It is possible that it is being held by The Crown but I still doubt the character could be used. Pipp & Jane had no children but several nieces & nephews and no official inheritance. Kiss the Rani goodbye!
As a fan at the time of dimensions in time I can confidently say that the anger stemmed from the fact that it wasn't billed as a light hearted sketch. It was billed as the return of doctor who (during a long painful hiatus) and required us all to buy the radio times to get the 3d glasses they told us we would need. Ten minutes of various doctors wandering around albert square in pointless 3d was not what we signed up for. I'm growing bad tempered just recalling it 30 years later.
Dang, well that definitely puts things in perspective. I'd be angry too! Okay, with that added context I can see the bad rep. I enjoy it as a weird out-of-context thing nowadays simply floating amongst a sea of awesome classic Doctor Who, but that would have frustrated the hell out of me back in the day. I hope modern Who's return of so many of the classic Doctors and companions in the coming years has dulled the sting a bit.
