  • Can't get much more raw than this unless I ditch the knee sleeves and belt. Figured I'd just walk and talk you through a complete session while dealing with a potential illness. Sorry for the weird audio at times but I was blasting music and tried to remove it in post so I didn't get flagged for copyright.

    Really like the raw training format, Yes I do want an updated review of the leg ext/curl machine. Particularly curious about the resistance curve since is on a pivot. Do you feel any stretch at the bottom of either movement or is it super easy at the bottom and really hard at the top (this is all based on the ton of new science coming out about the long-length stretch being so important).

    • @BasementBrandon

    Brandon love these style videos. Good to watch preworkout. Couple QQs on your setup…
    How much clearance do you suggest on the sides of your rack for barbell, plate loading, etc. your squat rack looks really close to your bench and door, but maybe just video angles?
    Do you bolt anything down? Your bench looks like maybe yes but tough to tell. How do you keep it in place if not? Thanks!

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the questions! For the rack, there's still sufficient space from the door so that it can open without issue and still get plates on and off. If your rack abuts a wall on the side how much space you leave is going to depend on you. A normal bar is around 86" so you'll want at least another 6" per side IMO so that you don't bang your wall and/or can still get plates on and off easily.
      For bolting, None of my equipment is, this is going to depend on how big the piece is and if there is anything to counter balance it. My rack takes up a pretty large footpring but it's also weighed down by over a thousand pounds of weights. I actually have a video from a few years back talking about if you need to bolt or not.

      I prob should have covered that. Today was the Ivanko OBX 20kg 29mm. It's a muted knurl, but there's a good amount of space between the plates so I don't bang the rack and it's a really solid bar.

Especially since it gives a peak at how you use all that basement full of nice equipment. Also, curious why you seem to prefer squatting in flat shoes vs elevated heel lifting shoes? I'd like to see the leg ex/curl update. When you did the original, I thought maybe would see more often on YT (even with the cost of it). I would like to compare back-to-back the high-end version with something like Powerline sold at Dick's. Curious how huge the difference is. I haven't used a plate-loaded version in about 35 years. That was a Tom Platz Golden Eagle bench with a few attachments that was very similar to the Ironmaster system sold today (although that was more heavy duty, probably didn't last too long due to cost).

      Maybe I can make a video talking about that, but I agree, the first 6 months or so are really hard to get a consistent schedule. What worked for me was finding time where I could, even if that meant my training would get cut short 30 min in due to a short nap, issue, etc. It made me be more efficient overall. But in the long run know that things get a bit easier once the little one gets more consistent in sleeping, eating, etc.

    I've been on the fence about getting a velocity tracker so I can gauge my RPE bit better. Do you have to find your one rep max speed to essentially get your average?

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  7 месяцев назад

      So I can only really speak on the RepOne I use. What I do is track top sets (including heavy singles) to get an idea of how things moved to pair that with how they felt/look on film. Once you use it frequently enough you get an idea of how speed relates to your normal rating (for example my bench at 9-10 is going to be around .12 m/s). You also should be inputting all this info into the app as you complete sets (weight and rpe) and it will track projected 1rm over time.

    Been raking leaves in the Northeast? With those symptoms, I'd get a Lyme test stat!

      Haha you know it! Haven't seen any bites and when I'm out there I'm always fully covered, but a good thing to look into if issues persist

      Even though the test was negative, I'm thinking it is something Covid related. Felt better last night so hopefully on the mend!

    It’s possible you’re using a different metric, but if using meters/second, which I think is RepOne’s default “key” stat, isn’t a higher number actually “better”, i.e, faster? It’s equivalent to MPH, just much smaller numerator and denominator obviously for distance (meters) and time (seconds). 14:45

      Yep. What I was meaning that even though that set in question moved at .48 m/s, it wasn't far off of the .52 from the set before, but I increased the weight 10lbs. So similar speeds (albiet a bit slower) with more weight.
