  • Another magical and rare Jiminy Glick interview from my storage library that doesnt seem to be on RUclips so here it is! This one from one of my VHS but still VG quality... Mickey Rooney seems to get agitated and angry during this one which is interesting...almost like he thinks its a real I/V. "You played your tailor...who hasnt." "Whats it like to be #1?...(i didnt feel anything..) Because you were Sedated." Classic lines. Marty Short is a genius ENJOY!

    I met him in Vegas in 1980. I was on my honeymoon and waiting in the gazebo bar before a show we were attending. Cristopher Cross was performing before he got really famous. He announced us as honeymooners and played a song for us too slow dance to. Mickey stood and clapped for us. After the song he came over to our table and congratulated us and shook our hands. He was a class act.

The people and attitude. Had a few successes, was lucky and met the best people trying to find that history! Thank you Vegas. Keep it classy!

    I worried this was going to go over Mickey's head. And sometimes, it did...but his quizzical looks made me laugh out loud. Then at other times, he was enjoying the ride. And the last line of his showed he really enjoyed it. Not common to see the normally talkative, hyper Mickey get quieted by a more animated person. And loved it when he had a belly laugh at the "You were sedated!" line.

That question about Audrey Hepburn was beautiful. It was a clownish way to say she has seriously amazing image, what was it like to work with her. Here he seems like he's enjoying the craziness. (I worked with Martin Short decades ago. I agree with this about Martin Short a-la Jiminy. He's very quick with the sort of depricating (and also self-depricating) humour but he's not mean.... he keeps the other person laughing and is always watching their reactions and knows when to pull back. I can only think of once when someone appeared to have gotten genuinely miffed at the end.... when he interviewed Mel Brooks and kept asking him what he had against Nazis in his films. It was of course a ridiculous question, lol.
      Mel being Jewish and having lived through WWII firsthand this could have been a bit much for him emotionally, and later he walked offstage. Conan O'Brien walked offstage too but that may have been an act when Glick refused to listen to his sad story.... heh.

    Fun fact, in the early 90s Mickey Rooney was doing dinner theater in Calgary alberta. I was working as a teenager in high school at Stage West... They sent me to send some food backstage, I was about 16, I carried the tray back and I was in a good mood and I was whistling. I didn't think anyone was back there yet. There was this kind of throne thing that was left over from another production, and as I came to the door whistling, I heard a grouchy old man yell at me. " Hey kid what the f*** do you think you're doing?!". It was Mickey Rooney, sitting on this throne... he proceeded to curse me out, told me that whistling backstage was the worst luck in Showbiz. My tail between my legs, I quickly retreated to the kitchen...

    • @stevepotfora7461
      @stevepotfora7461 2 месяца назад +1

      Whistling in the theatre is considered bad luck. This superstition started in the middle of the 1600s when theatrical scenery began to fly. Sailors had extensive knowledge of ropes, rigging and knots and were hired backstage as run crew. Like on a ship, the sailors would communicate with each other through whistles to bring a backdrop in or out. Consequently, a whistling actor onstage could start a scene change early or get knocked out from incoming scenery.

    There's a real element of danger here because you're not sure if Mickey's gonna get the joke (which of course he did) and how he's gonna react. But still, I saw him berate & almost physically attack Robert Osborne in an interview once so you never know.

Jiminy mentioned he was on Rod Serling's Night Gallery (Rare Objects), but Mickey was also on the Twilight Zone (NIght of the Jockey). A great episode....SHRIMPPPPP!!!!!

    I agree pretty much with your assessment, Darren. In this piece, he seemed to go back and forth from thinking it's a real interview, to appreciating Marty's talent/humor. I'd like to know the vintage of this video. Years ago, I was part of a Palm Springs morning radio show with two other guys and we had Mickey in the studio one morning. It was the late '90s . . . I'm going to say '97 or so . . . and we certainly did not get in as much talking as the great Marty Short does here. Mickey talked almost non-stop. When we informed him we needed to take a commercial break, he kept on talking, oblivious to our requests. So my co-host cued the commercial and the mics were cut. Mickey kept on talking, still oblivious. I don't remember if he had headphones on or not--You'd think that would have slowed him down, so I guess not. Anyhow, we came back from commercial break, and he was still talking. I mean after the commercial, you hear Mickey, mid-sentence talking about something. Tears were coming down my cheeks I was laughing so hard. :o)

    I met Mickey Rooney at a Hollywood autograph show. As I scooted down on his left side, next to him seated in his chair, I went to put my hand on the back of his chair, but accidentally "touched his back" in doing so. Mickey INSTANTLY knocked me over on the carpet saying, "NO ONE TOUCHES ME!" I was wearing a dress and heels & actress Debbie Reynolds looked over & felt sorry for me. I picked myself up, I returned to my squatted position next to his chair, but was unable to smile for the photo. What I do remember, is that his teeth were SO OLD & ROTTEN, they looked like petrified wood stumps, in his mouth. So, I guess I'm in a rare group of Women who've been knocked to the ground by short-fused, short-tempered, short-statured Mickey Rooney.
