2 etc) - PDAF is always used. When HDMI is plugged in, Subject Detection is lost, however.
This doesn't mean that you can't get good results tracking things / people in 6K with HDMI plugged in though. You could, for example, set it to 1-Area, make the AF Area medium sized and in the center, and then keep your subject in the center. I haven't experimented with this, but I'd like to!

The S5 II will be great if you want to hand the camera to your friend to take videos of you.
Even if he is not a good videographer you know things will be in focus.
I have the S5 I and I like that I will learn on it and maybe it will force me to adapt and understand how focusing works so that if and when I get a second body I will reap all the benefits it provides.
In addition I am really curious what the S1 II will be.
If it offers a flip out screen and a better sensor and processor for 500$ more - maybe this will be my second body.
The good thing for S5 I owners is that they can wait. They still have an amazing camera!
