Great drop, but it blows my mind that all those bottles at one store. 200+ Eagle Rare, 300+ Blantons, 350 Stagg! (let alone all the others) and I never see any of these in my area. WL Weller for $130! I have seen it once in the wild and it was priced around $1,200.
Yeah, I believe they made a deal with Buffalo Trace since the Kroger Headquarters are 20 miles away. Everything there was MSRP which was awesome. I believe they stocked up for a few weeks/mknths
Man I feel bad for Brad… #2 and he went with the WLW. He could have gone with the pappy 20 or 23 and traded that for 2 WLWs… but his choice gave you a pappy 20. Congrats man! Should have gone and bought a lotto right after that haha
Great video - I was there (my number was 742 - so missed #1 by a single digit). I still ended up top 75 so it was a good day. Great snag on the Pappy 20. For a millisecond there I had to debate on what I'd get at #1. I think Pappy 15 or 20 would've been my pick. I ended up with a SFTB and a Michters BP
Oh damn! 1 number! Thats nuts! Yeah I debated those and the OFC but couldn’t afford that in the moment. Nice grab! Can beat those two either! Cheers Greg! Appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing!
Thanks, David! Yeah… I just don’t have the 3k to spend up front on that. Plus I would want to drink it and not flip it. So I was more than happy to grab the PVW20. Thanks for watching!
Absolutely insane event!! I would have picked the exact same bottles you did, great scores! I waited in line at 3:30 am at Total Wine drop in California earlier this month. Was 6th in line and managed to score a Heaven Hill 18!
I definitely would have gotten the OFC and flipped it. I don't flip any bottles but those I would 1000% flip so I could buy more normal priced bottles.
Yeah… I debated it. Just hard to stomach 3,000 in the situation I’m in right now. Plus I would want to drink it and not flip it haha 😆 this route I get to drink something and not feel too guilty about it haha cheers Brad! 🥃🥃
Yeah. One bottle per table. You could buy as many store picks as you wanted which were in barrels around the store, but they weren’t anything that they didn’t sell in the store on a normal day already
It’s funny because I thought you were on your phone with someone showing them what was on the tables! LOL I’m in your video for just a second while you’re interviewing people at the counter, you pan left and I’m in checkout line wearing a grey hoodie and ball cap. Cheers to you!
Haha 🤣 I was definitely just trying to get video for this haha well if you’re back up here let or know! And we can grab a drink or hunt together or something!
Wow... I've never been this lucky. Congratulations 👏🏼. Who ended up with the Pappy 23? It looked like it went #1 Double Eagle, #2 WLW, #3 PVW20, #4 PVW20
I was so happy and lucky! I wonder if they actually had a PVW23 because I saw a sign for it but it wasn’t on the table… I would have gotten it and traded down for a 15 and something else had they had one! Thanks for taking the time to watch, comment, and subscribe! Cheers Newmennium!
3600 bottles?! Thats why i never see shit at the kroger pick n save up here in wisconsin, never gonna shop at a kroger pick n save again, alcohol sales are boosted by sales up north and then all the good booze is kept down south, ain't that some phucked up BS!! Nice score on the pappy but michters over a bottle of BTAC ???!!!?????!! HUH
The Michter’s 10 was on a different table from the BTAC. All the BTAC were on table 1. The M10 was the best bottle on Table 2, 2nd choice there would have been the Michter’s Barrell Strength Rye. Thanks for watching Bill
Buffalo Trace’s distribution is so inconsistent. I haven’t seen an Eagle rare here in Northern Kentucky in about 6+ months. My dad can find it at Meijer and some Mariano’s in the Chicagoland area every once in a while but it’s inconsistent. In Ohio (10 min away from me) I haven’t seen an Eagle Rare in 1.5 years, but Weller Special reserve every other week. So wild
So, you’re allowed one selection from each table? You got the only two that you wanted? How many were you allowed to get, if you wanted to spend the $$$ ?
You were only allowed one from each table. As many as you’d like from the barrels of their barrel picks. I already had a couple Buffalo Trace and bottle of the Bowman and Bakers on table three. Otherwise the picks were ones that the store already had available for months so I had a few. Plus didn’t want to spend much more money than the ~$500 I already had.
Nice hit. Glad to hear Kroger going to change this up next time - Ohio guys that already have a state lottery and tons of Weller shouldn’t have same chances as local KY regular shoppers.
Thanks! I was happy how they handled this. Takes a lot of the flippers out of the equation who wait at stores for days just to get a bottle and turn it for a profit
I will say, the line went faster than expected. They were done in 2 hours and 55 minutes. But that’s definitely a long time. Last person in line got a Stagg Jr
That’s awesome, as sad as it is I’d probably take whichever has the most trade value and then trade it for what I actually want. Based on the video that probably would’ve been the pappy 20 and I could trade it for GTS and WLW
Don't blame you there! Probably could get even more for the Pappy 20... Im not sure what I am going to do with it yet. Cheers, @ona1000! Appreciate you watching and commenting!
@@whiskey_weather Yes my friend and I both got Stagg jr and so did my wife who was 150 back from us and his wife who was the last person. In fact they had so much stagg jr that there were cases left after she went through.
That is a crazy drop! It's sad though that this is almost how this stuff has to be handled because we have adults that act like children. The only problem is scheduling right? It has to be held when working people can actually make it there. I think it is one option anyways, as it spreads multiple bottles across a decent amount of people with no one person or group hoovering all the really high end stuff. It sure beats the lousy allocation in my area. The best chance I have to get any allocated bottles is an end of the month raffle at one of my local stores. You can only get one bottle and that's if your name gets drawn. The options in my area are: play a raffle game each month and hope for the best, get lucky at one of the other stores or look to the secondary market. All three of those options just really suck and it drains the life out of you. If it wasn't for some of my friends who are also into bourbon I would have dropped this hobby a long time ago (I still think about giving it up). They've been able to help me get a couple bottles like Knob Creek 12 and Eagle Rare, but mainly they let me try all the allocated bottles they have. From that I've been able to more or less figure out which ones I actually like and those are the bottles I'm still trying to get. Any of the bottles on those tables were big wins! You can't make any bad choices from any of the three tables. I would have grabbed a Pappy 20 too most likely. Who wouldn't? Pappy Van Winkle at retail?
Definitely sad that it has come to this... Sadly we have had too many drops that were small and it was first come first served. All the career flippers were camped in line and no one got anything. This at least gives everyone an equal chance . Where are you located? I was in Alabama and it was a terrible spot as well. Hope you are able to snag something good. If there is something you are looking for, feel free to reach out to me on IG or email and I will try to see if I can snag you a bottle. Right?!? Hard to pass Pappy at retail no matter what is there. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and write such a thoughtful comment. Cheers, Meta!
They put a sign out in the store the Monday before as confirmation but I was told by one of the store employees a few weeks before and the bourbon group on Facebook that I’m in had heard as well and we talked about it for a week.
I think it was $2,000 or there abouts. This was their biggest event yet! They did a few earlier this year for store grand re-openings where they had about 1,200-1,500 bottles. This was definitely a crazy set up. Only thing I’ve seen like it was the AL ABC annual event but that’s because Alabama doesn’t put any allocations out ever
Feels like you have to take the Pappy 20 (if they don't have the 23) or Double Rare (if it was still there) but I'd honestly get the WLW. Not as high of secondary but I don't trade bottles, I drink them. Pappy 20 and 23 were not for me. Michters 10 year at the second table is an easy pick, and table three is an easy John J Bowman. Good haul regardless
I didn’t see a 23 so I went with the 20, but agreed. Dont believe the WLW was still there for my 4th pick. Only had one bottle of it. Happy for Brad! I debated the John J Bowman but I had just bought one on a previous bourbon hunt video and was like “nah… I’ll save some $$” haha cheers Andrew thanks for watching and commenting!
Would of been more fun if they didn't announce it until the store opened, then put the word out. Virginia ABC does that. They'll send out texts and emails saying..Hey, we just released a bunch of allocated, hurry to your store.
They do that across the river in Ohio and it’s always a sh!t$how. They usually lead it issues and arguments etc. this was actually really well organized and had no problems other than the registers didn’t work for the first 10 minutes. This limits the flippers too who are just camping out to sell for 10x the price. I had a blast, granted I was picked towards the top
I like how 400+ people were lined up before 4am. What a joke. I've been to Hy-Vee events where they say "no lining up before 9am" and you'll see people camping out overnight... and those are also raffles where you get a ticket and they call numbers. No need to be early.
Yeah… I couldn’t get over paying $2,815 for a single bottle in the life stage that I’m in… I thought about it, but just too rich for my blood. Definitely was a difficult decision. Thanks for watching Mike! Cheers brother 🥃
Over $3K with tax? Only if I already had a buyer! Especially in this economy 😂 I probably would have grabbed the same 2 bottles, although I would have thought about the Pappy 23yr (more of a flex!). Bottom line if you're flipping that shit anyway you're better off with a Pappy than on O.F.C. You would have to sell that O.F.C. for over $5K to make the same $$ as you would flippin the Pappy, and you're only in it for less than $300 instead of $3000!
@@whiskey_weather That could of been a huge trade or sale benefiting your end. Yes you're paying up now. But you def could get that money back and a lot more bottles than you walked out with.
@@B0H0 I’m happy with the Pappy 20 Year. I will drink it and enjoy it. I don’t have $3,000 to spend one a single bottle with my current situation. Not looking to flip things. Looking to drink them. Appreciate your opinion
Damnnn… that sucks man. I’m sorry. I think the last person in line still got a Stagg Jr. but I don’t blame you for leaving. Idk if I would have waited either. Fingers crossed for better luck the next time. Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris! Cheers man.
Gotta say, seems real dumb to drop that many bottles and limit to 1000 people. I'd rather they do smaller drops - that drop was insane. Must have collected the allocations from multiple, if not all, stores in the state for a few months. Absurd.
I am assuming they have a deal with Buffalo Trace in events like this. The Kroger headquarters is about 15-20 minutes north in Cincy and this was like the 3rd or 4th drop like this in NKY so far this year. This was the biggest one so far. They had a 750 wristband one in April
@@whiskey_weather what really got me excited about scotch (being a longtime bourbon fanboy) was Aberlour Abunah. Ardbeg Uigeadail is great too once you get used to peat. that said, i do still love bourbon, but im done with hunting, standing in lines, and the latest "limited" releases- not to mention overpriced hyped up 4-7yr garbo that is flooding the market these days.
The Store Manager told me about a month beforehand but there was also a sign in the front of the store the week prior which was the same one in this video. The Facebook group I am in also had intel on it and we chatted few a weeks about it

I like how 400+ people were lined up before 4am. What a joke. I've been to Hy-Vee events where they say "no lining up before 9am" and you'll see people camping out overnight... and those are also raffles where you get a ticket and they call numbers. No need to be early.
That’s what I was thinking too! The previous event a month ago was out of 750 wristbands in 30 minutes
I can’t believe you passed on the OFC. I know it’s pricey but you will never find it for that price anywhere.
Yeah… I couldn’t get over paying $2,815 for a single bottle in the life stage that I’m in… I thought about it, but just too rich for my blood. Definitely was a difficult decision. Thanks for watching Mike! Cheers brother 🥃
Tasting room charges $950 per ounce on ofc
Kroger in michigan doesn't have ANYTHING worth a ....lol 😉🥃👍
Hahaha 😂 have heard that about Michigan
That dude picked wlw over pappy 20 lol
😬😬😬 helped me out haha 🤣
Cheers, John!
I was 616 and left immediately once the 25th number was called.
Damnnn… that sucks man. I’m sorry. I think the last person in line still got a Stagg Jr. but I don’t blame you for leaving. Idk if I would have waited either. Fingers crossed for better luck the next time. Thanks for watching and commenting, Chris! Cheers man.
bottles I'll never run across. :/
That’s why I had to go, just for that chance! Hadn’t run across 90% of them before. Cheers! Thanks for watching!
Wow, so many people with no life. Hilarious!
Taterfest 2024
Great lineup for that festival too haha cheers Mystery
Got so fucked in that drop i was #561 😢
Awww damn! That blows! I’m sorry. Did you stick around?
@whiskey_weather no need to apologize man luck of the draw. And ya i did got a stagg which in my opinion wasn't worth being up 28 hours🤣
This kind of thing is why i mostly drink scotch now...
What’s your favorite scotch right now? I need to get more into scotch. Cheers 🥃
Bourbon Drops like this are disgusting. The corporate version of tater-ism.
🤣
Mind me asking what makes it “disgusting?”
@whiskey_weather how did you find out about it?
The Store Manager told me about a month beforehand but there was also a sign in the front of the store the week prior which was the same one in this video. The Facebook group I am in also had intel on it and we chatted few a weeks about it
Gotcha just wondered if it was put out anywhere. I'd make the ride from North Alabama for a line up like that!
I’m assuming it was in some Reddit groups too. I think they will be having another one in a few months. Cheers John!
Congrats! Great score!
Thanks Z! Cheers!
