The important thing to remember about trailblazers like Annie Lennox - nothing had ever sounded like this (or looked like this) before. Others have copied - she's an original.

This song reminds me of my grandma. When this came out, my grandma was in her 70's. She came over and was talking about liking that new "cream cheese" song. Had no idea what she was talking about. Anyways, a few weeks later, she was over and this song was on my radio and she started singing "cream cheese is made of these". I'm old school,i learned about great music from my record collection and attending hundreds of concerts.
I consider myself very fortunate to be a child of the 60's and soaking up all this musical culture from the greatest era ever.

When I first heard this song back when it was released in the 80s, as soon as I heard that riff on the pump organ, I turned to my wife and said, "Whatever that is, it will be a smash hit. Who the fuck is that??" - From the opening riff!

Annie Lennox has an incredible voice; always did. This was the first hit of The Eurythmics, the New Wave duo she was a part of in the 80s. And it was a monster hit. The guy in the video is her partner, collaborator and one-time boyfriend, Dave Stewart. He ended up becoming a world-famous music producer.

You are one courageous man to watch this music video, and to react to it. I remember watching this music video on MTV in late-January, 1983. It shocked the hell out of me. I thought to myself, "My God, this is Satan himself in this music video!!!" I was a big fan of Kraftwerk, and their Techno-Pop music, and Eurythmics recorded their own style of Techno-Pop that appealed to me. I bought the album of the same name, and I have been a Eurythmics/Annie Lennox fan ever since.

They make a point. This world is for the purpose of remembering who you are and bringing that knowing in to your creations. The polarity and contrast will push you toward what you want. Some people experience oppression to realize how precious freedom is and when they've had enough they will change it.

The 80's was truly an amazing decade for music and movies! Almost everything was originals and unique! I think it was the golden age... entertainment wise. I will be forever thankful that I grew up when MTV only played music videos!
When the video for Michael Jackson's Thriller came out? That was such a huge deal! With just enough rumored controversial about that my parents said no way. I snuck down one morning around 4am to secretly watch...I just realized my parents never found out. To this day. How about that?

Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart were in another band called Tourist. They were on tour here in Australia and they didn't like the way their careers were going. The two got to talking in a hotel room in a small country town called Wagga Wagga (here in NSW) and decided to form another band - which became Eurythmics - so it can be said that this band was founded in Australia!

I'm surprised and not surprised at the same time. I'm not surprised in the sense that it was a massive song, nearly every person on the planet has heard the song but I'm really surprised you haven't heard previous artists and songs from the 80s who were massive.
Eurythmics had that dark, synthpop sound and image but I was pleasantly surprised with their pop output too with songs like 'Would I lie to you'. Even as a person born in the 90s, they were inescapable on the radio!

Another catchy song with an odd video (I say "catchy" because it's been playing in my head all night) is "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down.
We have an elderly super hero striving to rescue a young lady who's being abused by an apparent boyfriend. He "chases" them all over town, in the way an elderly man would, and they somehow end up in a bar for retired super heroes and villains. I like the song and I find myself rooting for the old super dude.

Annie Lennox is a legend. For me she's like the female version of Sting. A pathfinder - all others follow. Maybe since her first video I couldn't forget her. That smile is like a riddle: it seems genuine, but the eyes are often ominous, and I don't know what she's up to next. Whatever she is, she's not boring.

The first time I ever heard this was on a Friday night after 8a.m. -2 p.m. at college and 3 to about midnight at work, managing a restaurant. I turned on TBS- a program called Night Flicks- a MTV ish thing. Same old squeaky voiced lead singer. I headed for the shower and suddenly this amazing voice came out of my TV! Oh. My. Gosh! Gorgeous, deep, rich Alto. So rare for a lead singer back then. I was so taken with the voice that I was halfway through the video before I wondered what the he** was going on. Still love sweet Annie. Still have no clue what was going on. Oh by the way, I'm an Alto so I might be a little biased. Nah. She rocks. She sings the song they play over the closing credits on Return of the King.

So many good songs she sings on both with Eurythmics and solo. I would recommend you take a listen to "No More I Love You's". That song was sampled on a Nikki Minaj song a few years back but the original is beautiful.
