You need to know what it’s for, you can make a lot of pedal types on it but they aren’t the greatest (truthfully a Vox stomp lab is much better) but it’s helpful for practice and deciding what actual pedals you like (garage band has a better fake pedal variety as well).
I have this pedal - for me I found it difficult to get a sound which did not have some sort of tinny aspect to it. It is worth noting that there is a PC programming app available which makes setting this up way easier. It is also (allegedly) able to use downloaded IR files - I don't really understand this stuff BUT the IR selection makes a big difference to the sound you get. Overall I would probably not use it live but it's better than most headphone practice amps in terms of flexibility. I also have a Mooer ge100 which I think is capable of sounding better than this and has more program slots and a looper. The convenience of rechargeable batteries was looking like a game changer, however, this is a bit too low rent sound wise.
I understand what you are saying. I agree - a looper would be nice and make this a great practice pedal. It’s compact size is nice, but there are definitely drawbacks to some of its sounds for sure. Thanks for checking out the video!
I also bought this pedal. I never expected it to sound great on all amps. I was just looking to get one good drive sound and one good clean. With my own IRs that was pretty easily achieved. For me the #9 (Mr. Smith = PRS Archon) with a Ownhammer Marshall 4x12 with G45 IR gives me everything I need from OD to High Gain with the use of my volume poti. If I want it more modern I switch to a Mesa 4x12 V30 IR or other of your liking. The reason I purchased it in the first place is, that it is easily the cheapest IR-Loader you can find. Everything else was just a bonus. And now I like it a lot for getting a decent sounding complete rig in the size of a big smartphone. No it's not on par with my Fractal AX8, but for practice I prefer it over my audio-interface to BIAS FX approach I was using before. The reason is the much better dynamics.
Hi Dave - you can find them on the internet if you do a google search. Sometimes they are free and sometimes they charge a couple bucks for them. I’m sure someone on here might have a better lead for more precise location Of them. Cheers!
I have been playing guitar in bands for 55 years. I have about 50 effects pedals 30 guitars and 15 amps. I was attracted to this pedal because of its size and rechargeable battery and it's low cost. Actually it's expensive for a door stop. This has got go be the worst sounding pedal I have ever had the misfortune to buy. The distortion sounds are laughable. Sounds like a bag of bees. The other effects are awful too. At least I didn't waste too much money on it. Don't buy it. Buy a sonicake instead. I known it will cost you double but at least it sounds good.
That’s exactly what I thought, the distortion/overdrives sound awful. Distortion effects are surprisingly difficult to emulate in the digital domain. Good sounding emulations of distortion and overdrive require a lot cpu power and that multi effect must use a really cheap cpu to be sold at such a low price. So in the end you have a shitty overdrive that goes in a shitty delay that goes in a shitty reverb that goes in a shitty IR.
I agree about the distortion sounds... I'm sure that if you play it too loud you might get some bee keepers come up & try to find the source of the noise... 😂 😂 😂 You mentioned sonicake, I just bought 2 of their pedals & while the sounds aren't stellar, they're solid & with tweaking should work fine... the blue skreamer/dumblsound has some potential, especially leaving the dumblsound portion on for cleans with an edge
Hello dave just wanted to say nobody needs thirty guitars, Fifty guitar pedals and fifteen amps. I'm guessing that we are about the same age. My collection of gear is about the same size. I'm always looking for a new toy. Don't ever grow up life is for having fun.
I have two of these multi-effects, the first (older) has a noise-gate and the second new one does not. . . isn't there some hidden function that turns the noise-gate on and off?
Hi. You know, I’m not too sure. I let a good friend of mine borrow my cubebaby for his son to mess around with, so I don’t have access to it at the moment. Thanks for checking out the video!
Yes, exactly. You got me - I couldn’t find one bit of difference between each mode. Hahah. I’m guessing that because this housing is commonly used on a few Chinese multi-pedals, maybe they just made it a redundant feature on this model, and on other models that have a different purpose the third butting does something different?
To continue on my previous comment, I have a second question about the IR function: Is it supposed to be 'on' only if I plug this to a computer and a DAW? or do I need to use it when connecting via an amp? My amps obviously each have their own speakers so I'm not sure what it would mean to use the IR in front of an amp, cause again the amp's own speaker will "override" (that is come after in the signal chain) the IR. I suppose it only makes sense to use it when connecting to a computer? I'll much (truly, MUCH!) appreciate you reply to my two questions. I realize how basic they must be and I apologize for not getting something so basic that everyone seems to get :)
Use the IR only if you are not running through an amp with a cabinet. This means if you play the CubeBaby directly to a DAW or front of house PA-system. If you are not going to use the IRs, this device might not be the best choice for you, because the IR-loader feature is the absolutely best part of this, imho. With other preamps you get more versatility because they usually feature a 3-band EQ (sepreate knobs for treble, mids and bass). This is where the CubeBaby is lacking the most, imho...
@@SturmsaengerThank you SO MUCH for this. This is much appreciated. I feel I finally understand what an IR is and that we're supposed to use it as long as there's no actual amp/cab in place. Thanks again.
@@shalomshalom735 An IR or Impulse Response is in short the recording of a miked cabinet. They are so different, because you get a lot of different sounds by changing the type or number of speakers in a cabinet, the model of the mike used, even the position of the mike in regard to the center of the speaker and so on. IRs are therefore the easiest and least expensive way to change your guitar sound. There are a lot of great IRs to be found on the net for free. Another benefit: no screwing or soldering needed ;-)
@@SturmsaengerThanks so much! It looks like you really understand this, so hoping you can help me understand this last question: I am playing through a physical amp (that has a speaker), then should I use IR or not? Is it correct to say that I should use it if I'm going through Power IN and bypassing its preamp, but should not use it if going to front of the amp and use the preamp ?
Hi There, great video. I subscribed to your channel and will follow other videos! I do own this device but haven't been using it cause I didn't feel I understood how. I have two truly basic questions, I apologize that they are so basic, but I'll MUCH (MUCH!) appreciate it if you can take the time to explain them: (1) If I use the output and connect it to an amp then am I supposed to connect to the front of the amp or to a 'power amp in' and bypass the front of the amp? I mean, if I connect to front of amp then the signal from this device will then be shaped by the amp's own character and override this device. No? So, I suppose I'm supposed to bypass the amp's pre-amp. Is that correct?
Thank you for the questions. To be honest, there is no right or wrong way to use it if it works for you. You might get better results one way or the other, but ultimately, I think you should do what works for you. That might mean using this device to shape the sound and then using your amp to further shape the sound. Or, maybe keeping the amp clean and using just the pedal to modify your sound. In regards to your other question - same thing! You can use the IR when you are recording if you like the sound or maybe you want to turn it off if you like that better. You definitely won’t hurt any of the pedal or the computers equipment. Thanks for subscribing! Cheers!
This is *NOT* from Temu - its been around before Temu existed. I have one. I use it as an emergency backup amp at gigs. Again - greta little device. Not from Temu. You just happened to get yours from that retailer.
@@CompanyGrip I read somewhere that it is the book that is most likely for a man to have on his bookshelf and not have read or completed. I finished it on willpower alone.
@@valley_robot I’m not a professional musician and I find my iPad tools good enough for me. They produce beautyful sounds, loops, records, etc. And besides: if I can’t have the groove I like I prefer to play clean. But it’s just an opinion.
Try gigging or rehearsing with a smartphone ... You know, Musicians need gear to make music. But then, the cube baby is also just a toy, so it doesn't matter.
Omg. Nothing and I mean nothing beats a TS9 . Not even the 808. One comes close , The Big Muff. Ive tried them all . Another one I actually liked was a comptortion. We all have our likes I suppose. Lol
The overdrive/distortion tones are laughably bad. It’s true that at that price, I’m surprised that this thing even work but if your budget is so tight, just buy a practice amp with integrated effects. You will not have as many effects but at least the ones you’ll have will be usable.

WOW! Amazing! What I don't understand and can clearly understand why ur so mad is that how dare ur computer/phone a man of ur caliber to those cheap crap sites, HOW DARE THEY! I swear its too funny when a product snob gets a great deal and wants to hate it so bad ! As they sit there thinking here I spent alllll that $ on that high end shit and it doesn't do 1/2 what this does and can u believe its even made better?!
First time watching your channel. You did a great job deciphering the functionality of the pedal. I wouldn’t buy it but I watched the whole video and everything you explained made sense to me. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thx for your detailed review & explanation of features. Plenty of reviewers do not acknowledge the programability features of units like this and the Lekato PA-1 preamp in favor of their hundreds of dollars of pedals...not acknowledging that they can duplicate the sound of multiple pedals with one cheap unit. They don't like the presets, and don't know that they can be changed & saved, etc.
Actually, M-Vave apparently make many pedals, some with less features, some with more...but the highest cost appears to be something like USD$75 or so. Like it or not, let's see a domestic mfr come close to those prices, for the multitude of options the pedals provide! What is not fair is to say that the pedal is not as good as XXX, when XXX costs 6 times as much: Yes, it is said that "You get what you pay for..." but, in this case, it appears that you get much more! In any event, thanks for your thorough review, as I do understand that foreign instruction manuals are not always clear...probably the result of using auto-translate to convert some foreign language to English. What these foreign companies would benefit from would be to have a multi-lingual human review those "machine" translations for clarity.
Super cool! It's perfect. I bought a decent bass plug amp for the same price. It awkward to play with for damaging the plug is easy but fun. This pedal's far more versatile, strong and practical being there's a cord coming from the guitar. Thank you and thank Temu!
Liked and subscribed! Nice overview, the low price, form factor and metal chassis are a good start for a first gen unit. I'm not familiar with their lineup, but this one is not bad. 🎸
I bought one a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, the headphone out volume knob went from zero to MAX VOLUME with nothing in between, thankfully my headphones weren't ruined (I had just plugged them in, didn't put them on my head beforehand thankfully). In Temu's defense, the return process was painless and they issued my refund pretty quickly. For another $70, you can grab a Spark GO that's just better in every single way.
X-cuse me por favor. I see it all over the net. Spark Go. Yup, I gotta admit everybody can’t be wrong. BUTt…I could not afford it or the additional followup purchase. I’m really happy I bought the BlackStar Fly 3 Special Edition Double Amp Combo package for $99. And the thing is, it sounds way better than the demos I hear in RUclips. Sorry. Just representing for the Fly team I ended up on.
Wow! Unreal. I've seen all of the ad's as well and was wondering...now i know. Imagine if that was available when we we're young guitarist with little to no money. Thanks...pretty cool actually..
@@CompanyGrip you missed the fact that the same port you use for charging can connect to your computer as recording interface (interface only) and if you connect the other one it will be same but it'll record the sounds on the pedal.
There are three different versions of this pedal. This one, one for Bass Guitar and one for Acoustic Guitar. I bought all three of them. I've used the one for Bass at church several times and been very pleased with it, but I've only been able to spend a little bit of time with the other two in a practice setting. I probably won't be regularly using any of these as my main setup, but considering the size they are very easy to just leave in my gig bag to have on hand for a backup. And I'm comfortable occasionally using it for performances. They do sound really good considering the price.
really good for a backup and or using it for a sound to go straight to the PA at a gig, if you have the right setup that you can split and dont want to mic up the cab
I bought one of these several months ago and have had trouble figuring out how to use it. Hopefully your video will help me get it out from wherever I put it and try again.
There is also an earlier version of the one in the video. The easy way to tell them apart is the - < and >- graphics. What they represent is a pretty big improvement.
This pedal is older than Temu exists 😂😂 You can get it for under 30$ online. If it had a Tremolo it would have been my perfect little companion. But, without it's sitting on the shelf for ages. And it's staying there. Some pedals are a good investment when becoming older 😂😂😂 For real, better get a Mooer PE-100, it's a bit more expensive but it does have quality simulations and effects, the M-Vave thingy isn't more than a toy to play around with for a while.
Nice job Ben, maybe you should do a series on all the cheap guitar products on Temu, people are always interested in these inexpensive products. I only clicked on this video because of the title, keep it going you are gaining ground
I remember there being some gain staging. Unfortunately my cubebaby lives in San Francisco at a friends house now. I doubt I’ll ever see it again. Cheers!
I noticed at the end you had a SPARK mini. Why would you buy this Temu pedal when the SPARK app has all that built in? I have the SPARK 40, SPARK Cab and SPARK app Do you have any SPARK how to videos please?
Thanks for watching. I have a spark video somewhere in the video selection. I think the point of having the pedal with the amp would be so you could use your foot to switch on/off effects, where as you can’t really do that while playing with the spark app.

Thanks. What’s the functional difference between LIVE and EDIT mode? Seems like the do the same thing.
The Boss Blues Breaker was modded to become the Shur Riot whicj was modded to become the US Dream the peda in this circuit.
Is it correct to say that I should use it if I'm going through Power IN and bypassing its preamp, but should not use it if going to front of the amp and use the preamp ?
grazie
👍🏽
Cheers!
@@CompanyGripThank you so much. Truly I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my questions.
No problem. Glad to help. Happy holidays.
I have the bass guitar one for $35.00 was well worth it
UK Amazon just £32 atm. 19/12/23
Sounds good,,,modulation doesn't have to be expensive
True! Thanks for checking it out!
This is *NOT* from Temu - its been around before Temu existed. I have one. I use it as an emergency backup amp at gigs.
Again - greta little device. Not from Temu. You just happened to get yours from that retailer.
Did you actually finish reading Infinite Jest? 😀
No…haha. I’m really good at starting books and not finishing them though.
@@CompanyGrip I read somewhere that it is the book that is most likely for a man to have on his bookshelf and not have read or completed. I finished it on willpower alone.
😂 Nice! You have the conch, sir!
show that good pedal doesnt need to cost kidney to be good
Anyone detect intonation problems?
Change the.preamp to IR it would be stacot
This cost me 15$
I don’t understand. There’s plenty of free app for our smartphones, so why buy things like that?
Name one app for a phone that let's you use your feet to control it, it's a foot pedal for a guitar player on stage, phones can't do everything mate
I got the bass version. Its very very noisy.Way too much. Not useable for me. Im totally disappointed 😢
I’ve never used that one. Sorry to hear!
Sounds great for a kid that knows how to play guitar in his teenage years who has money at that age.
Pass
Omg. Nothing and I mean nothing beats a TS9 . Not even the 808. One comes close , The Big Muff. Ive tried them all . Another one I actually liked was a comptortion. We all have our likes I suppose. Lol
All the overdrives sound awful, can they be edited
Admittedly, there’s not a lot of adjustability beyond “gain”.
Price has gone up to $40
Thanks for the heads up!
The overdrive/distortion tones are laughably bad. It’s true that at that price, I’m surprised that this thing even work but if your budget is so tight, just buy a practice amp with integrated effects. You will not have as many effects but at least the ones you’ll have will be usable.
We don't know the volume of the guitar going into the pedal. Maybe he had a low and it didn't distort enough for you.
Great idea
Sounds terrible
Boycott! Your freedom demands it.
Never spend more than four or five dollars on a Chinese Web store. And never buy anything on temu.
Buy a bunch and daisy chain em, to a real amp with a full range speaker ... in an abandoned bus station... with a stoned Elk... and a homeless Democrat pushing marxism.
WOW!
Thank you for checking out the video and subscribing!
Best break down for this product yet. Great presentation. We see this same device with different names.
Thanks for checking it out!
Also works as usb audio interface. And all IRs in it can be replaced by your own with CubeSuite software.
Super cool! It's perfect.
I bought a decent bass plug amp for the same price. It awkward to play with for damaging the plug is easy but fun. This pedal's far more versatile, strong and practical being there's a cord coming from the guitar.
Thank you and thank Temu!
Thanks for checking it out!
Liked and subscribed! Nice overview, the low price, form factor and metal chassis are a good start for a first gen unit. I'm not familiar with their lineup, but this one is not bad. 🎸
Thanks for checking out the video!
This thing is amazing for $40, use it in my synth rig - great over view.
Agreed - the Spark stuff is pretty awesome! Bummer about your Cube Baby though! Thanks for checking out the video.
The Blackstar Fly 3 is great too!
@@CompanyGrip 👍🏼
Amazing what we can get for the money these days. I might grad one even though I have lots of other gear. Interested in the acoustic version also.
Wow! Unreal. I've seen all of the ad's as well and was wondering...now i know. Imagine if that was available when we we're young guitarist with little to no money. Thanks...pretty cool actually..
I know! I was fully expecting it to be crap. But after messing around and figuring things out, it worked pretty good! Thanks for checking it out!
Agreed! Thanks for checking out the video!
really good for a backup and or using it for a sound to go straight to the PA at a gig, if you have the right setup that you can split and dont want to mic up the cab
Some pedals are a good investment when becoming older 😂😂😂
For real, better get a Mooer PE-100, it's a bit more expensive but it does have quality simulations and effects, the M-Vave thingy isn't more than a toy to play around with for a while.
Nice job Ben, maybe you should do a series on all the cheap guitar products on Temu, people are always interested in these inexpensive products. I only clicked on this video because of the title, keep it going you are gaining ground
Thanks for the kind words. If something pops up that I’m interested in, I’ll do a review on it. Cheers!
Im sure he says "I wish I hadn't done that".
It takes other effects Very Well, Especially Noise Reduction...
Really great demo Had me captivated to the end (I'm a Bass player)Forwarded it to my Guitarist Pal
Thank you for the kind words and for checking out the video. 🤘🏽
I got the chorus for £1.76. My review is here - ruclips.net/video/WNb_zJJTTF4/видео.html
excellent .thank you
come oon.. it is hard to use.. ty for explaining..
Junk. The only thing halfway decent is the delay.
Does the modulations have volume drop? I'm planning to build a hybrid pedalboard and I'm going to use cube baby for modulations only, thanks,
I remember there being some gain staging. Unfortunately my cubebaby lives in San Francisco at a friends house now. I doubt I’ll ever see it again. Cheers!
At that price you can have 2 for chorus and phase
Great video. I'll save a lot of time setting it up
Thanks for checking it out!
Great review, Ben! Well done. Decent product for the price, not top notch but still usable imo. Might get it cuz no budget at all for anything fancy these days. Beggars can't be choosers guess.. instant like and sub, man! Awesome video! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for checking it out! Glad you liked it.
@@CompanyGrip first unit like this i know of with rechargeable built in battery avoiding power adapter and battery use. Cool. 👍🏻
The company Lekato has the exact same unit just with their logo on it so guess companies trading off on some products. It's around same price tag.
@@kevinmyles6369that sounds about right. Seems like these kinds of products have a few different names based on the distributor. 🤘🏽
@@CompanyGrip Ace! Have you tried the Spark Go? Pretty good gear..
Prime example of a an engineer who made something for himself that should never have been a product without going through UI/UX design.
Does it work… yes… is it even close to effortless… no
Haha!
I have this one! so far only using the cab sim for playing directly into a speaker.
The OD/Dists are rather simplistic without flexible eq control, better use joyo/nux amp sims for that 😂
Agreed! Thanks for checking out my video!
Thank you very much. Very informative.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!
Got one from Amazon different name same pedal great for playing with headphones. The website for the ir does work for the one I have
