I love how much detail you put into Jeremy's body language, you can just immediately tell his relationship with them just by that alone. I put thr video on mute and paid attention to how differently he held himself with Christine and Michael, with Michael his posture and movements are more relaxed and comfortable, while with Christine, his posture is stiff and his movements are more sporadic/fidgety. You can just really tell how he's comfortable being who himself around Michael while with Christine he doubts himself and overthinks about everything. I also absolutely loved how many times Jeremy showed concern for Christine's stunts and all the bits where he listened to her while staring at her affectionately while Christine was completely oblivious to it. I just noticed one of Christine’s lines is “life can’t always work out in the way it works out in the play, like the only time I get to be the *center of attention* is...” and I think it’s a good comparison to both her and Jeremy where Christine is happy with just the play whereas Jeremy wants the attention in real life and is willing to do anything to get it.

The fact that Christine is such a weird, quirky person, even for a theatre kid, is foreshadowing for the moral of the story: Everybody feels weird and is scared of not belonging, so really, nobody is actually alone. "The most dangerous people are the ones who pretend they're not [scared of something]." Rich is a bully who overcompensates because he's afraid his height will make him a target. Jake plays sports and joins lots of clubs to avoid his fear of not being good enough (hence his confession to Christine that he doesn't want to JUST be the popular jock, and is really lonely since his parents are gone). Madeline pretends to be French to get attention. Jenna Rowland gets attention for spreading gossip, but once the story spreads, nobody even remembers that Jenna was the source. Brooke even mimics Madeline's "French" in the Broadway version bc she wants Jeremy to like her bc he "dated" Madeline. Chloe, despite being the Mean Girls Regina George of the story, shows that she's actually incredibly insecure and jealous when Brooke (or anybody else) gets romantic attention. While Michael and Christine SEEM to buck the trend, Michael reveals that his lackadaisical attitude towards popularity is because he truly doesn't believe he's capable of being popular, and was jealous that Jeremy had the courage and confidence to TRY to rise above being a loser. Christine seems like the girl who just does theatre because she loves it, but soon we see it's because she's so scared to try anything new and needs a script to follow. She claims that she has many interests and can't imagine sticking to one thing for her whole life, but all she does is theatre. Jake even points this out in Upgrade, and it leads to her anxiety that she's not doing enough with her life, which makes her a prime chance for the SQUIP to manipulate Jeremy. The only person who's unafraid is the Squip. In the musical, it's more demanding and clearly evil, attempting to SQUIP the entire school (presumably to make an army of some sort). But none of that happens in the book. While the Squip DOES still manipulate Jeremy in the book version, it legitimately believes it's helping him. It even caves to Jeremy's request to help Michael be popular, even though it believes the task to be impossible even for the Squip. This actually works out surprisingly well as Michael does end up hooking up with a girl at the Halloween party. The play is where the story diverges wildly from the musical adaptation, as the novel version has Squip has Jeremy do an improvisational monologue to impress Christine, but it just ruins the play and gets him kicked out for breaking character. The Squip apologizes afterwards, believing itself to be faulty since it failed to help Jeremy get Christine to love him back AND ruined his popularity in the process. It even tells Jeremy to shut it down with MD Red, and to get the new model of Squip when it's released to try again. They both decide to write a book for Christine about the whole SQUIP experience to try to explain Jeremy's actions (this being the novel of Be More Chill). This is also a difference from the adaptation, as Jeremy does not get what he wants in the end.
Ahhh... Every time you upload I feel blessed for months. I just love how good you are at storyboarding, you are so good at portraying emotion in their faces, the transitions just feel so natural and the composition is like chocolate to my eyes. (Honestly, if there was a company *above* Disney you could totally work there, that's how good you are.) The wait was really worth it!!!

You have such a way of bringing the concepts of the characters to life in your animation. I can honestly say I prefer your version over the live action performance, and that's saying something.

But not cry as in the loud sobs kind of cry, no I don't just start to bawl, just a few tears if at all. I just use the word to empathize a point, show the passion that I've got, I get passionate a lot.
I love all of this! You can really see how Jeremy's mannerisms change around Christine and how oblivious she is. He spends a lot of the time she is talking just staring at her fondly and she never picks up on it. I truly admire that you kept Christine in character by making her move so much even though it made the animatic more difficult to create, it really paid off. And the character design, THE CHARACTER DESIGN! They are just so cute and they look great in your art style! Thank you so much for posting this, it's truly amazing. Merry Christmas!
I just now realized that this song actually sets up the joke of Christine messing up expected rhyme schemes. Here, her use of "Wow" makes you think "Okay, the next line will say 'now'" but NOPE! She says "Soon." Likewise, she later says a lot of ooo sounds in "A Guy That I'd Kinda Be Into" so you think "Oh, the guy she's kinda into is you" HAHAHA NOPE IT'S JAKE

It just sucks that people forget the canon (and usually straight) ships and then ships same-sex gender characters together even if they have zero chemistry or are just platonic. It even caves to Jeremy's request to help Michael be popular, even though it believes the task to be impossible even for the Squip. This actually works out surprisingly well as Michael does end up hooking up with a girl at the Halloween party. The play is where the story diverges wildly from the musical adaptation, as the novel version has Squip has Jeremy do an improvisational monologue to impress Christine, but it just ruins the play and gets him kicked out for breaking character. The Squip apologizes afterwards, believing itself to be faulty since it failed to help Jeremy get Christine to love him back AND ruined his popularity in the process. It even tells Jeremy to shut it down with MD Red, and to get the new model of Squip when it's released to try again. They both decide to write a book for Christine about the whole SQUIP experience to try to explain Jeremy's actions (this being the novel of Be More Chill). This is also a difference from the adaptation, as Jeremy does not get what he wants in the end.

I just love how good you are at storyboarding, you are so good at portraying emotion in their faces, the transitions just feel so natural and the composition is like chocolate to my eyes. I love all of this! You can really see how Jeremy's mannerisms change around Christine and how oblivious she is. He spends a lot of the time she is talking just staring at her fondly and she never picks up on it. I truly admire that you kept Christine in character by making her move so much even though it made the animatic more difficult to create, it really paid off. And the character design, THE CHARACTER DESIGN! They are just so cute and they look great in your art style! Thank you so much for posting this, it's truly amazing. Merry Christmas!
