- Can't get much more raw than this unless I ditch the knee sleeves and belt. Figured I'd just walk and talk you through a complete session while dealing with a potential illness. Sorry for the weird audio at times but I was blasting music and tried to remove it in post so I didn't get flagged for copyright.

I love these training videos. This raw, longer format was also enjoyable. It motivates me to train more also.
Appreciate it man!
And can't go wrong with Metallica
I enjoyed the video format, talking through your thoughts and what you’re doing during your workout. May add some things to my workout routine.
Noted! In the future I'll try to make these more concise lol.
This type of video was cool Brandon. Thanks for sharing. You really show your discipline by inching into the workout at first, and then making it a great one, despite you mentioning not feeling your best at the start. Hope you feel better!
Thanks man, I def was appreciative of ending up having a solid session!
Always inspiring and authentic. Much appreciated!
Thanks my man!
Videos are always Boss and a learning tool for movements that I need to make adjustments in my own workouts. Feel better!!!
Thanks my dude
I love this loose format, dropping some wisdom along the way @basement brandon
Appreciate it. I think if I actually plan these out a little I can make them more to the point 🤡
I agree these videos are very helpful with my own training.
Yeah i like the v log format too
Great video! Enjoy these vlogs!
Thank you!
Love the stand alone bench setup to compliment the power rack. Really gives the gym more of a commercial feel.
I end up supersetting a lot as well as compete in powerlifting so it just made sense at the time
Love the Maiden/Priest sound track.
Good ear!
I loved this training vlog! Simple, nice to listen to, informative.
Appreciate the feedback!
Most enjoyable video I've seen of yours in some time. The product reviews and gym updates are great, but I subscribed years ago when training footage was the main feature on this channel and I find myself skipping a lot of the newer vdieos (I know plenty of people like them). This was fun to watch.
Thanks for that feedback!
Love these vlog videos. I definitely want to see more of them.
Thanks dude!
‘Good for me’ Exactly right bro.
Good for u.
Good grind.
Hah being mic'd up is a bit weird 🙃
Enjoyed the journey...Good to watch how you progress up to your work sets
Thank you!
Love this type of video. Keep it up!
Thanks for the feedback!
Love the format. Also. Respect for rocking the old school Death Angel. Lol!! We’re oldish.
Might be older, but your hearing is still on point lol.
Good session and I appreciate being able to tag along. Bummer about being under the weather! I too have been fighting off a mild cold but feeling lucky it’s only minor. Feel better my friend!!
Good news is I think i'm on the upswing 🤞
This video format is pretty neat like others have mentioned. Reminds me of the mic’d up training videos that Barbell Medicine did recently. Good way to hear little tidbits about training. 😉
The one thing I miss about the old videos from when I went to the commerical gym was sitting in the car before or after the session and talking. I do not miss the lifting footage with obnoxiously loud techno playing over top though lol.
The way Sam Sulek just changed how everyone is now producing fitness content is insane :D
I mean I was making videos like this 13 years ago lol.
Can you make a video on the leg extension machine? I've been looking for one but all the ones I've used so far don't feel like the machines at commercial gyms
I think he has one from when he ordered it back some time ago?
I'll try to make an updated video.
More videos like this. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback!
Dual ear infections suuuuuuuuuucks man. I'm prone to getting them when the weather gets colder. Hope you feel better soon!
Me too 🥲
Great vid. Would love to see a review video on the leg extension machine
You got it!
I was like why is he walking around so funny, then I noticed you had your Pioneer sleeves on😂 Thanks for taking us along with this one, Brandon!
Try to wear them and your oly lifting shoes while pooping. Fun times.
@@BasementBrandon no thanks. My foot goes numb as is in that scenario😉
I liked the style of video, I mean I like the equipment videos but I don’t have any need/room/money for more equipment but I do still training so these are good to watch before the gym to get in the zone!
Thanks boss man!
Good man. My main issue over the last few years has been consistency. When ever I feel even slightly under the weather I skip the gym. I love the working out and need to do better! Keep up the good fight.
I don't think that's a bad thing necessarily. In some cases you're doing more harm than good training while sick. It's the long game that counts, so as long as you're in there more days than not, you're good.
@@BasementBrandon Aye. Cheers for the sage advice. Respect as always. Speaking of, off to nail leg day 🙂
Your conditioning is fantastic! I'm always breathing heavily after multi-rep squats, even bench sometimes. I almost wondered, "Does he edit out when he's catching his breath?"
I'm prob not training hard enough lol
More videos like this, please!
Appreciate the feedback!
Really like the raw training format, Yes I do want an updated review of the leg ext/curl machine. Particularly curious about the resistance curve since is on a pivot. Do you feel any stretch at the bottom of either movement or is it super easy at the bottom and really hard at the top (this is all based on the ton of new science coming out about the long-length stretch being so important).
Will try to touch on that. One of the reasons I got this model is for the band pegs and being able to use a band to cut down on that weightless feeling.
During Squat warm ups I heard a little Iron Maiden with "Waisted Years" one of my favorite workout songs.
I'm not an Maiden fan but I love the song "Waisted Years"
Very Cool
Good ear!
You make 445 look so dang light!
Don't sleep on your own accomplishments. I see you out there loading up that bar with bumpers!
These style of videos are great! Using the 🐐 John Haack to motivate in the background as well. Always a plus when u can add more weight that expected. I’m usually the reverse, stripping stuff off 😅
John has some bangers in his videos lol.
Love these types of videos and the Asian man squat for a warm up! Equipment review is awesome too though 🤣
Thanks Nick!
Brandon love these style videos. Good to watch preworkout. Couple QQs on your setup…
How much clearance do you suggest on the sides of your rack for barbell, plate loading, etc. your squat rack looks really close to your bench and door, but maybe just video angles?
Do you bolt anything down? Your bench looks like maybe yes but tough to tell. How do you keep it in place if not? Thanks!
Thanks for the questions! For the rack, there's still sufficient space from the door so that it can open without issue and still get plates on and off. If your rack abuts a wall on the side how much space you leave is going to depend on you. A normal bar is around 86" so you'll want at least another 6" per side IMO so that you don't bang your wall and/or can still get plates on and off easily.
For bolting, None of my equipment is, this is going to depend on how big the piece is and if there is anything to counter balance it. My rack takes up a pretty large footpring but it's also weighed down by over a thousand pounds of weights. I actually have a video from a few years back talking about if you need to bolt or not.
8:05 I do the same as I warmup. Its especially good if I'm squatting the day after bench or bicep work, allows you to stretch the sore muscles and ease into my grip width.
Glad I'm not alone!
All I want for Christmas is that Bar Don’t Lie hoodie
Maybe I should make some more 😅
@@BasementBrandonI’d totally buy one
Hope you feel better man I run for about 40 mins now before lifting definitely helps
Dang!
@@BasementBrandon I changed my routine a lot I only lift 3x a week and do cardio 6x. Run about 5 miles, lift, do cycling up to 10 miles on my smart trainer, then do a hike/jog (inclines to 40) on my treadmill. Once my rower gets in tomorrow I’ll add that in I bit the bullet and ordered the concept new. I want to focus on overall strength and endurance vs just being jacked and cut I’ve always had that
Awesome video! It's interesting to understand how you utilize velocity information to inform your RPE. Not that it matters, but for fun, what bar did you choose for the squat and bench?
I prob should have covered that. Today was the Ivanko OBX 20kg 29mm. It's a muted knurl, but there's a good amount of space between the plates so I don't bang the rack and it's a really solid bar.
If you add a piece of pipe to the band peg attachment on your leg extension leg curl the band will stop tearing
Stay big 💪🏻🤙🏼
Interesting you say that, I've been thinking something like that may work.
SOOO GOOOD!
🙏
Thanks for the video. I watched it all the way through. Can we get an update on the leg extension machine?
You bet!
Brandon that was a good call on Wasted Years playing in the background. And welcome to the masters lifter lifestyle. After a while everything hurts. I just finished work for day 1 this week and it felt pretty good for an old man. I'm enjoying playing with the new gym equipment. After 5 years of gym ownership I finally have nice plates. That Rogue hundo pricing saved $300+ on my kg plates. I did click on your affiliate link. Hopefully you got something off my $2200 spent.
Good ear man! Glad you were able to get some good deals (I held off) and super appreciative of you using my link!
Came in to the comments to see if anyone else caught the Maiden playing 🤘
@@timk8258 Luckily RUclips's copyright system didn't catch it either lol
Love this content. Highly relatable for me personally. A question... Do you experience positional hypotension? I often approach blackout just standing up and I wonder if you experience that as a taller guy.
Occassionally, but I find a lot of it depends on how I'm breathing/bracing and my blood sugar
What leg accessory movement is your fav?
I dig GHRs and typically try to add them 2x a week.
Any update videos on your equipment will always be appreciated. Have you been using the flywheel machine (can't remember the exact name) in your training.
I've only played with it briefly. Need to figure out a way to integrate!
I like this kind of video. Namely a little more detail on the big lifts and at least touching on the accessory stuff. Especially since it gives a peak at how you use all that basement full of nice equipment. Also, curious why you seem to prefer squatting in flat shoes vs elevated heel lifting shoes? Not judging, just looking for perspective. Been using lifting shoes off and on but considering going flat for a while. Seems I get knee pain a little more in the lifters.
I made a video on this a few months ago, but for me I find my ROM seems to be similar in either, however withi heels I find myself leaning forward a bit more which puts a bit more stress on my knees.
I'd like to see the leg ex/curl update. When you did the original, I thought maybe would see more often on YT (even with the cost of it). I would like to compare back-to-back the high-end version with something like Powerline sold at Dick's. Curious how huge the difference is. I haven't used a plate-loaded version in about 35 years. That was a Tom Platz Golden Eagle bench with a few attachments that was very similar to the Ironmaster system sold today (although that was more heavy duty, probably didn't last too long due to cost).
Will try to get this done. I don't show it a lot in vidoes as I usually only really film main compounds but enough people want to hear more about it.
review on the leg extension machine!
Will do
Great work! How do you keep motivated especially with kids around the house?
I havent hit the weights since mid Oct because of covid and my 1st child was born the week of thanksgiving. I just started training this week but the newborn hours are insane. Im barely get 4 hrs of broken sleep a day. 😂
Maybe I can make a video talking about that, but I agree, the first 6 months or so are really hard to get a consistent schedule. What worked for me was finding time where I could, even if that meant my training would get cut short 30 min in due to a short nap, issue, etc. It made me be more efficient overall. But in the long run know that things get a bit easier once the little one gets more consistent in sleeping, eating, etc.
ruclips.net/video/NQlHBvg6Cgw/видео.htmlsi=dIGBa0iFrXzOOsp_
Check out this video from Allan Thrall. He talks about training after a newborn. Seems like he just fits in training where he can. 10 minutes here and there.
i actually lost strength on my hypertrophy phase on the program hope the strength portion amps it up past the levels the were at. Also recovering from an injuring falling so that could of been why but like the wave system i got stronger at 10s. great video love the strength wave
How did you quantify the loss of strength?
@@BasementBrandon my bench took the hit. You mentioned in the past powerbuilding part of the program is not as intense. Do you find coming out of hypertrophy block helps general strength enough? Cause I'm gaining weight slightly.
@@DanielRodriguez-xe1zx Yeah my struggle was it never really went overly heavy. Once you get into the strength block you should see the return of top sets. I would also suggest upping the weight manually if you feel the recommended is too light.
@@BasementBrandon okay that's just not me, good to know. Definitely going to push the rpe maybe up on those.
Nice work. Thanks for sharing. Your legs are very strong. Are you gaining weight? I know you mentioned that a while ago after your meet. Stay strong!
I've been hovering around 227 the past 6 months or so, which is up about 10lbs from what I've weighed the last few years. I'm not very happy with how I look currently so I may try to drop down more towards 220 as the weather gets warmer.
Is there a reason you removed the Rogue chain silencers ? Saw your review a few days ago and was going to purchase them on my next Rogue order.
I have them on the chains that live on my weight tree. I like both but sheathless looks more hardcore 😝
It's like we worked out together!
Luckily I didn't include any angles that show my small shrine to you.
Every now and then I get the itch to get a velocity tracker. Only a matter of time before I pick one up
I like it, but it's hard to recommend b/c I don't use it to it's full potential and this one is expensive.
@@BasementBrandon are there any cheaper ones that are still reliable that you know of? Seems like ~$500 is the standard.
@@StephColbertsonStrength I haven't looked into them too much TBH. The price always turned me off. I got this one 2nd hand so was like $100 or so off.
I've been on the fence about getting a velocity tracker so I can gauge my RPE bit better. Do you have to find your one rep max speed to essentially get your average?
So I can only really speak on the RepOne I use. What I do is track top sets (including heavy singles) to get an idea of how things moved to pair that with how they felt/look on film. Once you use it frequently enough you get an idea of how speed relates to your normal rating (for example my bench at 9-10 is going to be around .12 m/s). You also should be inputting all this info into the app as you complete sets (weight and rpe) and it will track projected 1rm over time.
Nice video! What barbell are you squatting with?
Ivanko OBX 29mm 20kg! Great bar, just a bit expensive with passive knurling
More of this.
🤘
Hey B, do you have any recommendations for recovery of lower back? Pulled something in the lower lumbar doing deadlifts yesterday and im hurtin bro
When I pull or hurt something I usually do rounds of ibuprofen like 2-3x a day for a few days and just try to take it wasy.
How often do you use the CB-4 bar? Heard it helps with bench too
In my last training block I used it once per week. Used it for paused chain squat work!
Is nobody going to talk about that banner placement above the door while you squat hahaha
🤐
Watching this before I train. Finally removed the trolley arms? Cool video…
About a year or so ago!
"Aint nobody got time for that, Old man is tight, been sitting waaay too long, feels good" lol I might incorporate some of this stretching as I only take like 5 min to stretch, this should be called RAW Mobility VLOG lol good stuff! question: why not use the VBT while doing warmups to see how they move before jumping to top set? I believe the difference between larsen and feet up is that a Larsen press allows you to be in a position with your scapula that’s similar to your competition style bench press while when doing feet up you are completely flat but you dont have a scapula because you dont even arch lol.
I will usually have it on for some of the warm ups, but a lot of that data is just junk for me so don't feel like tracking.
Where did you get the front extensions for the pull up bar?
Irwin Fitness
Master Master!!!!14:15
Haha even though it's distorted it still comes through!
What time in the day do you usually train? Lunch hour? I’m an after dinner kind of guy
Usually not eariler than 11am and not later than 2:30pm. So depending on my work schedule, the hours vary. I'd say most common is around 12:30/1. Evening is tough b/c that's my dedicated family time.
@@BasementBrandon I’ve tried before work around 430 am but that’s absolutely miserable so late in the evening it is
Been raking leaves in the Northeast? With those symptoms, I'd get a Lyme test stat!
Haha you know it! Haven't seen any bites and when I'm out there I'm always fully covered, but a good thing to look into if issues persist
Hope you feel better soon, i wonder what is causing the pain.
Even though the test was negative, I'm thinking it is something Covid related. Felt better last night so hopefully on the mend!
It’s possible you’re using a different metric, but if using meters/second, which I think is RepOne’s default “key” stat, isn’t a higher number actually “better”, i.e, faster? It’s equivalent to MPH, just much smaller numerator and denominator obviously for distance (meters) and time (seconds). 14:45
Yep. What I was meaning that even though that set in question moved at .48 m/s, it wasn't far off of the .52 from the set before, but I increased the weight 10lbs. So similar speeds (albiet a bit slower) with more weight.
Brandon Sulek
I miss the old training videos I used to do in the car outside the gym 😢
My feet up bench max is close to my normal bench max as well. 🤷♂️
Team no leg drive 😅
What machine is that for leg extension/curl?
It's from Williams Strength, but EliteFTS also sells it.
anyone know what velocity tracker my guy here is using?
RepOne
Thank you brother!@@BasementBrandon
Damn, it sucks getting old😅. But hey, your arms look bigger than a few months ago. Blessings♥️
Smaller shirts
Where did you get that bar extension @2:09?
I had Irwin fitness make it for me.
Thanks Brandon! Love this community. Wish we had some CrossFit content creators in it too. That extension is perfect for kipping!
@@3r123that’s basically what I was after from a design standpoint. Those flying pull up bars are great but added too much vertical height.
@@BasementBrandon came to the comments looking for this question as I'm on the taller side for pull up bars. Is this a content creator exclusive, or do they do custom work for anyone?
@@kyneticfx I'm pretty sure Garth from Irwin offers these for sale now.
