Thank you. No one else would answer my question about the dust because they wanted to continue to get free stuff from the company’s. Thank you for being honest

You are still the undisputed King of Understatement. Love your type of humor. I also love the projects you take on. My father in law and I used to do fun projects like these, and we had a blast frankensteining up a fun vehicle to tool around the ranch in. I sute miss those days, and I sure miss him.

I saw Derek using the shine oil some time ago and thought I would try it on my old garden tractor. I never got around to doing it and then I saw you putting on the Jeep P/U and it looked great. Then I see this video and I won't be trying it on anything now. It would probably help with stopping some rust, but the dust gets real bad here sometimes. Thanks for the update and keep on having fun I'll be watching.

The dust forms a protective patina that acts as a barrier to protect against things like gravels and boulders, so I think you did it right in the first place...

I use my own mix of "shine juice" for vintage bikes here in Georgia and I've found that if I need to keep anything I've coated to have a hard and glossy sheen that repels dust I use 3-4 coats and let it cure in the garage for a couple weeks.

I wondered too, after watching VGG do it, I had always thought of doing the same to my '77 J10 with similar patina but knew it might just make a mess. Our area has heavy winds that blow fine grey glacial dust (pretty similar to the desert dust) around for hundreds of km!

Glad I got to share results before you tried it! I was pretty happy with the way the scouring pad cleaned up the surface, though. If I had stopped there and did not apply the juice it probably would have worked out fine.

Hay all, Derek recently came out with his own developed and redesigned shine juice from some manufacture and its way improved, check it out in one of his new video's. It dries fully with no stickiness. But hey, if you have no other option and you need it rite now it will fill the bill. I love watching this guy, he knows every hack and trick to get the job done. I always learn something.

I'm thinking the Shine Juice is probably best used back East - but maybe here it would collect leaves. It does look slick, but the linseed oil kinda raised a red flag for me - that was my dad's cure for everything, including rust - I remember it being sticky. I'll bet it does wonders (temporarily) for the dreaded white clearcoat that used to be so prevalent. Maybe the Shine Juice is a secret formula used by used car lots that has final gone public.

I have heard that modern 'boiled' linseed oil is chemically different than traditionally boiled linseed oil and doesn't harden fully or in the same span of time. This appears to be a side effect of this difference.

Could always lightly sand that off and hit it with some clear coat. Once it dries it’s at least not sticky. Problem with Boiled linseed oil is how long it takes to harden. Yeah dry to the touch in 12 hours or whatever but still tacky for weeks. Great for wood stocks though if you’ll keep them inside until they’re cured.

  • @ronjones1077

Wax and grease remover is what is needed to remove all of that oily concoction. Painters use it with two rags, one on rash had so you wipe the wet rag with the remover solvent, and dry with the other. On really bad contamination it may need more than one application. If the contamination is not removed you will get fish eyes in your new paint and also poor adhesion.
Never use oily products on paint. The dirt that sticks becomes sand paper and will remove a finish
