Ever wonder what it would be like to take your favorite diver and put a Chronograph in it? Well someone at Orient did. As this Mako Solar Chronograph is basically a Chrono with a Kamasu body.

Ive bought this along with bambi japan leather croco pattern strap black. Been wearing it everyday as a daily beater. It complements the panda dial more than the steel bracelet. Loving it ever since. The solar with the sporty diver bezel is icing on the cake!
I love this watch, i wear mine all the time because i know its going to be grab and go without having to worry about the time being exactly correct. The lume and specifically the lume on the 12 is so bright and distinct and contrasts beautifully with the white background.
I totally agree with you on that the bracelet isn’t tapped enough. I see panda fish is going after the seiko speedtimer.
I love my Kamasu so…. I just wish it was a hair smaller. I have a 7in wrist so I can probably pull it off. This is a strong contender for my next watch for sure. Thanks as always for the detailed review! 🐼🐟
The 24hr sub dial is useless they should have put a day complication which is more useful. Colorway is gorgeous but minute hand is too short. Great review.
Really good summary. Your review was what helped me make the decision to buy this beautiful watch, which arrives in a week. Thank you so much!
The thought never crossed my mind, but now I am thoroughly intrigued!
I want to mention that about 10 or so years ago I purchased a solar seiko field watch. About 5 years later the capacitor went. I was able to replace it fairly easily, and the replacement off amazon was around 20 or 25 at that time. I know my experience is anecdotal at best, but after that occurred I kinda went back to preferring quartz over solar. At least with quartz the batteries are cheap and easy to install, and if it makes me happy I can also change the caseback gasket for very little……I know I shouldn’t write off all solar from one bad experience, but I do have some lingering hesitation
this is my go-to everyday watch
I got the same watch for 3 months now. Great value for what you paid. Just as you mention a good grab and go watch. Great review. 😊👍
I forgot this existed… was one of my top choices but eventually settled for a Seiko SSB425.
A very nice watch Shane. Definitely something to consider for anyone looking for a panda chrono with good water resistance. Not for me as I have a JDM Orient panda, plus a mecaquartz and a Pulsar Solar Chrono so don't have room for another. Excellent review as always !
Its actually very cool if you want to time two events. Great option if you need a quartz diver but also need a chrono. I would probably get this as a gift for someone who wants a nice watch but doesnt want quartz
Very nice. I wonder how it compares to the Neo 70 from Orient?
Being a big Kamasu fan (I have a blue one and a scarlet one), I find this to be an interesting idea. I like the Panda version, but I would have left out the date.
I bought one a few months ago. Despite a good watch collection, I have worn this nearly everyday since. In Thailand you can get them in the mid $200s.
I honestly think this needed a black chapter ring like the mako USA. It would visually trim up the size making the dial seem smaller.
24 hr dial. Deal killer. Good job Shane!
You read my mind. I don't think I can count the number of quartz and mechaquartz watches that have been good-looking and affordable but also easily cast aside the minute I saw the 24 hour subdial.
I can not figure how a VK 67 with a 12 hour totalizer can possibly be THAT much more over a VK 63 with the moron dial! 💯
Testify, brother!
I'm generally not very interested in most chronos due to bulky pushers but the pushers aren't too big on this and the dial design works. 22mm lug bracelets with little to no taper seem more unrefined to me these days even though i have several watches bracelets like this. Thanks for the review. Don't see too many Orient reviews these days.
Nice looking chronograph.
I'm really into Solar watches even though I have Rolex and Zenith mechanical pieces in my collection. What'd be your recommendations for sub 41mm time pieces for consideration? Thanks
I’ve had mine for a while, I put it on a black perforated leather rally strap with white stitching and let me tell you “Chef’s kiss”
That would look good.
Woule you tell me what size the bracelet? Thanks you in advance
@@ivan3019 lug width 22mm, strap length 180mm
Price is down to $195 on Amazon today, still think this is the better watch than the Citizen Promaster Eco drive..? The Orient looks so much better and not many people are sporting it, so this may be a contender
Great video by the way!
Just for comparison’s sake, you may wish to look at the Nivada Grenchen Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver, the original do it all tool watch. I think it’s gorgeous, and it manages to fit both a tachymetre scale and a dive timing bezel all into one watch. I think the idea was that it was for the adventurer who might well fly a plane and dive underwater all in one exciting day.
Just checked out the Nivada and wow, what a nice watch. Yeah it cost more but you get a better watch.
@@Cudaman1157 yeah unfortunately it’s about four times as expensive
Seiko Solar Sumo Chrono Prospex SSC021P1 (black) or SSC785 (PADI/Pepsi) leapt right to mind. I like their looks better as Orient styling isn't for me. In this case the 12 + busy logo+wordmark+Chronograph+20bar overloads the top of the face) The Seiko may be the same movement & may have screw down pushers. Good review though!
Bit like the Sinn Chronograph pilot 356
The chronograph is perfectly readable at 39mm watch. The additional 4mm was waisted here for bezel.
Some are. What I meant was this one specifically. As it is now the subdials seem a little on the smaller side, so if they shrank it and kept everything in proportion I think it would be hard to read.
I get it. If you want a solar Chronograph with legit WR, where else you gonna go? It’s not an unreasonable thing to exist. I’m still not sold on the notion that one needs a timing bezel AND a chrono feature but I sort of get your point. I would be more interested in a water capable solar chrono with neither a twisty bezel nor a tacky meter doohickey.. That silly date window needs to go!
Hey Shane.....Great review
I picked this up the other day from orient USA for around $300
Great looking watch
Is the bracelet sized with push pins? Thinking about this one for Father’s Day.
It is.
i like it a lot ,,, cheers
At six a clock you are wearing four links. Is this how it s fitting well?
Nice review, but how does it compare to the Seiktona? Ssc813, similar size (well the slightly larger ssc9something) solar too
I like the Mako (but don't own one yet) and this is a nice addition. I looks quite harmonious and I really like the Orient logo and the text below it, usually the least text the better, but here it just looks nice. But it is too big for me in any case. Thanks for the interesting observations and the beautiful presentation of the watch.
Side note: I noticed you have the same tactile turn bolt action pen like me, that is a really nice piece, I use it every time I can.
It's a great pen. Tactile Turn was at the Intersect Meetup hosted by Jack Mason & Nodus, so got to meet them there and bought one.
I should probably send them a link to one of these videos, maybe they will send me some to put in.
How about this Orient watch compared with Titus watch?😊😊😊 2:25
This thing is two-oh-nine currently at JS.
That's pretty good. Like I said prices fluctuate wildly with Orients online.
Is this better than tissot prx?
I'm a big fan of Orient watches, I'm wearing the red dial Kamasu right now. That being said I hate you now because I want this "Panda Fish". LOL
LOL. You could always call it the Panda-Cuda
I like the one you one wearing! Which time piece is this?
That would be the Ceramic Zodiac Seawolf.

A bit pricey for what it is, but I think Marc from Long Island watch was clearing out his inventory recently.
Bardzo ładnie wygląda na pasku skórzanym. Świetna recenzja. Pozdrawiam z Polski.
Thanks!
It seems good but for that money should we really have to put a $10 Ali milled clasp on it? It looked great on your sailcloth.
I'd prefer just swapping the whole bracelet, but doesn't seem comfortable with the rest of the Kamasu watches.
Great photography and review 👍. The hand length is a deal breaker on this watch, shame because it does look good otherwise.
Thanks!
What a nice watch, too bad it's too big for my tiny wrist
"Pand-cuda"
...and now I have Heart playing in my head. 😬👍
Then my job is done!
It also comes in a nice green colour RN-TX0204E😊
I'll forgive it's an analog chrono just because it's solar...😋Still, i thing you can find better and most possibly cheaper choices at Citizen.
Thanks for the review Shane, be well mate.
Is there a way to check the amount of charge in the battery?
No. It does have a low battery indicator with the seconds hand jumping 2 ticks when there is about a week's worth. According to the manual, it doesn't take much to fully charge it.
Oh, that's a good feature. @@davidholloway4712
Good, comprehensive review Shane.
Seiko do a solar chrono version of the Shogun. It's a bit chunky too. But I can't stand 24hr dials on chronos that do nothing, so it's moot.
Big fan of the Tsao Baltimore...
I think the date could be moved to the 24 hour subdial. I would rather have a date than not have a date.
Great review as usual. But a black and white diver-chrono bigger than the Kamasu? I'd call it the Orca. :) As for solar chronos (though not diver-chronos), the Seiko Speedtimer is a main competitor here, I think.
It comes in two different sizes and you can get the JDM version for not much more than this Oriwnt if you are OK with foregoing a warranty.
How long does battery last in these and can i change it myself?
Hard to say as it hasn't been out long enough, and orient doesn't make many solar.
However I would guess it's going to be pretty similar to Seiko / Citizen solar. At which point you should get 10 to 20 years before any issues. And those you can swap out the battery yourself, but it is a little complicated. Plenty of people do it though.
That said I've heard of some solar watches going longer .. It's just the luck of the draw. Like I have a Pulsar (Seiko owned) one that's 25 years old and still going. Battery life isn't as good, but still good enough.
@@RelativeTime thx for reply!
So these tick that long?? I thought battery lasts like year or two but wow...
Ok so battery life no problem and i might buy one now. Have only automatic orients so this is new to me.
@@dinoXAs2 Oh yeah. The whole idea is that you never should have to mess with it. Or the watch will be so scratched up, you will want a brand new one anyways if you start having power issues. So as far as I'm concerned solar is the way to go with a quartz watch. Just wear it out in the sun for a bit, and should be good. Fully charged it should go for about 6 months before needing more sun, and if it happens to run completely out. Just place it in the window to charge up.
@@RelativeTime sounds very good. Thx
Tactical Frog does the same in Titanium cheaper 😀
But then you have Tactical Frog on the dial... 😀
Just kidding, isn't that a sub brand of Heimdallr? They make good stuff. Is it actually solar?
I have thought about having a smaller Mako. Like 38mm Mako. But I bet they have never thought about it.
Actually they made the 40mm one last year. So they already went smaller.
$201 on Amazon. Really can't beat that value.
pretty good price now.
Orient needs to upgrade their bracelet. this bracelet is the same quality as my Mako 1. BTW, a Mako 2 bracelet won't fit either. Trust me, I tried. 😢
Pandacuda! 😸
Today it s arrived
How do you like it?
Very much! 50% from your review and 50% for my needs. I also like and wear it with pleasure the red Kamasu. Red Kamasu 100% like it for the first time I see ( I saw it in 2024 for the first time ). 2024 it s the year when watch passion restarted ( it was there in me but never recognisite until now ). So next was a Bambino of course but SNK 361 started my passion and it was the first wich I bought and after this it was an Edifice on 35 mm efv110d. Now it s arrived the Seagull quartz on 42mm rice white dial. Next I will watch the video... When to buy a watch and never forget the 1st rule... never enter in debt for a watch. All the best! ( Now I enjoy wearing and analyzeing them until next San Martin or Addiesdive quartz sand dial )
I was excited at first but the hands are just to short.
Yeah a bit.
Perfect for my 7.5 inch wrist.
Pandacuda 🤣 Nice review 👌 Can you just give me ne name of the watch near the hamilton, at 8:52 please?
That's the latest Zelos Eagle.

@@RelativeTime thanks 😁
By making it that big they have reduced their market by half. Surely 39mm would have been perfect
Well as it is the dials already seem a little small. So if they kept everything in proportion I think the dials would be harder to read at 39mm. They would have to adjust it a little.
My Kamasu crown looks smaller than this model
It might be.
It does look bigger than the kamasu when I compared it in the store. Optical illusion maybe?
Love the idea of a Kamasu Chrono, grab and go. Great review.
I just can’t buy any chrono with the 24 hour subdial. Waste of a sub dial.
Nice watch, I'm thinking about a black version.
Not a fan of quartz, but solar chrono is a good idea.
It's.... ok. I like the specs and general look but it doesn't even whisper buy me.
The Mako Dials are incredible in person. The review footage just doesn't do it justice. For me the dial is the reason to buy a watch from the Mako line. This is the best Daytona influenced Chrono dial you can get for anywhere near this price.
Great. I'll alert the media
Second
Seriously bland & pedestrian
Well that is sort of the point of the Kamasu line. It's an entry level diver. The M force line is a little more interesting.
@@RelativeTime Well yes, but my point is that Orient doesn't really have any design language of their own, unlike Seiko or Rolex for example
another useless 24 hour sub dial
Was wondering if you knew of any after market bracelets that are compatible I just got this watch and my only issue is bracelet feels cheep
I haven't found any so far.
I got this watch and swapped out the bracelet with BAMBI Black Premium Croco Watch Strap (for Men) BWP001. Never regretted since
