To answer your question “I hope this helps someone” this definitely helped me. I was going to sell my bmpcc4k and get an FX30 but now I’m willing to upgrade it to bmpcc6k 😂
simple and straight forward. answered my questions with no lame humor or long-winded life stories. why can't these other video makers be this normal and helpful? u got yourself a subscriber, my friend..
For controlled situations I would love to use BMPCC6k. No competition, FX30 isn't close to the quality of the BRAW yet. The highlight rolloff on BMPCC6k is so much better than the FX30. But FX30 will be nice for travel due to size and autofocus.
I got bmc 6k g2. I bought fully because had EF-lenses before and recording raw video to my Samsung SSD drives was easy option. But if I would choose now, I would go FX30, simply because of build quality, rotation of screen, weather proof and size. So FX30 had lot better build quality and usability by size and screen...this is vital if you are solo shooter who is moving out from studio. So dont go "image quality in front", because you need to be able to handle camera in different environments (go agility/dexterity in front if you are solo shooter doing outside shots)
Fx30 is the best choice I ever made the lenses available are incredible and it is cheap and everything is so light and portable I use fast lenses in low light and I'm fine I ended up buying 2 more for 1300
Funny enough I was about to do the same thing (even down to buying it because of EF lenses), very glad I found this video. Maybe down the line if I want to do more elaborate stuff the 6K would be worth the extra effort but for my first camera I think an FX30 is going to be able to do the things I want much easier and better
@@lostoncassette 6K resolution as selling/buying argument is not allways valid, so dont put that either in "front criteria" to buy it. If you got camera able to shoot 4k resolution that can be good also. I got main camera as Canon 90D. Despite it have 8bit video, image is super sharp because its downsampled from 7k sensor. This camera serves me in most scenarios, if no need to do high quality stuff, but recording sharp image is enough and colors fine.
The Pocket6K image quality is jaw dropping but the flexibly of the FX30 are very hard to match, it has world class leading auto focus and in body stabilization. Both camera are amazing but design for different jobs.
But Fx30 do put out 4.7k Prores Raw to Atomos monitor. If you are adding so much accessories on BM to make it work, why not a ninja v on FX30. just saying.
I recently shot a music video in a jungle scene, i used both bmpcc6k pro and sony a7s3, the difference was enormous. The skintones couldnt be saved in the sony footage, the green reflection from the foliage was easily corrected on the blackmagic but was totally ruined in the sony.
Skin, this is the most important thing, this is what everyone forgets to talk about. Our eyes subconsciously see falsehood in the colors of skin and grass
You literally always drop a video THE MOMENT I GO ONTO RUclips TO SEARCH FOR THE EXACT SAME TOPIC! I'm so glad your content got recommended to me a couple months ago as I was doing more research on the Sony FX30. Ive been looking for a budget cinema camera to invest in, but wanted to make sure I'd be making a good decision (this video especially secured that decision for me as I've also been looking at BMPCC6KPro, but right now my needs are definitely for something more lightweight, travel friendly, more on-the-go filmmaking despite having booked an in-studio shoot as well). I subbed and so far all the content you've been dropping has always been exactly what I'm looking for, answering all my doubts and questions and even reassurance with your inspirational ending segments. Never disappoints. Even your new video on the Sirui lens (this past week I've actually been randomly looking at Sirui's anamorphic lens options for APS-C 😂😭). Been meaning to write a thank you comment for all the hard work you put into making videos. 🙏✨️ You're super cool!
If you would replace the BMPCC6k by an Arri Alexa mini against the FX30 you would have complained about the exact same points and get to the same conclusion that the FX30 is so much better. It’s absurd! I just used an FX-30 for a project and I felt so much peace of mind to know that it had autofocus. By the end of the project I hadn't used the autofocus even once. And the FX-30 422 10Bit files aren't tiny pills either, the files were still huge.
I own the 6K and the A74 and I find myself reaching for the 6k 85% of the time. The 6k is what I use whenever I have a planned shoot, and when paired with the easy rig it's such a great combo. The A74 is definitely the run and gun social media quick turn around camera.
The bmpcc 6k pro have dynamic range for the post production color graded with 12bit color B-raw, it's very perfect. The prores 422 files is very smooth process and saving time on Mac M1.
as crazy as this sounds...I have two fx30...yet I still think the best image, better than Sony, Panasonic, Fujitsu, comes from the BMPCC6K...I like my Sony, but some of the images from Blackmagic have an artistic look..
Imho if you want both then the URSA Broadcast G2 might be a better option rather than the BMPCC6K. No cage needed and you get so much more, yet the same sensor and BRAW. Surely you'll need to upgrade your bag, tripod, etc too so it doesn't come as a cheap upgrade as it may appear at first sight.
Thank you for this! I wonder if you can make some further comparison between 200% crop of the BMPCC6k and the fx30 (or other cameras of different resolution). I wonder if the crop is very noticeable using just a 4k camera. Your cropped pictures with theBMPCC6k looked amazing, but I wonder how much lower quality it will look 200% cropped with the fx30. Side-by-side.
Really great thoughts at the end on democratization vs uniqueness. There is something to be said about slowing down and taking your time to make the right decisions with video. (And life) Great video Kensei! It was fun to stumble into your channel and get some really great thoughts.
The Pocket 6k Pro is much better than the standard Pocket 6k for usability. With the battery grip I can shoot for 3 hours before changing batteries. It also has ND filters and a tilting screen
I'm stuck with my bmpcc4k because I have micro four-thirds lenses. I like it and don't make good videos anyway. If I was moving up to something better, I would look at the Sigma fp.
6k is absolutely beautiful, but I do feel that with these kinds of small pro-sumer cameras, the low light performance is such a massive factor. At the end of the day they both look incredible, but the fx30 gives you a lot more room to get footage with less lighting equipment, its smaller and easy to travel with, and its weather sealed, which seems more fitting of the kind of person who would buy one of these cameras
Agree. BMPCC6K is absolutely the king, but it requires a little more lighting efforts. FX30 is more casual, which I really like for vlogs. Although sometimes I use 6K for vlogs too lol

hi kensei, I really loved your review, but here's my question regarding buying new camera for product videography. I am considering sony a7iv, fx30 and bmpcc 6k/pro. Now my main concern is high fps with sharp resolutions. I know fx30 is best option if I need higher fps like it has 240fps but it has more noise, aps-c + too much crop factor. The other two cameras are ff with sharp quality but they don't have high fps. So I need your suggestion for my product videography camera.
The FX30 sensor is 6k and downsamples to 4k. The resolution difference is not really noticeable. Try downsampling the Pocket's 6k footage to 4k and look at the images side by side. Good luck telling the difference. I feel what you are seeing is the color depth rather than resolution. BRAW 12 bit looks a bit more lifelike than 10 bit h264. Also the FX30 is higher resolution than the two top cinema cameras today the Alexa LF and Alexa 35, both 4.5k. Most of the major motion pictures in the last 10 years were not even shot in 4k.
I'm trying to make up my mind if the fx30 is the right choice for me or if I should go for the fx3. Hesitating because of how "bad" the low light capabilities are compared to fx3 or a7siii
The FX30 is a great package and body. The new ZV-E1 is a camera I wanted to hate. But, the sensor and image quality are too hard to ignore. Works be great to see a video about your thoughts on these two.
As a non professional, they look the same to me...I see no difference, other than if you want to crop...but then the BMPCC is gigantic and has no AF. 😭
