I just replaced the rear shocks on my 96 S10 2WD and found an easier way: If you remove the spare tire, there's no need to jack up the vehicle. You will fit underneath. As I recall the bolts and nuts are 21mm tightened to 62 foot pounds and 13mm @ 22 foot pounds, as per the service manual. This was an easy job. I used Monroe OE Spectrum shocks, and surprisingly Home Depot had the lowest price.
I honestly focus on washing the underside of my car more than the top, because I do all my own work and a clean undercarriage is soooo nice when you do have to do anything.

How are these shocks working for you? I wanted to buy thse shocks for my blazer but saw some interesting reviews on it on amazon that were discouraging 😅
So I ordered the same for the fronts and those I didn’t bother installing. These work pretty well. I carried a Dana 80 dually in the back and she didn’t sag that much. But if you’re looking for a cheap good replacement. I got Gabriel heavy duty ones for the front. And all around on my 1990 f150 and those work very good and they run about 10$ a shock on rock auto.
@@stevensgarage7284 I also got the same exact combo of shocks front and back spring assist for my 89 ranger used for my daily and haul fire wood. They do great but if you are on dirt roads I suggest trying to fit a dust guard over the pistons if possible.
How come your vehicle doesn’t have a rear sway bar ? Is it a good thing to have it or not? the reason I ask cuz I bought the exact same shocks n on mine it has the sway bar n its interrupting the shocks to be put in. 🤷🏽
I just picked up a 96 s10 extended cab with 82k original miles and one owner. Getting a ladder rack built for it and wondering if replacing the rear shocks with some like these would help the payload some??
Definitely. I had to transport a Dana 80 twice and I noticed a huge difference. Originals it was bottoming out. With the new ones it barely went down. And my truck only had about 70k when I did them

I did Gabriel heavy duty on the fronts and ac delco for the rears. And honestly price wise I would do the Gabriel all around. It’s what I did on my 90 f150 and they worked great
You don't want that rear end up to much cause of the weight in the back being so light , it will nose dive when you hit your brakes causing a loss of traction resulting in a collision.

Bought the same shocks and put them on my 1993 Chevy S10. MAN!! They worked great, Well worth the $89 I spent for them on Rock Auto.

How stiff did those make the ride with an empty bed?
Hey man when you put the rear shocks in with these ac delco shocks, were there little gaps where the bolt is at?

Depends how heavy it is. I built a camper style thing in mine to be out in the woods for days and it worked great
