Hi Laura and Aaron...I had never heard of drip tubing irrigation until I started watching your garden videos. I am having a system installed this year that will cover all of my garden beds, a MUCH smaller area than yours. This will make gardening more enjoyable for me because to be honest, I did not have a lot of confidence that I could keep plants alive during our hot summer months in Omaha. THANK YOU for providing these great instructional videos! I will be adding many new trees, shrubs and flowers now that a water system is installed. Love you guys!! Meg Cotton

This was wonderful to see how you set them up and where to get the white tubing! I am so excited to help you with a suggestion! I keep a cigarette lighter gun in my drip tool box to warm the tubing ends to slip them onto the connectors, so easy, other wise impossible for my 66 year old hands. Also use the hair dryer to mold cold 1/2 lines around the corners when it's cold. Look forward to your videos every morning, gets me inspired to get out there and make something beautiful. Thank you!!!

Glad to know the tubing at Home Depot is harder. I have been installing the Home Depot drip tubing and my fingers were bruised/rawv from trying to add the little connectors. I heated some water in the microwave, poured hot water into a yeti tumbler to keep it hot, and carrier it around with me as I put the connectors on. I put end of the tubing in the hot water for about 30 seconds and then stuck the connectors in.

Love drip...soooo handy. So a lesson I learned with the small tubing is when I ran it too far that it couldn’t push enough water to the end of the tubing properly. Especially after adding emitters. So I had to use larger hose, like 1/2”, to get the pressure needed to get the water to the end and then run the smaller drip off of the 1/2”. Good luck!!

Yay! I love starting my day with a video from you two! A very informative video and also helpful to those looking at the “how to” forums that can be super overwhelming. You just jumping in there and giving it a shot is awesome advice because everyone has a different need or issue.
It’s a great idea to keep your irrigation lines as level as possible when running over long distances because it reduces the amount of pressure required to keep the water moving. You’ve mentioned in the past that you’re on a well instead of city water so your pressure is probably more consistent. The water pumps for many cities have “low use” hours where they don’t put as much pressure on the lines.
In my home, we’ll be running drip lines to the new garden beds and I’ve resigned to the fact that we will have to run the lines along the footing of the house. I’m thinking that a cable protector for the line at your back door may be a good idea so that line doesn’t get squashed!

Chantra Sek My hubby and I used to have knock down, drag out arguments that would make projects just keep going and going and going. 😱
Finally, we decided to set one person as the lead and one person as the helper. Because we both have experience in so many areas, it was better to have input but not that need to control the direction for the greater good of the project.
Some marriage counselors suggest avoiding major renovations until you’re further into your relationship. I disagree totally. Doing the big DIY projects together will teach you communication with your partner.....or if you’ll end up burying him under the tulips. ☺️🌷

Fantastic! What a great time/work saving decision you made to do this! I'm impressed! Honestly, I was genuinely concerned about both running the tubing up & down the walls AND using the 2 gal/min emitters. I was multiplying the number of emitters per window box by 2 and thinking about HOW MUCH water each box would be having to hold! I was sitting here saying, "Nooo! Too much, Laura! Too much!" Lol What a relief, when it wouldn't work! It's great to see you guys reduce the amount of that type of watering that has to be done. The day before, I planted up a new hanging basket. When I watered it, a bunch of water came pouring out. I thought to myself, maybe I was suppose to put a liner in it. Thank you so much for this video! I started my drip irrigation system for my pots last year. It was a little confusing. I am on a well system also and ran it from my spout off the house. I was confused when I was putting on the back flow preventer and the pressure regulator and the order they go on. I am going a long distance so I ran black one inch tube off the spout and then the 1/4" tube at different areas around the house. You have inspired me to finally get it finished. Great video. I've done quite a bit of drip irrigation in my yard and there is always an issue like the 2 gallon per hour vs. .5 gallon per hour stuff. The one problem I have consistently is that my lines always leak at the faucet to line connection. And actually makes some things a little easier to unscrew at the end of the season. Just an idea, this actually works really well for any threads where water is involved, especially if they don’t have a compression ring :)

I'm guessing that if you ran it up and down to the roof, the tubing wouldn't be able to work all the way at the end (too far for the drip tubing). When I am working with connecting up drip tubing I keep a heavy duty coffee mug full of boiling hot water nearby. I dip any of the tubing ends in the hot water for a few seconds before connecting. It softens the tubing just enough to help make the connection and prevent sore fingers. I love watching your videos and have learned so much in the past few years from you! I had never heard of drip tubing until I watched you install it on your patio a few years ago by the little maple tree. I Purchased the small kit from proven winners to get me started and then I have added a few pieces from the box store. Having my planters on drip system is the best thing ever! Well worth the investment for sure! And my flowers look so much nicer because they are getting regular watering as compared to me watering! 🌺☺️💐

Thanks so much for sharing this system. I too want to have a drip system and also on the ground using soaker hoses and a timer. Learning the technique from you takes the fear away of doing it DIY.
I promise you that your shrubs and plants will so completely steal the view that no one will notice the tiny hoses.

My answer would not be "Ugh, they have TUBING on their house..." it would be "OMG they have TUBING ON THEIR HOUSE!!! Lucky 🤣🤣" I think it will take me all year to set up drip lines!

I feel like you guys stress the noticeably too much. No one walks up on the house to admire your paneling. They’re looking at all your beautiful plants! Also I love seeing you guys work together, you are both so patient with each other. Such a great team. ❤️

Great video! I use a cup of hot water, it doesn't take long at all to soften the ends. I use the standard black 1/4" tubing so it is really difficult to connect unless I do that. So worth every time I hook up automatic watering. I have some areas that I have to water by hand and it can be an every day event in summer, so every place I can automate is just so much time saved!

Thanks to you guys and watching all your videos last summer, my husband and I have spent the last two weekends setting up 11 new containers on our deck / front porch with drip lines. Keep up the good work! No one teaches us these things growing up, but we have to learn it all somewhere.

I can relate to that day I have helped outside. When my husband helps me with a project it takes an hour or two. Most days I'm on my own and it takes all day. Have not ran any Plumbing to anything at this point. Interesting to watch the process. Husband to handyman but boy is he busy.

I am trying to get my rose bed hooked up to drip this year. Would love to see a video on different amounts for different plants like a estimate on emitter sizes for roses and other plants

I love your irrigation videos! It’s a priority project for us. We just got a Rachio smart system. That was only possible because our water utilities gave us a rebate for it.

So glad Aaron said to just run the tube straight around under the siding. That's what I was thinking when you were talking about going around each window. I love how Aaron is so willing to help you. I really want window boxes and already figured out how I would run the drip tubing, but my husband says NO WAY and says he will pull them down if I put them up. 😪 I am currently running drip tubing irrigation to the beds around my house, thanks to your inspiration and have been working on devising a way to run it to the hanging baskets by the house and patio. Thank you for all your inspirational and informative videos. Just love you guys. 💕💕💕

What a great video. When you first said you were going to go up and down with the tubing, I thought you better have bought a thousand feet. Like the way you ended up doing it. You won't even notice it once you are used to it. Other people won't even know to look for it. Going to set that up for my hanging pots and planters here. Thanks for all your teaching us. Loved the way you jumped right in there and crawled under the house. You are such a hard worker! Can't wait for the next one..

Thank you for another excellent and informative video. You and Aaron are such a joy to watch and the useful tips are a bonus. I especially appreciate that you show how projects don't always go to plan and how to troubleshoot and fix them. I have major garden envy, but you're inspiring me to make the best of my own little yard. I'm looking forward to seeing the chicks and of course cameos from Benjamin and the pets.
