I think it’s time to update your list of turntables. TheFluance RT81 is garbage. I followed your recommendation and ended up tossing it in the trash in favor of a Technics 1500C. The Fluance Overall it's an okay turntable, but that's probably as far as I would go with it. The visual aesthetic proves more impressive than actually using it.
The entire tonearm mechanism feels super cheap. The tonearm lever, stand and safety latch actually feels like something you'd find on a cheapo plastic portable record player like a Crosley. Maybe I got a bad one, but that's my honest opinion. There's a lot of slack in the lever, it bounces the arm if you lift it too quickly and the tonearm safety latch feels like its going to break off every time I use it. The counter weight is to dark to see the numbers to set the tonearm. when I called customer service they were no help at all. They referred me to a video that did not help at all. Customer service has no technical skills when it comes to Fluance products and that’s a fact. The tonearm is cheap plastic garbage. The lock for the tonearm leaves a mark that’s how cheap it is. When purchasing a turntable at this price point something has to give and in this case it’s the tone arm.
3rd year in a row without mentioning a Rega turntable! This anti-British sentiment must stop! ☺ 🇬🇧

The Rega 1,2 or 3 would give all these a run for their money. I own a Linn so I’m a bit biased towards 🇬🇧. Love your enthusiasm towards vinyl!
@@sybo64 not sure about that, check what "The Audiophile Man" says about a Rega planner 3 Vs Project Debut Evo! He's a man I tend to trust, keeping in mind I do love a Rega and I have four.
Yes indeed.... I realise that the content is very basic, very beginner oriented, I've no problem with that. And I get why turntables with built-in phono stage, cartridge, even Bluetooth, but sound quality above convenience will give better results sonically and allow upgrades, etc. Rega must be available in the USA and Canada surely? There's a Project turntable at least, but Rega across their range offer something for everyone at various price points and their track record and reputation over decades is outstanding. But sound quality is key. Plus if you sell or trade-in a Rega you'll get a return, not sure some of the cheaper decks on this list.

I can second the number 4 the audio technica at-lp120xusb (which is it's full name) as a good turntable for everyone, it works fantastic, can do all the speeds, has a light for showing where the songs begin, has a pre-amp build in so you won't need an amplifier (you can still use one if you want), can upgrade the cardridge if you like or replace it if it breaks, can connect to a computer to digitise your vinyl (combine it with vinyl studio pro and you can record your records to digital with ease), it is direct drive so no worries about a belt that might break and you are in complete control so it won't stop playing halfway the last song because it thinks it's done (which happens on some records with automatic players)

A little earlier in the year I purchased an Audio Technica AT LP 120 X USB turntable. Love It. It's built like tank and does everything it should.

I bought an RT - 80 for a couple years ago and I have been well pleased with it I upgraded the cartridge by replacing the stylus with a higher grade one and I haven’t looked back this is crazy great list and a great review thank you

My cousin Kechette got her Audio Technica Lp60xbt in the mail yesterday and she is so excited that it’s her Christmas present
ATLP60X also has recessed feet in the rear which means one can put it on either short shelves or directly on top of late 80s early 90s component pieces like amps and cd players.
The RT82 is a better turntable to get than the RT81 and uses an optical sensor for speed stability and is equipped with the Ortofon OM10 cartridge.

I was under the impression that a "record player" is a all in 1 unit: turntable, built in speakers, etc. And a turntable is what is shown in this video: just the turntable. So when I saw the title 5 record players, I was looking for 5 all in 1 units.

I have a Thorens TD-147 Jubilee and a Thorens TD-160, I have been looking at upgrading to a Rega P1 but I don;t know if it;s worth it?

I had an LP60x and hated it; It ran too slow (by about 1.4%). There was no way to adjust the speed. Its probably down to what one you get, if you win the speed lottery its probably fine. I have a LP120XUSB and love it, other that the preamp (a tad noisy) its perfect for me.

I would say. stay away from those DJ record players... those are expensive but cheap components in certain parts of the mechanism because its used for DJ'ing and not for HiFi.
Yes they look amazing but if you want to spend ur money well get a second hand old school record player. there are plenty of high end (from back in the days) out performing modern ones.
Just be sure if runs great and you can even swap out the headshell and or stylus. if someone sells and say brand new stylys, just trash it since its not trust worthy.
A power cord is NOT an accessory, it is a necessity.

On the Canadian BestBuy site (not the American site, unfortunately), there is a BestBuy exclusive featuring a third colour variation for the Audio-Technica LP120XUSB turntable which is the LP120XUSB-BZ; a gorgeous bronze and black combination with bronze-coloured platter, strobe dots, buttons, tone arm cantilever, tone arm weight, and head shell as well as a bronze-coloured Audio-Technica lettering and logo on the slip mat; all of which would look amazing with Klipsch speakers like the ones you have in the background of your videos.
I bought one recently for $399.99 before taxes and I can't wait to set it up and I also bought a special compatible Audio-Technica cartridge and stylus to play 78 rpm records which is the AT-VMN95SP conical stylus. :)
I bought the RT-85 earlier this year. It is definitely worthy of being number one on the list. The sound quality is amazing. The only thing I don't like about it is the plastic lifting arm, it seems a bit flimsy and has some play in it. I've mentioned this to Fluance & they say this is normal. Other than that, everything else is perfect.
Uturn Orbit is another great option. You can have it custom built on their website and it’s American made!
After having an Auto turntable it's hard to go back. I play records in the other room so I need auto return and my Denon actually has "repeat" where it will return to the beginning and replay the record all automatic. This was 80's tech and it sure makes these new turntables look outdated IMO,.
Alright from England, buy beautiful Michell Gyrodecs and Technics SL-1200ll or Garrard 401 or Other vintage turntable for enthusiast , youngsters buy nice new deck with USB Bluetooth wi-fi built in preamp phone charger pencil sharpener but don’t just pick any old twirly whirly from a supermarket and please remember to wipe your stylus , best turntable for prezzie is Technics SL1200mk? Hi Jarrett, I saw your video on the four things I need: a turntable, preamp, amplifier and speakers. Since February 2021 I have had an Audio Technica LP120XUSB turntable and TIBO PLUS 3.1 speakers (built-in preamp). Do I need an amplifier too? Thanks
The Audio Technica LP120 will also play the small 78rpm records with the tiny labels to the end.

3:12 Power cords are not accessories. Accessories are optional extras... i.e. you don't need it to use it. I would consider a power cord as an essential... right?
This spring I upgraded from an AT-LP120USB (it was glitching out -- because the RCA is hard-wired in; thankfully I was able to do some soldering and re-sold it) to a AT-LP1240USBX. Love that sucker! Comes with a slightly better stylus and has a few more controls on it. Only thing I don't like about it is the dust cover isn't hinged, so you can't just flip it up -- you have to remove it.
What I find interesting is that turntables that do 16rpm are just nowhere to be found. FWIW, I don't have any records that play back at 16rpm, but if I did, I suppose I could just digitally record 'em at 33 and then halve the speed on the recording.

My dad surprised me with an audio Technica LP-120X this Christmas. It was kind of tedious to set up but it sounds absolutely perfect. My favorite feature is the slider on the side to change the speed ever so slightly
Love the LP60. Started with it and now it is a 2nd turntable for my office.
Pro tip: Don't use an automatic turntable with records that are odd shapes. I own one that is pumpkin-shaped. You are likely to destroy your stylus when it drops the needle and it goes bouncing off the platter.

I've just got some used Technics 1210s from my cousin who has approx 2 sets, plus cdjs and the new MK7s. Apart from some minor wear on the casing they're in very good nick.
Came with Ortofon Concorde Diamonds too. No complaints at all. These plus the used KRK Rokit 5" with stands, and a pioneer djm 600, and a unit to house my vinyl and sit my equipment on its run me about £1500 which I don't think is bad at all

I've owned my Fluance RT85 for about three years. It's an outstanding turntable, but I wish that Fluance would have designer the tonearm lift lever a bit better. This is the only nit that I have about it.
