I think Dawn is afraid that anyone she likes will “run away” so to speak, so like if he thought she sincerely wasn’t interested I don’t believe he would act this way. He’s trying to reassure her he won’t leave when he knows the real her.

I understand why people find Oggie creepy and clingy, but literally right after this song, there's a dialogue scene which shows Dawn realising Oggie isn't as bad as she first assumed and they end up having a lot in common. They end up being one of the only relationships they turn out well in the musical. But I guess context doesn't matter :/
I kinda feel that context is worse. I believe 100% Ogie isn't bad, but in a musical about abusive relationships, treating his behavior as harmless or adorable is actively harmful. I know lots of movies that treat terrible behavior as romantic which leads friends and family being unsympathetic to pleas for help and for abusive people to claim their actions are harmless. In a musical about an abusive relationship, this is downright reckless and irresponsible. It divorces the ending behavior of Earl from anything that could be a warning sign. It ruins any message they could try to send. Ogie's behavior was a red flag and so many people get hurt every year because no one treats this like it should. In fiction, we can divorce actions from their consequences. People end up with those like Earl BECAUSE we show actions like Ogie's as romantic. It ends well because it is a fictional story, not because it isn't abusive and scary. I and many others have gotten hurt because someone misconstrued romantic and abusive behavior and invited or encouraged abusive people to hurt us. I don't think you understand how horrifying it is to be constantly terrified and have everyone you know say the person is adorable, sweet, or even hope you get married. You complain, and everyone writes it off because it is seen as cute. When something does happen, everyone goes "Who could have guessed, s/he was so sweet?" And the warning signs were there but everyone read them as romantic and when your loved one begged for help you dismissed them.
Yeah, this creeped me out the first few times I heard it. It took a while but then I kinda realized that he knew Dawn had issues with commitment and was just extremely awkward in trying to prove he wasn't gonna leave her.
Pap Swap Okay, but you have to remember that this is Broadway we're talking about. This is the first time the audience is ever introduced to Ogie face to face. They're figuring out what place he has in the musical and what his personality is. The whole reason this song is blown up how it is is due to the fact that the writers had to find a way to introduce and give a basis to the Dawn/Ogie love story without deviating too much from the plot of Jenna's struggle coming to terms with being pregnant and dealing with her abusive husband. In musicals, for supporting characters there's no time to give them the backstories or introductions such as the main character because it's simple: it's not their story to be told. The creators wanted to bring this relationship to light and make it one of the only successful love stories in the musical, but since it was a side relationship and not the main focus they had to squeeze all the emotions and basis of Ogie's character into one song so it could all be over and done with and ready to proceed forward. That's why he seems so creepy, every emotion he has for Dawn that would otherwise be able to be expressed over long term and reasonable time span has to be crammed into one song because the two of them just aren't the main focus of the story. That's just show biz I guess.
@@blacklotus6408 I'll explain the context cos I also thought it was creepy the first time I listened to it but when I actually saw the show it was totally adorable
in this context it's adorable, it's just generally not a good lesson for real life dating. if someone is rejecting you and you're not in a musical, you need to take their words at face value and respect that
@@blearkob I see your point but I kind of disagree. It depends on the person but just like Dawn in the story, there are some people who need to be pushed a little into letting someone into their life. Some people (just like Dawn) are scared of a relationship and so try to find reasons to not like someone for fear of getting into a relationship and some people do need someone to be a little pushy but not too pushy to the point of being stalkerish and in most cases I agree it's not good dating advice
Get a man who looks at you the way Ogie looks at Dawn. [Edit]: Secondly, I saw this in New York and I'd like to confirm that Dawn had feelings for Ogie. She just didn't pursue him because she was afraid Ogie would be disappointed when he got to know her better. She acted aloof not because she wasn't interested, but rather because she pessimistic about the situation and was afraid of rejection later on, especially after she had grown into him.
Paxador she really did wanted someone who will stick up with her knowing how crazy scared she was. They were both scared of the failure, that they at the end found love.
JD: *Tries to kill everyone in his school and kills multiple people* Mostly everyone: *aw so misunderstood* Ogie: *loves a girl a lil to much* Mostly everyone: *creep*
I think everyone is just too used to the nice guy stigma. I can understand JD because he came from a semi unloving misunderstood family- his mom died and he and his father were constantly on the run:moving too much. Any attention he did get he went all in. From what I can gather from Oogie(?), he just wants to show that she can be herself around him. She can love home without having him be afraid of her calculating self ( I by calculating I mean she always assessed the situation before she shows any feeling). Both are creepy and cute in their own way.
I don't know what waitress is about. I don't know who these characters are. I don't know what the context of the song is. But I will now do research on Waitress and listen to the songs because of this animatic
CONTEXT: Dawn is a full-time waitress who signed up for a date on a dating website. Dawn gets her date, and after one date and learning that they have a lot in common (she loves baking, he loves eating baked goods, they both love United States history because it is stable and can never change, he makes her smile, her smile makes him smile, ect.) she decides that he is perfect and even too good for her. Dawn tells her new boyfriend to leave, thinking he will find someone much better and more confident than her, BUT, Dawn's new boyfriend Ogie wants to let Dawn know that he isn't going anywhere, only wants to be with Dawn, and that he wants to share all parts of his life with her without asking her any personal questions before she's ready in return. Dawn's fear of changes and being known (and then not liked or loved) are the only things holding her back from being with the man of her dreams, basically.
@@lunaf4863 Saw a comment on audio of "You Will Still Be Mine" that said something like, "Need me that old kind of love" or something to that effect. Someone out there still thinks that that kind of manipulative attitude is love and that's really sad.
At first i thought it was creepy, but when you pair it when he sees me it makes sense, she dosnt like letting people in, because she is afraid of being abandoned and hurt. But what hes saying that he will never abandon her and will always love her, which at first scares her but by at the end of the song begins to comfort her. You van tell by the way she says when you say never and the little smile she gives at the end.
So lemme get this straight: The majority of the musical theatre community thinks of JD as a misunderstood, smol bean but thinks this ACTUAL smol bean is creepy?? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
I’m just going off the fact that I watched both the movies and neither musical.... but in the films Veronica and JD had a mutual relationship and liked each other from the start. Yes he got possessive and exposed just how much of a sociopath he was to Veronica as their relationship grew, but the I think people just like that they let their relationship grow naturally in the first place that you really got to know who both Veronica and JD were. In waitress dawn goes on a 5minute date with Ogie and right out says it was the worst date of her life and what does this man do next, he comes to her place of work with flowers and pesters her until she agrees to a second date. A few weeks later she marries him out of the fact that she doesn’t think she’ll find someone better. So yes he maybe a sweet bean in the musical, but in the movie they gave him no character other than that of someone who fell in love with a girl after being in a date with her for 5 minutes and deciding that he’s not going to give up till she marries him, and since he gets so little screen time we don’t know anything about him which just makes it weirder since at least in the film he has no real character hence no way to form an attachment to him
I'm just now noticing that in her other animatic she had dawn scared to 'open a door that she couldn't close' and in the end of this one she dID AND IT WAS OGIE ON THE OTHER SIDE JSJDIDNDXSJSKMC I CAN'T
I like how in "When He Sees Me" you made this whole theme with the doors, and then at the end here, Ogie's on the other side of the door and Dawn closes it behind her. It's a cute touch.
It's implied Ogie realized that dawn's tendency to distance people. Dawn isn't giving Ogie a chance out of fear of failure not out of actually disliking him as a person. It's the reason she eventually comes around. While I wouldn't condone this in real life, we have more insight to the character as viewers than you would in real life. This song is adorable.
flaredrake2093 Wow, more people in these comments really need to say this! Nobody's talking about how in most cases, this is not going to work. Kiddos, this is cute in the musical, but please don't do this in real life!
flaredrake2093 I’m actually very much like dawn and a little like ogie. I do distance people in fear of hurting or being hurt, and I would like someone that shows me that he does know that and still sticks up. And you can see, ogie may not respect personal space, but he does respect her and actually purely wants to know because it only takes a taste to know something’s good
im like dawn, i like someone but ill just distance myself in fear of disappointment or heartbreak. cant help but hope ill find someone ill wholeheartedly pursue
One really cool detail you added in this is that Ogie never touches her first. This whole song is about Ogie saying “I know you’re afraid I’ll leave as soon as I get to know you, but I promise you I won’t,” and thus he’s always sitting within Dawn’s reach but also always allowing her to make the first move. He sits right where she can get to him easily, and that works perfectly with the character Ogie is displaying here.
@@urban_gse_ not these people at all really. Waitress is about the titular waitress Jenna trying to leave her abusive husband Earl to protect her unborn kid. On a meta level, I’d say it’s about bad relationships and how damaging they can be, but that we can escape them anyway. Ogie and Dawn, the two people in this video, are the only couple that turn out well.
I'm sending this to my boyfriend 😂 the only reason I agreed to go out on a date with him was because he was super persistent like really persistent like Ogie he's the sweetest and kindest guy I've ever met he'd give me the moon if I asked for it I'm so glad I gave him a chance I love this song so much

Silverfire I originally thought that he was Dawn's stalker when I was researching the musical. After hearing this song, I still haven't decided for sure.
Oh yes, there is! 😂 My boyfriend is a bit of both. He's silly, boisterous, and sometimes clingy like Ogie, enjoys roleplay and American history. Then there's his JD side minus the psycho and damaged parts, but has all the charm, wit, and smooth talker ways of JD. Plus, he loves acting and participating in plays. He just looks more like JD.
You guys call this creepy????? I heard this song on Spotify not knowing ANYTHING about the plot of this and still felt happy for an uncertain character like Dawn because she found someone who truly loved her, wouldn't betray her trust and really keep her happy.
I heard my it from my sister and my first reaction was "This is either really sweet or he's a creep" luckily my sister knew the context and I can enjoy the song without confusing myself.
LYRICS I will never let you let me leave I promise I'm not lying Go ahead ask anybody who has seen me trying, I'm not going If it seems like I did I'm probably waiting outside Such a stubborn man you'll likely never meet another When we have our family dinner you can ask my mother, she's the best Learn all about her on our family history test I'm gonna do this right Show you I'm not moving Wherever you go, I won't be far to follow oh oh I'm gonna love you so You'll learn what I already know I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me You can try, oh, but I I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me I grew up an only child in a suburb of the city Spent my days alone my only friend was a stray kitty called Sardine I thought it was hilarious to call a cat a kind of fish She played hard to get hissing while she scratched me What she was trying to say was "Ogie come and catch me" I learned quickly, perserverance stood between a cat and her new best friend, me Oh, I'm gonna do this right Show you I'm not moving Wherever you go, I won't be far to follow, oh oh I'm gonna love you so You'll learn what I already know I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me You can try, oh, but I I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me You can try, oh, but I I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
Ok, so I get how this can seem creepy. Just remember, the idea is Dawn is pulling away from romance because she is scared to get attached. What Ogie is saying is that she should give it a try, and that he'll treat her well. He's also expressing how he doesn't mind her social-akwardness, and they can work through it. At no point has Dawn said she doesn't like him or want him, more that she doesn't like romance. It's best expressed in the comparison to Sardine - the cat was scared of him, but secretly wanted someone to love.
Well, actually, she did say "Just take your mixed bouquet and *_leave."_* So, she technically did say that she didn't like what was happening and wanted Ogie to leave, but he didn't. Kinda just nitpicking tho
@@adrianaisme4710 She said that because she was afraid of rejection and that she couldn't handle falling in love, this is what Ogie is singing about in 'You'll never get rid of me' song in which he says he'll do this right meaning if she gives him a shot, he'll prove treat her right. Did you not read the description? Plus the whole point of him following her is due to the fact he wanted to prove himself to Dawn.
After seeing the show, dawn and ogie were really good for eachother (having things in common) and they both knew it. But dawn was just afraid she would disappoint (etc.) and Ogie knew that. So this song is really cute because he’s trying to get her out of her bubble and tell her that it’ll work out, but that’s just how I see it
@@peepawcow8288 I didn't say I have an issue with it or anything. I know the context. I'm just saying she technically asked him to leave, so others do have a reason. Never expressed my own opinion on it. 😒
@@adrianaisme4710 I never did say that you were wrong about her wanting to leave, I just was correcting you on why she said it. I don't know if my words came out harsh but you're making it obviously sound that way. You don't have to get all defensive over what I said.
Okay, I find this cute and adorable, before and after I saw the show. If anyone compares him to JD, an actual stalker and, let me point out, murderer, there’s something wrong with you.
I seriously don't get the JD crush. I like nerds, but cmon! Veronica pretended to hang herself to get away from him! Killed three people, then killed himself with a bomb, and everyone is like adorable! Then Ogie, the sweet nerd who is giving dawn what she needs, is creepy? I don't get it!
@@glue6679 i can mostly get the JD appeal, people loooooove antagonist characters with tragic backstories capable to make you feel sympathy for em, and he's kinda dorky in the musical and the whole dark emo aesthetic works well too? but yeah, nothing can excuse his actions and people have to admit that trauma isn't a excuse to do horrible shit like that, and i'm telling this as someone that likes JD too lol And then i don't really know why people treat Ogie as a creep? dude i don't even know the show but this was adorable and kinda exaggerated, something out of a really cheesy romance musical and that's okay! i gotta watch the show just to do justice to my man Ogie right here y'all seem to doing him dirty rn:(
I cry when I see the comments of people saying Ogie is a creep or stalker. He is just passionate. He is just expressing his love and Dawn and him eventually learn each other. No guy is perfect. He was just trying to show he was good enough for Dawn.
Titan Wizard Fiona HE WAS WAS ALSO SHOWING DAWN THAT HE LOVES HER SO SHE CAN COME OUT OF HER SHELL, BECAUSE SHE SAID SHE WAS SCARED TO COME OUT OF HER SHELL, Jesus fuck I love their relationship
I know how people say the song itself is creepy lyric-wise, but the animatic does a great job of making it clear of his intentions. He doesn't force her around the place too much, he just follows her. He doesn't grab her hand and pull her up, he lets out her hand. All of his expressions are genuine, and if she really hated him, he would probably give up if she actually got genuinely creeped out and wanted to file a restraining order. Yes the far-to-follow bit is a bit odd, but he is following her during the whole song. If he was at his mother's he wouldn't be there with her, but he'd likely want to communicate with her afterwards, you know? I think all he wants to do is get her, not cling around her once he does.
@@aybaycaydayeayfaygay2834 You really are doing this in another thread. Can you stop trying to ruin this for everyone? The creator took some creative (anime like) liberties, it's not that bad. These two are literally the only relationship that isn't based off of an affair or doesn't have abuse in it. Ogie is a clingy nerd, but he's sweet if you've ever watched the play. Their relationship beside the marriage that Jen had should be the least of your worries, gd mate.
Ogie seems almost obsessive yeah but that's because he never really had a connection like this before so he over exaggerated it extremely. But Ogie is great
can we appreciate this person's voice and stamina?? maybe my stamina has just decreased but i'm so envious of how fast he can sing, and in one breath!!
All these people saying this is disturbing like, no? Dawn *agreed* to go on a date with him, and yes it was a slip-up to tell him where she worked, but he was so desperately in love with her. It wasn't like he attempted to force himself on her when he showed up to work. He's just a desperate suitor who has a problem with clingyness. Jenna's marriage is much more distubing than this. This isn't disturbing, 'You will still be mine,' is much creepier, look it up. Ogie didn't try to force himself upon her, didn't try to manipulate her or any of that, he was just trying really hard to prove himself and is extremely socially awkward/quirky and different.
Agreeing to go on a date doesn’t mean she agreed to meet up again or have him follow her around. In the animatic he actually did attempt a forced sexual encounter, I know it’s not cannon but it’s worth pointing out (0:50) Just because something is creepier doesn’t mean it isn’t creepy. *Imagine going on a date with someone and they start hanging outside your place of work after you tell them to leave. That’s fucking creepy.* Regardless of whether or not he meant to be creepy, he was creepy. *The only reason it worked out well was because the relationship is fictional* *I had a friend on the receiving end of a clingy guy trying to be nice, he sent her flowers constantly and followed her places, like actually followed her in his car while she walked, the dude literally saw himself as being friendly and didn’t realize he was being a creep.*
[ Brianne_Mari ] No, but I’ve listened to the songs in it multiple times, read plot summaries of it, and read reviews since I couldn’t make the trip to see it.
AyBayCayDayEayFayGay Dawn sang a song about her commitment issues it’s called when he sees me you should really listen to it because it is lovely. Also Ogie is just trying to prove that he won’t treat Dawn horribly in a relationship like Dawn fears so that’s why when he sings I will never ever leave he doesn’t mean it in a stalker kind of way he means I will never just walk out of your life like that.
Kelsei Simon I have listened to it, but having commitments issues doesn’t make that kind of harassment okay. Yeah, trying to prove he’s a good guy by being a creep. “If it seems like I did I’m probably waiting outside” he just admitted to being a stalker.
yall this song isnt meant to be stalkerey, this is a girl who's insecure and fearing abandonment and dissapointment in a relationship being reassured by an enthusiastic nerd that he'll always be there with her and for her :P
with the context of the musical [keep in mind i havent seen it], i figure this is less about "it's romantic to pursue a woman who isnt interested in you" and MORE about dawn's tendency to push away people she likes, and how he won't let her do that. which... sure, yeah, in real life might get messy, but i see what the story is saying.
omg ok so Ogie is purple, which contains blue, right? and Dawn is blue, and purple can’t be purple without blue, so that means that Ogie can’t be Ogie without Dawn. idk maybe i’m reading into this too much lol
@@sarahkins_bihh I think he didn't like being red, so Dawn being around made him a lovely shade of purple, and Ogie likes himself as purple so much that he needs Dawn and he sees himself as better around her. Idk, I'm grasping at straws here, folks.
“I love you means your never ever getting rid of me” isn’t a stalker thing. What Ogie means is that if you love someone then you love them with the good AND the bad. And that’s what Dawn needs and that’s what Ogie tells her and proves to her by continuing to declare his love for her. Yeah it’s extreme but Dawn needs extreme.
Y'all please T^T one person's "creepy" can be another person's "just enough". As a person with anxiety, I 100% understand how this song is (in a little bit of a cheery, comedic way) assuaging Dawn's fears about being left broken-hearted. From another perspective, though, I love how this song could ALSO be interpreted as yandere/stalker-ish. Nothing is black and white!! The versatility only adds to the song!!!
I used to this he was just a tad bit creepy but watching this animation made me realize nope. You did it in a way that make him super kinda and socially awkward somehow... For that I applaud you. One of my favorites, keep it up!
Ship it! Also I love you sangled! I can understand why people see this song as creepy. But I actually really think this song protrays ogie really well.
So, is no one going to talk about how Ogie is supposed to be a foil to the main character’s abusive husband? Because her husband is also obsessive, but obsessive in the way that he demands that she not save money, that she not spend time with her friends, and that she not let their unborn baby be a girl. I think the whole point of this song is to establish a line between intense, invested love and abusive, overbearing control. Ogie shows that there’s invested, and then there’s abuse.
I've watched this SO many times and JUST realized the symbolism of the When He Sees Me Animatic when, at the end, she walks through the door but then runs and hides behind it again, kinda of wanting to "come out" of her shell and then at the end of this one, she finally walks through the door and finds him
All these people who haven't: 1. Seen the musical And 2. Read the description Keep saying Ogie is an obsessive psychopath but... he's not... as Sangled says in the description of this video he is the romantic opposite of Dawn, where he is eager to latch on to someone and be clingy Dawn is eager to run. Their relationship both in the movie and musical is sweet. he helps her open up, and she helps him to ease back a little and not be so clingy. I can understand how some people at first listen might think of Ogie as a psycho (even I did upon first listen) but before you state an opinion please make sure you have all the information and try to see both sides. I'm not trying to hate on anyone, just trying to spread the information
See, this song is creepy as fuck and I have watched the musical several times and have listened to the soundtrack too many times to count. After this, it turns sweet, but this right now isn't acceptable behaviour and we shouldn't be normalizing it. It's extremely out of place in a musical about abusive relationships.
@@withoutcontext816 I agree. I know Ogie and Dawn get together, but this is too much. It's embarrassing and humiliating to have someone admit in public that you can't get rid of them. It's not okay to stalk someone and be this persistent. You're basically pushing that person into a corner without even touching them.
what a banger of a song i listened to waitress but i wish it was just a story of dawn and ogie cus their songs are such BOPS and they're the best two characters and i love them
I loved how in ur "When He Sees Me" animatic it had this scene with the doors and how she sort of walked in not knowing what to expect and then u have her opening the door in this animatic and then it's oGIE AND MY HEART IS JUST ALL WARMED UP BY THAT
I can see how this could be creepy but what I'm thinking is that he KNOWS she's in love with him but won't accept it afraid of the unknown outcome since she likes to know things so he convinces her he won't leave and will always be there with her. Kinda like reassuring her of his stable love for her.
This is the sweetest song ever. Like I understand how it can come off as creepy, but I think it's so cute how the guy is so persistent. Dawn is scared of falling in love (as seen in when he sees me) so it's natural for her to want to push this guy away, but he's not having it. Hdbjbejnc it's just cute
My friend who loves Waitress showed me this song today and here's the things I said: "Cool." "They're so SOUTHERN." "This...he...wow..." "NEVER EVER GETTIN' RID OF ME!" "He's very clingy." "Kinda a creepo but okay."
The way you've changed from full coloring to shading it actually looks great I can definitely see a the difference, so I'm basically saying that this is great , and you did a great job
I love the symbolism at the end linking this animatic to "When he sees me". So in "When he sees me", Dawn walks down a corridor fulled with doors and when she says she's scared of breaking open, she backs away from the door, but when she continues to say she wants someone to talk to, it shows her slightly opening a door. And in this one, she walks straight into a door without noticing it, and with slight hesitation, opens it to show Ogie.
Waitress came to Arizona yesterday from October 2nd- 7th. I saw it opening night and it was flipping amazing!!! My mom and I been in love with the movie for as long as I can remember! She surprised me with tickets for my birthday and went to the ASU Gammage. The whole audience was shocked by Jeremy Morse’s Ogie, he did an outstanding job!
Everyone is talking about Ogie and JD and stuffs, but the only thing I care is the stray cat named Sardine If I have a cat, I'll name it Sardine and make it eat sardines
I have a theory that the reason why Ogie seems to feel creepy is because this is how Dawn's perspective sees him. But you'll see that by the end, he just becomes cute because Dawn probably started to fall for him.
"I'm gonna do this right, show you I'm not moving" If you need any proof of how genuenly sweet and meaningfull the song is behind the face value "funny stalker comedy song" facade, this lyric tells it all. Read it in any other tone and its clearly an incredibly sweet and reasuring way of saying " you can trust me, i will always be there for you". It's honestly amazing writting how this song can go from a comedy creppy number to being entirely recontextualized as a sweet and romantic love melody from only a couple more scenes after this song, it plays not only with our expectations but with our personal biases and prejudices towards people like Ogie, and thats the best kind of writting there is, the one that heavily involves and plays with the audience.

Ikr?
Lou He's still creepy in and out of context lol
Out of context: Wtf this is creepy

Seriously, I found this song through “egg” and I still can’t get the idea that this is creepy out of my head

You just explained the reason why I have trouble making friends...
Her personality is shown in the When He Sees Me song so yes that does make sense eventhough I haven't watched the play

I think everyone is just too used to the nice guy stigma. I can understand JD because he came from a semi unloving misunderstood family- his mom
died and he and his father were constantly on the run:moving too much. Any attention he did get he went all in. From what I can gather from Oogie(?), he just wants to show that she can be herself around him. She can love home without having him be afraid of her calculating self ( I by calculating I mean she always assessed the situation before she shows any feeling). Both are creepy and cute in their own way.

@@enterprisingbiosphere3933 do they end up together?
People who think that Ogie is clingy and creepy but also think that Earl is romantic disappoint me. Ogie is a sweetheart.
WHO thinks earl is romantic he was EATING CHIPS while his wife was in LABOR
So lemme get this straight:
The majority of the musical theatre community thinks of JD as a misunderstood, smol bean but thinks this ACTUAL smol bean is creepy??
MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
Yeah, what is up with that?
So yes he maybe a sweet bean in the musical, but in the movie they gave him no character other than that of someone who fell in love with a girl after being in a date with her for 5 minutes and deciding that he’s not going to give up till she marries him, and since he gets so little screen time we don’t know anything about him which just makes it weirder since at least in the film he has no real character hence no way to form an attachment to him
Was the make it make sense a Danny Gonzalez reference?

I like how in "When He Sees Me" you made this whole theme with the doors, and then at the end here, Ogie's on the other side of the door and Dawn closes it behind her. It's a cute touch.
Finally someone who noticed that detail (I'm from the Spanish community, and I just came from the other video jsjsjs)
Was the door thing with Dawn a reference to When He Sees Me? Because it looked the same as when she fantasizes about finding love.
yup. motifs!
Sola Prestson OH SNAP
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING XD
Nuance? In this comment section? It's more likely than you think!
Isk I've never seen this what is waitress about
@@urban_gse_ not these people at all really.

My boyfriend is a bit of both. He's silly, boisterous, and sometimes clingy like Ogie, enjoys roleplay and American history. What about girlfriends what are there levels?

You guys call this creepy????? I heard this song on Spotify not knowing ANYTHING about the plot of this and still felt happy for an uncertain character like Dawn because she found someone who truly loved her, wouldn't betray her trust and really keep her happy.
It's just because the lyrics sound a little like he's forcing his love on her. Some people just need more context for stuff.
I heard my it from my sister and my first reaction was "This is either really sweet or he's a creep" luckily my sister knew the context and I can enjoy the song without confusing myself.
LYRICS
I will never let you let me leave I promise I'm not lying
Go ahead ask anybody who has seen me trying, I'm not going
If it seems like I did I'm probably waiting outside
Such a stubborn man you'll likely never meet another
When we have our family dinner you can ask my mother, she's the best
Learn all about her on our family history test
I'm gonna do this right
Show you I'm not moving
Wherever you go, I won't be far to follow oh oh
I'm gonna love you so
You'll learn what I already know
I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
You can try, oh, but I
I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
I grew up an only child in a suburb of the city
Spent my days alone my only friend was a stray kitty called Sardine
I thought it was hilarious to call a cat a kind of fish
She played hard to get hissing while she scratched me
What she was trying to say was "Ogie come and catch me"
I learned quickly, perserverance stood between a cat and her new best friend, me
Oh, I'm gonna do this right
Show you I'm not moving
Wherever you go, I won't be far to follow, oh oh
I'm gonna love you so
You'll learn what I already know
I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
You can try, oh, but I
I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
You can try, oh, but I
I love you means you're never, ever, ever getting rid of me
Ok, so I get how this can seem creepy.
Well, actually, she did say "Just take your mixed bouquet and *_leave."_*
So, she technically did say that she didn't like what was happening and wanted Ogie to leave, but he didn't.

I didn't say I have an issue with it or anything.
@@glue6679 i can mostly get the JD appeal, people loooooove antagonist characters with tragic backstories capable to make you feel sympathy for em, and he's kinda dorky in the musical and the whole dark emo aesthetic works well too? but yeah, nothing can excuse his actions and people have to admit that trauma isn't a excuse to do horrible shit like that, and i'm telling this as someone that likes JD too lol

OGIE IS THE MOST PRECIOUS MAN IN BROADWAY MUSICALS! HE DESERVES ALL THE FRIENDS AND A PARTNER IN THE UNIVERSE!

In the animatic he actually did attempt a forced sexual encounter, I know it’s not cannon but it’s worth pointing out (0:50)
Just because something is creepier doesn’t mean it isn’t creepy. *Imagine going on a date with someone and they start hanging outside your place of work after you tell them to leave. That’s fucking creepy.*
Regardless of whether or not he meant to be creepy, he was creepy. *The only reason it worked out well was because the relationship is fictional*
*I had a friend on the receiving end of a clingy guy trying to be nice, he sent her flowers constantly and followed her places, like actually followed her in his car while she walked, the dude literally saw himself as being friendly and didn’t realize he was being a creep.*

From another perspective, though, I love how this song could ALSO be interpreted as yandere/stalker-ish. Nothing is black and white!! The versatility only adds to the song!!!
I legit want an Ogie to love me sweetly and healthily with love because I'm also anxious AF about being abandoned.
I used to this he was just a tad bit creepy but watching this animation made me realize nope. You did it in a way that make him super kinda and socially awkward somehow... For that I applaud you. One of my favorites, keep it up!
Yeah, his whole deal is that he's super clingy and jazz and she is the opposite
This is my favorite song in the musical. It makes me so happy for some reason? Ogie is so pure it's contagious.
Ogie: **senually sticks his finger into the food and licks it**
Dawn: **proceeds to still serve the food**
Me: Jesus, that's so unsanitary, WTF?
I just noticed an kept replaying the scene an it's his pie he stuck his finger in ;-;
Le Potato ok that sounds dirty
she served it to him lmao
it' s corona time 。
I'm pretty sure it was his food
Ogie is legit my favourite character in this musical. Despite the obsessive clinginess, he's so freaking adorable.
Ship it! Also I love you sangled!
I can understand why people see this song as creepy. But I actually really think this song protrays ogie really well.
He's just a little obsessive. In a cute way though.
Cant we appreciate how Ogie payed pies for everyone to continue his story about sardines?
Can i be honest. The flowers ogie got for dawn-
-reminds me of mash potatoes :"")
a random account Aaaah same.
Those were flowers!
Its a fucking bush
More like a cauliflower bunch...
a random account mashed potatoes are way better then flowers
Fuck well ill guess ill listen to this on repeat until i hate it
Me to
Been trying. Never got to hating it :D still on repeat
This is either extremely sweet or one of your worst nightmares, context really is key
YE S I WAS JUST GETTING INTO THIS MUSICAL BLE S S
I just saw it yesterday and I FREAKING LOVE IT!
(I cried so many times)
He's such a gem I love him so much he's so adorable
So, is no one going to talk about how Ogie is supposed to be a foil to the main character’s abusive husband?
Because her husband is also obsessive, but obsessive in the way that he demands that she not save money, that she not spend time with her friends, and that she not let their unborn baby be a girl.
I think the whole point of this song is to establish a line between intense, invested love and abusive, overbearing control. Ogie shows that there’s invested, and then there’s abuse.
when I first heard the song it sounded kinda stalkerish, but now I see how much of a pure child Ogie is
The ending was so clever!! With the door I don't know if I'm right but I'm pretty sure it's to reference when he sees me and it's so CLEVER *claps*
I've watched this SO many times and JUST realized the symbolism of the When He Sees Me Animatic when, at the end, she walks through the door but then runs and hides behind it again, kinda of wanting to "come out" of her shell
and then at the end of this one, she finally walks through the door and finds him
All these people who haven't:
1. Seen the musical
And
2. Read the description
Keep saying Ogie is an obsessive psychopath but... he's not... as Sangled says in the description of this video he is the romantic opposite of Dawn, where he is eager to latch on to someone and be clingy Dawn is eager to run.
Also sorry if this is written poorly. I'm tired XD
I love the accent of characters! Sounds really friendly and warm.🤗

Beautiful😂😂😂
XD
Perfect
I loved how in ur "When He Sees Me" animatic it had this scene with the doors and how she sort of walked in not knowing what to expect and then u have her opening the door in this animatic and then it's oGIE AND MY HEART IS JUST ALL WARMED UP BY THAT
people really be calling ogie creepy while they call jd a cute misunderstood cinnamon roll
For those of you who are fans of Wicked, Ogie and Boq were actually played by the same person C:
This guy is the biggest dork that has ever dorked and I love him for that.
I can see how this could be creepy but what I'm thinking is that he KNOWS she's in love with him but won't accept it afraid of the unknown outcome since she likes to know things so he convinces her he won't leave and will always be there with her. Kinda like reassuring her of his stable love for her.
That door symbolism. *mmh* Feels good.
2:09
That person singing in the backround is me when I laugh.
She opened up a door at the end that is SO SWEET WITH SYMBOLISM AHHH
This is the sweetest song ever. Like I understand how it can come off as creepy, but I think it's so cute how the guy is so persistent. Dawn is scared of falling in love (as seen in when he sees me) so it's natural for her to want to push this guy away, but he's not having it. Hdbjbejnc it's just cute
My friend who loves Waitress showed me this song today and here's the things I said:
"Cool."
"They're so SOUTHERN."
"This...he...wow..."
"NEVER EVER GETTIN' RID OF ME!"
"He's very clingy."
"Kinda a creepo but okay."
Update: I really love this song

The way you've changed from full coloring to shading it actually looks great I can definitely see a the difference, so I'm basically saying that this is great , and you did a great job
I love the symbolism at the end linking this animatic to "When he sees me". So in "When he sees me", Dawn walks down a corridor fulled with doors and when she says she's scared of breaking open, she backs away from the door, but when she continues to say she wants someone to talk to, it shows her slightly opening a door. And in this one, she walks straight into a door without noticing it, and with slight hesitation, opens it to show Ogie.
You have *no* clue how many times I have watched this, I was literally holding my phone in the store and watching this exact animatic and sing along.
Everyone is talking about Ogie and JD and stuffs, but the only thing I care is the stray cat named Sardine
If I have a cat, I'll name it Sardine and make it eat sardines
I have a theory that the reason why Ogie seems to feel creepy is because this is how Dawn's perspective sees him. But you'll see that by the end, he just becomes cute because Dawn probably started to fall for him.
The ending is cute, she finally got to open up a door with someonr and actually close it, like she was afraid about in her last song 💓❤
"I'm gonna do this right, show you I'm not moving"
If you need any proof of how genuenly sweet and meaningfull the song is behind the face value "funny stalker comedy song" facade, this lyric tells it all.
Just Imagine...
"I LOVE YOU SO YOU'RE NEVER EVER GOING TO GET RID OF ME!"
"I'm Gay...."
