Shimano CURADO 300K SWIMBAITING IMPRESSIONS!!! My 1st time throwing BIG swimbaits

- The Curado 300k gets spooled up with some line and casts some swimbaits!
As an avid bait finesse guy I go to the opposite end of the spectrum and cast real swimbaits for the first time
DAIWA, SHIMANO, ABU GARCIA, LEWS, KASTKING, QUANTUM, 13 FISHING, CURADO, CITICA, CASITAS, CAENAN, CHRONARCH, METANIUM, ALDEBARAN, ANTARES, CALAIS, STELLA, CONQUEST, SUSTAIN, STRADIC, EXSENCE, STEEZ, ZILLION, TATULA, FUEGO, ALPHAS, REVO, CONCEPT Z, MGX, LUCKY CRAFT, MEGABASS, EVERGREEN, JACKALL, DEPS, IMA, G LOOMIS, MAJOR CRAFT, MGL, NRX, CRUCIAL, SV, PISCIFUN, BLACK MAX, BASS RISE, RYOGA, BANTAM, ADRENA, GLORIOUS, ULTIMA, EXIST, BALLISTIC, FREAMS, TRUMP, SCORPION, XF 50, BAIT FINESSE, HAIBO, STEED, EXIST, ICAST, SLX, TRANX, POISON, SENSILITE, ZEPHYR
I've got 40lb braid, tension high, two brakes on. With heavy lures I get great casts and no backlash. One of my favorite reals. Have it paired with a heavy rod and it rocks.
how many grams u can cast with the rod ?
You should use braided line (with a around 6 feet fluorocarbon or monofilament leader) as we use on swimbait rods for pike fishing in Europe 👍
Best channel ever for gear heads.
I use 20-30 flourocarbon most of the time or 65 to a shock leader
Ah, you’re a man of tactical Bassin I see
That's the only Flouro I use from 16lb and up. Hope they make smaller test someday
“If you got OCD about that.... Too Bad...” that’s funny and I have OCD... Great Test, as always man..
Was thinking about getting the 6:6:1 think that would work best for what your doing. Just got a irg804sb-h baileys swim 7,11. Going to put the 6:6:1 on it. Good lick. Also fishing from a boat higher speed reels are nice. Also i use 30 lbs braid line and the a 15 to 20 lbs leader. Go a little longer on leader. So it will absorb some of the force from casting. You can snap off your swimbait with out a longer leader.
Yeaaaaa!!!! I been waiting on the Alijos review. I’m hoping it’s a good one. I been hoping to get one for myself by Christmas.
You dont need to wait, there are many Russian reviews around. Go ahead and get it
@@AgradeCPteam there literally loads of Russian reviews out on this real ... I have nooooo idea what they are talking about though lol
I bought the lures (only 4 they are $) pole and haven’t got around to the reel yet. Seem like I’m gonna save up for a curado 300, thanks for the video keep them coming!
Im going to do a review on a budget swimbait reel soon. Only $99
@@THEREELTEST 😳 you got my attention, 🙏 thank you
You need to look into glide baits and soft baits.... smaller hudds and like the arashi glides are good.... you will destroy ur Pb if u commit. Look at tactical bassin for how to throw it... good luck
Been a fan of Tactical for years
Alright man, I'm what you would call a "swimbait guy" I guess so I'll try to help you with some of your questions.
1) DEFINITELY get the faster gear ratio if you're Fishing in current. However, lure choices make a difference. Slower speed for bottom baits like Huddleston swimbaits and faster for glide baits and multi joint baits.
2) 20lb test is fine, just not the kind you spooled with. You can get away with 17 for the baits you have in the video but most swimbait fishermen either use 20-30lb line, or 65-80lb braid to a leader. I prefer 25lb trikfish Copolymer for all my swimbait needs because I hate braid.
3) The savage gear shine glide (yes, it's still in production) and the s waver you have in the video are the two best baits you have by far. It looks like you're using the smaller versions of both though. Upgrade to the 7 inch shine glide and 168 S waver. The savage gear falls faster and has a slightly smoother glide and is also less noisy due to the bumpers in the joint. The s waver is much more reactive and loud and has a tighter glide in the water and also falls a little slower. If you thought the shine glide looked good in the water, wait until you upgrade and get into swimbait fishing heavy and you see a Deps 250 slide swimmer in the water for the first time!
Solid advice
Deps 250 in rainbow trout pattern produces
Finally... someone with some experience lol.
@@jasonbruno3483 That's how a lot of people are going to feel when I get my channel started I bet. Tired of people going "Well guys, I have no idea what I'm doing, but we're going to try it anyway!"
Little late to be posting on this video. There is a direct rival to this reel that you missed. The Tatula 200 is same (slightly more) capacity reel. Diawa and Shimano measure slightly differently. I’m one of those rare people that likes both Shimano and Diawa equally..... i love my DC Curados and Scorpions... but the standard Curado cannot hold a candle to the Tatula 150. The Curado 300 cannot hold a candle to the Tatula 200. I’d love to see you break down these reels against each other.
Just got the Scorpion 300 MD and can’t wait to get it out on the water.
Man I would die for one those poor dad over here work third shift all night get out once a week again sweet video bro nice work and dam nice reel
Goto alliexpress got the slx dc for 121 man no what u mean have three kids work and go home it takes a minute to get it but hey all the gear is awsome on there have lures lines rods reels and reel test guy goes on there to rawrfishingdoes love the website and u can get aything on there really helps out people that arnt rich if no what i mean if im gonna fish have to do in morning before work or on day off and if nana will watch my two other kids so me and my son can go catch a biggjn lol
Nice reel...Shimano all the way!
like you, i LOVE the way glide baits look in the water. i just started using them this past summer. my problem is, i get short strikes, and i have yet to catch anything on one. i feel like once i figure out how to use it correctly, they'll be killer
I had the same problem throwing 6inch. Went up in hook size on the front treble. It helped a little. Really starting catching them short strikers though down sizing my gill imitators to 5inch & my shad to 6inch. Have yet to catch a fish on any glide above 6 inches
I have the curado cu300 with a 7 foot 2 medium heavy extra fast action rod I use 12 pound trilene and it is the best rod and real combo I ever had I'm gonna try that same thing with this real hopefully it will work the same
Yeah I dont think that 12lb line will be enough. You may see your swimbait flying off into the distance with no line attached
@@THEREELTEST I'm going to use it for a Carolina rig
I like daiwa baitcasters, the magforce breakes are much easier and better. You dont have to open the reel All the time.
slightly easier to adjust? Yes, better? NO
@@THEREELTEST Okay maybe not better, but I really like my new daiwa tatula sv tw 2020. You only have to ajust the magforce, and it casts down to 4g, No problem (entusiast awarded at tackletour.com) (don't know if They are Impartial) Thanks for answering 👍
65-80lb Braid to a 20-25lb fluorocarbon shock leader or monofilament is the way to go.
Thanks for the great content and info. I like the higher gear ratio.
God bless you and keep up the good work.
Drop your spool of line in a bucket of water and wind it onto your reel under pressure using a towel. That should stop any coiling. If not, cast out, make it a long cast, then have someone else hold the line while you stretch it.
Sweet reel. Need one
I love my genesis II jr swim rod!
Hi mate
I have a piscifun alijos and I think it's a brilliant reel. I wonder what you'll think🤔
Tight lines bud 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Trash that’s why he doesn’t fish one
I hope it is. It looks like alot of reel for the money
@@THEREELTEST when will the video be online pls?
I need one of those. I want to get into swimbait fishing.
Im going to be doing a solid legit budget swimbait reel review coming soon
Your videos are my go to before every reel purchase 👍
I might have to get one of these
I prefer the higher gear ratio reels, you can always fish it slow, but when you miss that strike, or just a short bite, I can get the bait back fast and put it right back in front of the fish.
The 6.6.1 ratio gets 36 inches per turn.
Im going to be fishing under a dam when they are discharging and Ill be reeling against the current on every cast. I figure I need the torque of the lower ratio so I dont wear myself out. I also have the Alijos in a higher ratio so that played into the decision
I just started throwing swimbaits too
One thing that helped me cast big baits farther is purchasing rods that have longer handles. I used to use the Dobyns Champion 806 and 807, but I made the switch to the Low Down Customs White Label 8'H for most of my treble hook baits and the White Label 8'XH mostly for top hook/jig hook baits. Having that longer, beefier handle has given me LOTS of confidence throwing big baits. To be fair, I am 6'3, so having a longer handle than 16" has made a WORLD of difference for me. I throw my treble hook baits on a Shimano Tranx 300 and my softbaits on a Shimano Calcutta 400TE (old, but tried and true reel). Having a reel that has a non-disengaging level wind, or even the T-Wing system from Daiwa, does help in terms of helping with accuracy and distance. The LDC Rods are all true to their lure ratings, so if you want to purchase one when they are available again, buy with confidence! I recommend the 8'XH as your starting point. It will handle just about anything you throw at it. Welcome to the world of big baits!
Also, I know you religiously set your spool tension to minimize the side to side play, but try to loosen it up just a bit. It will help with casting distance.
Lunkers are lurking for that swimbait
Great information I would like the other Shimano300 reel that you are giving away 🤷🏾♂️
I have both of them I have Huddleston delux on a 7 power F5 customs brooms stick rod also for my big glide baits and that’s the one with the 4.7 on it but I still haven’t gotten a big boy on it and I’m just a tad unsure on the speed of which I’ll be able to reel in a fish that’s trying to swim right toward me which it seems all the big girls like to do I guess bc they’re smart and my 6.6 is on a dobyns 806 champion xp LH I like em both but don’t know how to work the brakes bc they’re not set up like usually with both on or off across from each it comes set up with on and off across from eachother
I have the perfect rod for one of those reels which isn't being used =O Here's hoping I'm lucky!
I’m seriously looking forward to the Alijos review. It’s a big “affordable “ reel I’ve been eyeing. Not a lot in RUclips land to go on about it though. I am glad to see you got one. I’ve been saving up to get one. So I hope is achieving a good reel.
Yeah me too. The specs for the price seems like it would be more popular.
@@THEREELTEST please do a review on the Alijos can't wait
I prefer braided line like 50-60lbs with a 25-30lbs mono/fluro/coplymer leader roughly about a yard or so, braid has less memories so you can get a bit further distance on your cast
Love the way you put things into perspective with the reels bro I’m learning. Will be a nice give away
what are your thoughts on the DMK Alpha SL. Looks like an exact copy of the kastking zephyr
it actually came out long before the zephyr but they are not exactly the same
I use 20 pound Sufix Siege on my tranx 400 and its smooth and limp. ditch that coil-ly copolymer and put on some Sufix Siege!
Do a casting distances video
I have the Alijoz reels in both gear ratios Piscifun offers. Solid reels for the money, and black friday had them at $85. They feel and sound a little gear-y (especially the 8.1:1) compared to comparable Shimano/Daiwa/Lews/Abu reels I have, but for the price they work very well, cast pretty dang far, and I've used mine several times now at Port Aransas from the shore and caught some big reds, black drum, and even a huge stingray. 33lbs of max drag is no joke!
Hey, with a glide bait it’s not a straight retrieve by the way, you have to twitch twice to get the best action
I use 20# fluoro for my swimbaits but I use seaguar invisix and it works good, I have a couple spools of that yo zury hybrid and honestly I didn't like it at all, they are just sitting there on my garage I probably will never use it again.
if i don't win this i'll go with slx xt....
i've been using sougayilang chinese bc reel and 30m is very far for me
gonna be my first shimano bc reel btw
Then as you see how the spool reacts to less brake then loosen accordingly
Tranx has the same brakes, and I've broken the little snaps off of two of them already. It came with extras, but yeah, not a fan. I wish it had the SVS system.
The 300 specifically. I think the Tranx 200 does have SVS.
Yeah the old style SVS had tabs on both sides of the brake block for easy activating and deactivating
If your still reading the comments on this video move your thumb up on the spool fully and it's much easier to keep from spinning under your thumb.
I need a new baitcaster to throw on my dobyns champion extreme hp . It’s a jig step looking for a fast gear ratio like 8 speed . It’s got to be super smooth and no more then 150usd . Pls drop recommendation . I WILL NOT FISH DIAWA DUE TO BAD BREAKS !
slx xt
That’s what I wanted to see
Great information!
Thanks for helping us all learn how to use these swimbaits. I am learning also. Also thanks to the other commenters that have helped with suggestions. They are all helpful.
Damn. I need one
20lbs is not too much. 15 is the bare minimum I would go. But with a fluro..
20lb holds up better to toothy critters. And 15 is great for the 5" or less swimbaits. Other than that I'd run 40-65 lb braid so I can throw weedless presentation swimbaits any and everywhere I can cast.
That Curado 300 looks the same size as the 200 in hand.
Damn I need one 😩
Waiting on mine to ship
With swim bait fishing braid is one of the best options for swimbaiting in my opinion but 20lb fluro is usually the ideal choice for the rod you have and for the baits. It all depends on what line you use
They should put the DC brakes in all reels
Ciao secondo te è adatto alla pesca del luccio con esche grandi fino a 80/90gŕ?
im your 300th like on this video, lol
Your fine with straight fluoro
I like faster speeds they can be fished slow and fast 😀
Wait so are the brakes engaged when they are clicked to the inside or outside position?
Outside the brake are on.
Would this reel work for 8oz swimbaits/glide baits and lower ???????
Or what is the heaviest bait you would throw on that reel
Run braid to leader. Casting is much better and further distance
Congrats on 30k. Well-deserved. Also entering myself in the giveaway 😃
Looks like you have some learning to do, just as those who go in the opposite direction. That rod isn't over powered, it looks about right with a slight bend in the tip.
I've been fishing full days with 4-5oz rubber baits without problems throwing up to 70-80 yards. But I'm used to it. I would probably have problems with bait finesse, not feeling the load up of the rod and the pull on the line.
its ok, I learn fast. Im already looking at a heavier powered rod, that 4 piece Okuma
@@THEREELTEST dobyns fury or irod gen ||| both great tor the price. I run 20lb fluoro. Braid is great if you can master the leader knot
where is the drt klash?
Im just starting out so Im not going to spend big bucks on a technique unless Im successful at it
Hope to get the 4.8 gear ratio
Can you do Tatula 300 vs Curado 300
Go with p-line 17 lbs moss green or p-line tactical 17 lbs
that's what i use, and i like it alot
Ditto
Ill look into those
Yes 20 lb is too much use 10-15
The duckett shad was surprisingly a good bait for me, especially comparing costs
Hey just a little something I will do when deactivating a break is to increase the tension knob just a smidge as a precaution.
Someone that used 170-190 size swimbait see the title "BIG" swimbaits like saying "Okay"
I feel like that every time I see a video of someone who never fished swimbaits before talking about "big" swimbaits.
@@jeremiahgiles3593 Well, considered that this guys is somewhat "biased" for a reel performance based on the capability of "finesse" application (although some of the reel was not meant for finesse to begin with). And has fished most of his time primarily finesse lure, I guess maybe by standard that is "BIG" for him?
Ditch that line spend a little for a quality like segaur invisex 20 to 30 pound
I switched to a Lew's SD wide spool and Okuma Glide bait rod and use 25lb sunline mono and cast between 50-65 yards a cast with glides and huddleston 68 special and U rigs.
I'm using 35g lure all day .. the next day my hands sored.. my wrist feels very painful
whats your catch rate? I heard its not uncommon to go several trips and not have a single bite
@@THEREELTEST nothin at all.. giant snakeheads lures are very heavy.. and using heavy cover reel and rods also quite heavy..
Do you ever use line conditioner?
This reel works very well for slow rolling spinnerbaits and pitching jigs in heavy cover.
Ps I catch alot of fish from shore mainly browns
I use 16lb test for 1-3 ounce baits
I throw a lot of swimbaits and anything an ounce or lighter I throw 15lbs. You want that lure doing it’s thing, not fighting line. An ounce to 4 I throw 20lb and anything over that I throw 25lb
fluorocarbon.
Yeah but Ill be switching up baits and probably throwing mostly those Shads. Because Im going to go for stripers under a dam and they get up to 60lb here
Do you think its worth getting the tranx than the curado?
eh.. probably if you are fishing saltwater or absolutely need the higher ratios the tranx offers.
Tranx has svs brakes.... so yes much better
20 lb line definitely not to big with the more expensive flouro's. I actually throw 22-25lb sunline flippin fc, 17-20lb abraz x with most of my swimbaits. That particular line is just really thick compared to most other lines.
Thanks, was actually hoping to see how well straight 25# Sunline would work on this reel.
@@paulzoch3279 i am running 25lb lb tatsu and abraz x on 2 300 size reels and its thicker than 25lb sniper.
I would think the slower one right sense its fast water
thats my thoughts especially reeling the lures in against the current
What's the JDM version of the Curado 300?
No direct JDM version but there is the Grappler 300 which is closer in spec to the tranx 300
@@THEREELTEST gotcha. When you mentioned the jdm having micro gears I went looking for a new big frame Scorpion I hadn't heard about haha
Best not to cast really hard with the big swimbaits on there. Because if something hangs up. Your going to watch you 20$ 100$ lure going flying away to never be seen again. If your using a bigger swimbaits then your rod can cast. Side hand the cast. Don’t cant super hard. Your shoulder / arm will be dead by end of s few hours.
I have two different swimbait setups. For top hook/jig hook baits like a Hudd or a Defiant I use a minimum of 65 lb braid to a 30 lb mono or fluoro shock leader. For treble hook glides I use 22-25 lb fluoro minimum and more often than not it’s 30 lb. A Medium Heavy is definitely NOT the right rod to be throwing “Big Swimbaits” on. Heavy or XX heavy at a minimum. Here are a few examples of rods. Dobyns 806 is the minimum, thats a 8 ft 6 power rod. Megabass Leviathan 8 ft rod 10 power Extreme Heavy rated at 2-8 Ounces. My “Big Swimbait Rod” is a Megabass TS Destroyer King of Baccarat, it’s a 7 ft 8 10 power rated from 3-15 ounces and 16-40 lb line rating. This is just the start and I only listed the lower end and exteme top end. It’s how far down the rabbit hole you want to go!

@@noahmercer3295 I have the Gizzard Shad
You can't whip a swim bait. You have to follow the momentum and place it carefully in comparison. And yes, it is tiresome. In Sweden a 4oz bait for pike is avg. My friend loves the 300k for "downsize" baits. Also, braid is preferred.
Ive seen BigBassDreams whipping some BIG swimbaits
Sea knight red fox review
quick review, its LOUD, casts really far, and the brakes work just like the Shimano system it copied
You are trying to cast this the same way you do with BFS or small bass reels which definitely leads to such poor results , the weight of these lures takes them down very fast so as rule of thumb you should not cast into the water like you are doing , it should be on the air up so that it takes a parabola and falls as far as possible into the water … you are driving excuses which are not valid , Shimano using theses brakes since ages in its Tranx and before in the old curado … good luck man
You need to pull about 75 yds of your line put a hook on it hook it to something and reel your line real tight about a hour then cast it out to see what it will do I put my pole on the other side of my truck let the line go a cross the the truck that is stretching out your line real tight do that let know what you think about it
sounds like alot of work lol..
Slower is better for high resistance bait
I have the same rod, but with a Tatula 200, and have been swimbaiting for many years. 20 lb is to heavy for that 1 oz lure. 12 or 15 would be better. also, do not rely on the brakes, take some off and use your thumb to bomb cast's. I can throw a 6" Hudd way further than what that 1oz lure is doing, it's at the lower end of the sweet spot for the 783sb rod. With the heavier baits, let a foot more line out before casting. Sheesh, a try tossing an 8 and 10" with a Curado 301E for 8 hrs..
Now catch a small tuna with IT😂
I just can't take people who switch hands to cast serious. It's just wrong.
20 lb is actually about right, to low. I have 20 on mine. But some people fish big swimbaits on 25 lbs fluoro.
I missed rod length
7ft 8 inch
I have a couple of those savage sliders, they are hard to come by. Also my 300 casts those heavy swimbaits better if you take about an 1/8” of line off.
