We have a household of four, with three drivers. We keep two cars, pay insurance, store them, etc. The majority of the time, both cars are parked. One in my garage, the other at my wife's place of business or in our driveway. If I could count on a Robotaxi service that would allow me to summon a two-seater, a four-seat, or a pickup truck, I don't know that I'd bother to have my own car at all anymore. I could have a machine shop instead of a carhole.
What I find interesting is how narrow the car is compared to the Y behind it. This will hugely reduce weight and cost. Again, Tesla is showing its leadership in design based on first principles

Bright yellow it would almost advertise itself…..let’s face it your not going to hail this your going to order it off a app. Car ownership in a hundred years will be like horses a expensive hobby for the few, you’ll have people running classic Cars on synthetic fuel that is expensive buy acceptable because your paying for your hobby at the weekends and special events. Kids will look back and think really you struggled to pay car payments to keep a thing that sat for 80% of its life parked up depreciating 😂. Roads will be empty as Uber Cars will be like drones flying a few hundred feet above the ground out of town going from A to B.

I believe that’s a yellow shrink film not paint at all. There’s no bumper cover or hood. I think It’s just meant to coarsely resemble a car so it doesn’t look like a Hooptie that’s been crashed. The front of it looks like the actual structural bumper underneath the bumper cover.

@TheGaerthy the fleet will need to be very large to have excellent coverage and create a huge mote for others to overcome not just the technical challenge, but the critical mass and scale issue that is the limiting factor for Waymo. If Tesla has the Uber like network and app infrastructure, pretty much anyone can be owning the cars and Tesla can take a very profitable commission off every ride. I don't see the downside by Tesla allowing external capital to buy ans maintain a robotaxi fleet, including normal consumers cars to the extent they want to have their cars making some income when not in personal use...
Would be great if Tesla also sold thses as cheap tiny city cars. Maybe Model 2 or Model 1. I don't need a big car. I'd be more than happy to trade size to get a car with Tesla's excellent software for a cheaper price.
Tesla will make exponentially more profit from a robotaxi model. Imagine a product that makes you 300x what it cost to make. Rather than just the one time 5-10% profit margin you get just selling it to someone.

Years ago Tesla was very eager to work with Aptera on NACS adoption, then went cold and to my knowledge has not given them the tech to just roll into a supercharger. I thought "I wonder how Tesla is going to screw them over?" Looks like copying Aptera's design is how.
Given that on mean average people only use their cars 2% of a car's existence...you won't even pay 1/10th aka 10% for the Robotaxi service...but let's say 4% (since the Robotaxi has to get serviced (new tires every now and then...).

Waymo can't make a profit and it's not because of the cost of their cars, it's still just public transportation and people use cars for all kinds of things other than point to point rides. The public transportation market is already known and to pretend it's going to get huge just because there are cars with no driver is just silly. Any savings from getting rid of the driver will seem small compared to the costs of operating a fleet of robotaxies and that's before the lawsuits start to take any profit you might make.
1/10th the cost sounds very aggressive. Remember Uber driver pays for insurance, upkeep, maintenance, consumables. 30% of the Uber rate. I think the more FSD on the road the less traffic and the much more efficient traffic. All the cars become assimilated into the Borg.

Tesla’s Robotaxi/CyberCab probably won’t be on US & Canada roads, outside of small scale pilot locations, until 2027. Robotaxi vehicles likely won’t roll out until unsupervised full self driving and autonomous ride hail services are refined in existing S3XY & Cybertruck and new 2025 model vehicles.
Disappointing if that's the Robotaxi, not sure if it meets the European Wheelchair Accessibility Regulations for new taxi's?
