    00:34 - WTF, Sam?!
Taxis are often painted yellow for visibility. The tradition of yellow taxis dates back to 1907 in New York City, when entrepreneur Harry N. Allen started the first yellow taxi company. He chose yellow after a study from the University of Chicago suggested that yellow was the easiest color to spot from a distance, even in a crowded city. This made it easier for passengers to identify and hail a cab quickly. The practice became popular and spread to other cities around the world.

Brilliant, Its a Tesla Transformer...... The Wireless Charging Pad Patent is key to this as it removes another big issue as it can charge itself. For the Demo the guests I'm sure will get picked up and dropped off. The 1/10th the cost is the fatal flaw as Governments and local Councils can just tax and enforce "Taxi Drivers" being available But its a glimpse of the Future of Transport. Your right Sam its no longer about "car making" the future is now clearly defined by Energy Cost, the Cost of Compute and the capability of the Software.

We have a household of four, with three drivers. We keep two cars, pay insurance, store them, etc.
The majority of the time, both cars are parked. One in my garage, the other at my wife's place of business or in our driveway.
If I could count on a Robotaxi service that would allow me to summon a two-seater, a four-seat, or a pickup truck, I don't know that I'd bother to have my own car at all anymore. I could have a machine shop instead of a carhole.

Kids will look back and think really you struggled to pay car payments to keep a thing that sat for 80% of its life parked up depreciating 😂. @TheGaerthy the fleet will need to be very large to have excellent coverage and create a huge mote for others to overcome not just the technical challenge, but the critical mass and scale issue that is the limiting factor for Waymo. If Tesla has the Uber like network and app infrastructure, pretty much anyone can be owning the cars and Tesla can take a very profitable commission off every ride. I don't see the downside by Tesla allowing external capital to buy ans maintain a robotaxi fleet, including normal consumers cars to the extent they want to have their cars making some income when not in personal use...

The Tesla Robotaxi will be arriving just as folks have figured out that the point to point ride market is not as big as expected. Waymo can't make a profit and it's not because of the cost of their cars, it's still just public transportation and people use cars for all kinds of things other than point to point rides. For example if you need to go shopping at more than one store how do you do that when you don't have your own car to put the stuff in while you shop at the second or third store? The public transportation market is already known and to pretend it's going to get huge just because there are cars with no driver is just silly. Any savings from getting rid of the driver will seem small compared to the costs of operating a fleet of robotaxies and that's before the lawsuits start to take any profit you might make.

  • @mangravy2000

1/10th the cost sounds very aggressive. Remember Uber driver pays for insurance, upkeep, maintenance, consumables. 30% of the Uber rate. I think the more FSD on the road the less traffic and the much more efficient traffic. All the cars become assimilated into the Borg.

It is faster, and cheaper to walk, use a city bike or ride a bus, or subway than to use a car. As the population grows the taxis, and private cars will become a thing of the past. Tesla tried that back in 2016/2017. They ran a battery swap pilot program. It wasn’t successful. They are instead possibly working on a wireless charging solution that could be unveiled soon at the robotaxi event.

@@FlipBoxStudio no they did not tried. That was just a small demo without real effort to get that work. at that time there was no any real support for it - just few demo cars and Tesla EV's supercharging was free of cost.

Especially when he said Robotaxis and FSD were coming next year, every year since 2016. He totally means it this time. It's magically going to skip 3 autonomy levels in a couple of weeks after being stuck on level 2 for nearly a decade."

The company said it already signed agreements with 11 cities in the European Union, UK and Middle East, and that it is negotiating with more than 30 cities worldwide that want to become partners.

Tesla’s Robotaxi/CyberCab probably won’t be on US & Canada roads, outside of small scale pilot locations, until 2027. Robotaxi vehicles likely won’t roll out until unsupervised full self driving and autonomous ride hail services are refined in existing S3XY & Cybertruck and new 2025 model vehicles.
