    There's an easy fix for that loud POP when activating the pedal. All you have to do is solder a couple of resistors to the internal board of the pedal. There are tutorials on RUclips. I did it last week and it works perfectly. No more loud POP.

    My prediction is that at some point M-Vave will fix the issues like bad power supply noise, footswitch click in the signal, bad selection knob, etc. and then this pedal will truly be the best cheap BigSky clone in existence.

    It is a good multi reverb pedal - but one thing to note is that this pedal absolutely needs a separate 9 volt adaptor. It cannot cope with any power supply interference if placed in a daisy chain set up. Worth knowing before you buy because you will need to buy a single 9 volt adapter, to avoid the disappointment of getting that high-pitched whine interference.

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  8 месяцев назад +5

      You are correct! I have powered it with an isolated Vitoos power supply and I didn't face noises! Anyway, daisy chains are a noise generator for any M-Vave device! Thanks for sharing your view!!! 🎛️🔥

      @streetlegal008 8 месяцев назад +1

      Also on that loud 'popping' issue. That also disappeared for me when I changed over to the separate single 9 volt power adaptor. Apart from the isolation, it may also relate to the mah level supply.@@RiffsRigs

      @@streetlegal008in some cases it solves, but also I saw cases that it didn't, what makes me conclude that the pedal is over sensitive for Power Supply line quality! If you will plug it in Europe, India, US, South America or Australia, probably it will influence the noise level and the Pop!

    I bought a much more beautiful perfect clone, the" Ghost Fire Space Reverb", with a nice "Space Station" finish it is a fantastic reverb, I did the switch mod to suppress the "plop" noise (using 2x 1meg ohm resitors) and it's perfectly silent and there is no loss of volume as I read somewhere and no problem at all. The Shimmer preset is absolutely outstanding and gorgeous and all the presets are very good. The same week I received an EHX Epitome and I am as happy with the Space Reverb as with the EHX, and it's not the same price... ! Thanks for the "mod video".

    I got the high-pitched whine from this pedal, running it with other pedals through a cheap (not-so-)"isolated" power supply.
    However I found a workaround:
    If I power it from the power-out socket of my Boss LS-2 pedal, the whine goes away.
    Another pedal that has a similarly useful power output is the Polytune3 tuner pedal.
    PS. I'm running the Boss and Polytune3 pedals through the not so good power supply.

    Proper, expensive sounding shimmer... And good overall reverb sounds.... Just a little work on a revision that can cost.... Maybe 5 more dollars to avoid too many corners cut... And it would be really solid budget pedal... Undoubtedly copying someone else's circuit... but that's nothing new.
    Can definitely mute with many pedals.... Like a simple tuner pedal

    I bought a Sunydog version on Amazon UK for £22 vs £45 for the branded version.
    It was quite good on its own apart from a Univibe-like modulation on the tail. But it was brilliant when added after my ZOOM G3N and added real depth to the tone of an ambient patch.
    I bought a second one to see what it did and I liked the results. I even heard what sounded like a Chorale effect.
    I am a bedroom player and don’t have much experience or expertise, so YMMV.

    Any suggestions welcome!

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  8 месяцев назад +3

      Sure... you will connect on the same way: the logic is as follows: output from your PreAmp (Send) -> LoopBox IN -> from the LoopBox Send to the input of the Mini Universe -> From the Output of the Mini Universe to the LoopBox return -> From the Out of the LoopBox to the Return of your Amp. In this way the Mini Universe stays always ON, and you step on the footswitch of the LoopBox when you will want to engage it. You can use the loopbox in passive (without power sorce) or active (9V). If you use active you can control if it is engaged or not by the led lights on the top! Let me know if you have any other questions! 🔥🎛️

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  7 месяцев назад

      The main modulation it has is an Octave, what consists on the Shimmer style effect. For sure it is not a Flanged or Phased Modulation, but anyway it can be considered as modulated.

    • @-jank-willson
      @-jank-willson 7 месяцев назад +2

    • @RiffsRigs
      @RiffsRigs  7 месяцев назад +2

      It has a little bit of shimmer in all the modes, but with different textures caused by the filters of frequency that they apply on the algorithm. The controls 1, 2 and 3 generally act exactly on those filters. And yes, for the Shimmer the Control 2 is the Octave itself, so you are able to get from upper perfect octave to lower perfect octave. It gets dissonant if you will use it at noon, for example. Try checking out my No Talking review... there on the end I show how those 3 parameter influence on each mode of verb! :)

    • @-jank-willson
      @-jank-willson 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@RiffsRigs when you say it has a little bit of shimmer on all the modes, does that mean that there is a little bit of octave on all the modes? Are the 'filters of frequency' you mention basicly the same filter tech that phasers use, so it is basicly a reverb/phaser combo?
      But I don't really hear any modulation, I just hear regular reverb, even on the shimmer setting with the octave up/down

    • @-jank-willson
      @-jank-willson 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@RiffsRigs so the shimmer isn't just a set octave up like on most shimmer reverbs, you can also make it go to an octave down, too? And anywhere in between? Which is cool because i can get skronky dissonant sounds, since most octave pitch shifter pedals have set setting (like you can only choose a third higher, 5th higher, 7th higher, octave higher, etc.)

    I have found the pedal only pops when connected to the effects loop of my amp

      It is because when you engage it, the circuit is injecting a peak of tension on the circuit. Depending on the impedance of the Input, it gets better or worst!

      @@RiffsRigs it can be theoratically solved by using a 1M resistor to gnd on both in and out. I'll try it myself and inform u.

      @leonardo.moraes81 also tried to solve with the 1M resistor. It improved the pop, but seems that it didn't solve 100%.

      @@RiffsRigs Ok got some news here. First of all, what I've been suggested was that connecting 1M resistor between in & gnd tips from the inside of the pedal (also to the out & gnd), that works sort of a input and output resistor which avoids such pops on diy stomp box world; however it didn'T work on me.
      YET; in my case (I suppose in most of y'all as well), popping sound disappears within a minute after the pedal is powered up.
      ALSO; I've found the solution for the high-pitch whine noise. I've got a joyo JP06 Power Noise Blocker to solve my noise problem in daisy chain with Mooer X2 Preamp. It didn't help with that; BUT it %100 helped with this pedal. You can safely daisy-chain your M-Wave Mini Universe pedal with this small apparatus. I think it cuts the high frequencies coming out of the pedal. It's also proven that durign the disassembly, I've seen that there's a 24khz crystal inside the pedal, which I suspect is the reason for this whining.
      Happy playing, y'all!

    HIII, What reverb would you recommend in this price range that is simpler in the sense of not coloring the sound so much?

    It was kind of a pain to get when I was shopping for it...although, it wasn't long after Ryan's review on 60 Cycle Hum, so I should've expected as much. 😊
    The thing I found out early on is that this thing LOVES to parallel process. Mine is on one of my Tri-Parallel channels with some mod after it, and instead of having it in a typical serial chain, this little sucker is right at home there. Plus, the phase-flip on the Tri-Parallel opens up some very strange and beautiful results when it's mixed back into the I/O bus.
    Gripes...selector knob, yep. Hideous foot switch, also yep. But what _I_ miss here is the old Cuvave non-aesthetic; it would've been awesome in battleship grey, with the boring font from their other boxes, because THAT is how "best kept secret" pedals SHOULD look! When people scope out a pedalboard, their eyes drift toward the glitzy stuff, and the Cuvave boxes don't register at all because they APPEAR boring...so no one can easily nick the sound just by copying your rig, because their stomp boxes don't attract visual attention.
    AURAL attention, however...😂 Yep, Ryan nailed it when he said that Cuvave does weird better than so many others in the pedal game. Good to see they're still at it, despite the visual "upgrades". Subbed also...reviewing this weird 'vave box early on gets MY stamp of approval!
