Join me for a tour in East London Cemetery = where we visit the last resting places of people who were "famous - infamous - heroes - interesting"
Everyone from = A Jack The Ripper Victim - A Whole Family wiped out in a fire - WW1 Spies Shot At The Tower - An American Civil War "Medal of Honor Recipient" - WW2 Heroes = To a much loved & famous East End Actress.
Then we end the video = by watching /seeing /reading about "the people /events of who's graves or memorials, we visited in the earlier part of the video"
This may just be (part 1) of more to follow. If people find this interesting? Like nearly every cemetery or churchyard "there are some very interesting & or famous /infamous people" buried in East London Cemetery.

It's beyond me why people would vandalise the graves.

100% agree with you on that!! But, that's what makes people like us, VERY different from people like that!! Stealing things off of graves seems to be the trending one at the moment 😡 = we've had two of those brass topped flower pots stolen off of my Grandparents grave + things stolen off of my nephew's cremation plot & "he died a baby" = which is clearly apparent from the inscription on his stone + the toys & Crystal Teddy bear "which is what they took" 😡. Subhuman's ay!!.. ✌️

Absolutely loved that Luke thanks so much for all the hard work and effort. My Mum is from the East End and was evacuated to Bletchley Bucks when their home was bombed in WW2. Good old working class people the men worked on the Docks. We emigrated to Australia in the 1970's and I miss my homeland to this day so content like yours is VERY important to me and gives me a greater understanding of my background. I have shared this with Mum now 88 and the last member alive of her large family - this will be very important to her too. If you ever come across any Sheaf's in the graveyard then that's us lot! Bless her "some loved evacuation = & sadly for others, that wasn't the case." Yeah, they were a tough generation, those old Eastenders "really admire that generation tbh = especially the ones who got us through both world wars" A lot of people emigrated there in the 70s = tbh, I think it was a wise decision "as London is pretty chappy nowadays, especially in the East End & East London." But, its home & there are good people around still. Bless you both "glad you enjoyed the video." 88, she'll have accumulated some great memories then 😊. I'll note down the name "in case I spot any, for you" as I'm doing a few cemetery tours at the moment, so 🤞. Hi Luke, I've just stumbled across this vlog and had to watch it.
I was brought up pretty much opposite East London cemetery, in fact, my dad's ashes are interred there.
As a kid in the late 50's and throughout the 60's my mates and I used to play in the cemetery, as bad as that sounds. The part that backs onto The Memorial Grounds (incidentally West Ham United's former ground prior to Upton Park) was all overgrown and jungle-like, so we had a great time playing there.
Happy memories of a bygone era.

The actual place of burial for Elizabeth Stride is not known. When she was buried in 1888, the grave was unmarked! after consulting burial records, the actual site is NEAR the present gravestone, but not actually there.

Hi Craig. Ah rite, thanks for this info mate! Much appreciated. I was talking to someone who used to work at the cemetery, recently & he said "when the area was reused for new burials in the 60s = tons & tons of earth were laid over the area." So the original graves, are very very deep down! It's hell on earth trying to walk around on that bit "it's all starting to sink & collapse = so will need work soon, I should think." Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps ? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea !"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."

As regards Elizabeth Stride, a recent investigative documentary researched the victims of Jack the Ripper, and discovered his victims were not prostitutes, but were portrayed as such by the media in their drive to make the case notorious to gain increased readership. I think the map of the bomb site is wrong. Gainsborough Road school is a ten minute walk from the cemetery you show an area much further east around four miles away and in a completely different borough. I should know I went to Gainsborough infants and junior school in the sixties and lived in adjacent Godbold Road for many years. Many of the fallen firefighters have local roads named after them Tarling Road and Turley Close to name but two. Walter Turley was killed on September seventh 1940 during the first bombing raid of the blitz.

Hi Pittsy. Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed!! Bradley features in one of my other videos, ftom around the same time as this! I waited until I got permission from his Mum, to feature the grave "he being more recent than I usually feature, in the cemetery tours." The gym was covered too. Yes, a great talent = sadly taken, way too young 🕊✌️

My family have been buried there since 1878. In one area. There is a cluster of graves containing my great grandfather, great grandmother, grandmother, grandfather and father.

@@londonluke6487 you may find this utterly boring, but around fifteen years or so ago, I was visiting for a clean up and my great grand parents headstones - Harriet and Charles (Charlie) Pigeon - had sagged between the graves and their head stones had leaned in and were touching. I found it very poignant and it choked me up… Sadly the corporation straightened them up a few years afterwards…..

My friend, those of us with widescreen TVs would appreciate it if you and others would make these by holding the camera horizontally and not vertically. Watching a little sliver in the middle of the screen is very frustrating.

Hi Walter. This was filmed when I first began the page. I never film in portrait for RUclips nowadays! Better tech + a learning curve, as things went along. I will be redoing this one, soonish = & will film it in landscape "so will be much more suitable for the wide-screen." Duscivered my error myself, when watching the videos on the TV "once my Nephew had shown me how to do that." & yes, portrait just doesn't work for RUclips, does it!! We live & learn, as the old saying goes. Thanks for the feedback 👍✌️
