I just discovered this reaction...I'm glad this is still going around. I was at this show...holy crap. I balled my eyes out! Teresa actually sat in the row in front of us, and I watched security come and escort her up during the song. Truly an amazing moment...not only was Garth a class act, but so were the people running the show that night. Another tidbit...this was the second show he did that night, and what you're watching happend at like 2am...no joke.

Yep. I wasn't at that show, but that comeback tour would have like 11 or more days in a row, most having 2 shows/night. He'd keep putting up more dates until they weren't selling out so fast to give anyone that wanted to come a chance. Garth is the definition of Class in today's industry. No wonder he's the number one selling solo artist ever and has about every other record one can have in the industry.

I apologize for not writing for awhile. I am doing well and coming up on my 4 year anniversary of being in remission on January 12th. I thank God everyday that I’m still here and pray for the families and friends that are without their loved ones. I am so very excited to watch Garth’s special on Sunday! It is going to be amazing! I get it. The song was on in the background when I was driving home through the dessert after learning my older brother in law was on his death bed after a really bad dune buggy accident. I saw him as an older brother and mentor. He taught me how to present myself. The song had nothing to do with him it just happened to be playing on the radio as I was looking off into the distance driving home.

    From the Detroit Register ...
"Shaw, 48, of Mason City, learned that she officially entered remission for her triple-negative breast cancer. And now, with Brooks set to perform in Des Moines for the first time in 23 years, she has plans to re-connect with the country star, who lost his mother and sister to the disease, before one of his shows at Wells Fargo Arena."
Additionally, she seem to feel really good about it ...
"Jan 01, 2017 · I beat cancer so why not climb Mt Kilimanjaro?!?!?" ...
"When I heard about the mission/adventure trip to Mt Kilimanjaro, I immediately filled out an application. I was so excited and honored to be chosen to go. I can’t thank my employer, First Citizens Bank, enough for the support that they have given me. Financially, I wouldn’t have been able to go on this trip without the employees’ donations." ...
"On January 12th [2017], on Mt Kilimanjaro, I will be celebrating 2 years of remission! As Tony Arata wrote and Garth sang 'I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.'"

Here's the lyrics. I wish you could see the video. "The Dance"
Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
    Holding you I held everything
    For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
    And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

The Dance is really a song about choices. About not regretting a choice (relationship, really) because of what happened later. And it reminds me of my daddy. Dad was a disabled vet. He served during the Vietnam war, but the thing is he was, as an only child, he was exempt from the draft. But he served anyway. He was stabbed on base and in a bad car accident and never made it overseas. Those injuries led to him being in constant pain and wheelchair bound. They were also the ultimate cause of his death in 2007. I asked once if he would have changed that choice, knowing what it led to... And he said no. Grandpa was career Navy. He said that when he told his dad, from the look in his eyes, he knew for certain that his old man was proud of him. And that made all the pain and suffering and problems worth it.
To my surprise, I found myself repeating an almost identical conversation with. my then nine-year-old niece. A botched knee surgery at 19 led to permanent disability in my early 20s. Because I was disabled, I was home and able to become my youngest brother's kids' bonus mom. Without my disability, I would not have spent 12 years being their other parent and I wouldn't trade that for anything, not even a body that works properly.
As for the video, classic Garth. The man has a huge heart and is genuinely a really nice guy.

I lived in Stillwater Oklahoma back when he was big. I worked at a nursing home there. He weren't to OSU so he was there doing a show and we has a women in or nursing home that used to watch him as a child. He came in to visit her late one night. He didn't want any publicity it was just him being the kind ma'am he is.

Dennis Trotter, I miss you brother. You were far to young to go. We know you were destined to be a great man 16 was way too early.
This one opened up the flood gates, a goodbye song at his funeral. I bet I dream of yah tonight.

You always ask what we were doing when this or that song came out or what a song meant to us. I had a hard time watching the original video...it showed a young man who was a friend of my kids, just before he was killed in a rodeo accident (Lane Frost). Jump ahead a few years and it is the funeral for my first grandson)...and this song is played. Twenty-two years later and I am sitting on the train, on my way to work, crying like a baby while I type this. This song by Garth ALWAYS gets to me. (Oddly enough, I can listen to other folks versions. )

@@Modern-Renaissance-Man I worked at the Mesquite Rodeo when my kids were young (they are a little older than you). Lane, Tuff, Cody...they were all regulars there and really great with the kids. That movie stuck pretty close to fact. Luke Perry even went to rodeo school so he would be convincing.

I'm a 5 time cancer survivor, starting in 1999 with uterus cancer, then 2008 my first metastasized Stage 3 class B breast cancer,18 rounds of chemo, no radiation, thank God. chemo sucked, it was the day after shot that made me so sick, the Nulasta. 2008 kidney cancer, 2012 my 2nd breast cancer , 2014 melanoma. 2019 made my 5 years of being clean of any forms of cancer. 1 thing I know is God could have taken me home at anytime but He's still got work for me to do. I love this song.

This came out a little before one of our good friends died in a car wreck. It made me cry anyway, but after that, it always reminds me of him. He was a rodeo cowboy who knew he would not make it to 30. He was killed at 29 by a distracted driver. The Dance will always be Brad's song. As a Cancer Survivor, this is making me cry all over again because of how wonderful Garth is and how much he cares for people.

Saw him in the very early 90s when he was 2nd billing for The Judd's Farewell Tour and he seems to be today just as he was back then ----- very human; probably one of the most loyal and emotional in regards to his fans out of all. I'm so proud of him and the way he uses himself and position in society to share that humanity.
I appreciate your acknowledgement of that as well...thank you! And thank you too for the reminder of how life IS just a dance and we surely don't want to miss this. 🙂
